I came into the world in October 1957 in Monterey, California, and I spent my early years traveling between the United States and Europe until I was twelve as my dad was in the military. After his retirement in 1968, we moved to St. Nazaire, France, where my parents connected after World War II in the early 1950s. My brother, two sisters, and I learned to embrace our new life in France. We attended French schools as teenagers and remained there until we graduated high school. Not long after, my parents divorced, and my father moved back to Arkansas, where he was raised. We lived in France for a few more years until my mother married again and moved to Palm Harbor, Florida, in the fall of 1977. I reached Florida at the age of 19, excited to embark on a new journey.

I held various construction jobs for two years until a neighbor hired me to help with roofing. In 1983, I passed the state licensing exam for roofing contractors and became the qualifier.
