I came into the world in October 1957 in Monterey, California, and I spent my early years traveling between the United States and Europe until I was twelve as my father served in the armed forces. After his retirement in 1968, we moved to St. Nazaire, France, where my parents connected after World War II in the early 1950s. My siblings and I adjusted to life in France. We were enrolled in French schools as teenagers and stayed until we completed high school. Not long after, my parents divorced, and my father moved back to Arkansas, where he was raised. We stayed in France for a few more years until my mother remarried and relocated to Palm Harbor, Florida, in the fall of 1977. I reached Florida at the age of 19, excited to embark on a new journey.

For two years, I worked in different construction roles until a neighbor brought me on to assist with roofing. In 1983, I passed the state licensing exam for roofing contractors and became the qualifier.
