I was born in Monterey, California, in October 1957, and I spent my early years traveling between the United States and Europe until I was twelve as my dad was in the military. When he retired in 1968, we settled in St. Nazaire, France, where my parents connected after World War II in the early 1950s. My siblings and I had to adapt to our new French lifestyle. We went to French schools as young teens and continued until we graduated from high school. Not long after, my parents divorced, and my father moved back to Arkansas, where he was raised. We lived in France for a few more years until my mother married again and moved to Palm Harbor, Florida, in the fall of 1977. I reached Florida at the age of 19, excited to embark on a new journey.

For two years, I worked in different construction roles until a neighbor brought me on to assist with roofing. In 1983, I passed the state licensing exam for roofing contractors and became the qualifier.
