In 1942, after obtaining his Contractor's License, Ernest welcomed his brothers to partner with him in the business; Alyce, his wife, served as the Bookkeeper. This new partnership was named State Roofing and Insulation Company, also known as Ace Roofing Company. The Montoya brothers enjoyed a productive and harmonious working relationship. Only time would eventually lead them apart. In the years of war, Ernest and his brothers, with their families, moved throughout California and Arizona. They contributed to the construction and roofing of army barracks for the government.

The earthquake in 1952 caused significant destruction in Bakersfield and the surrounding regions, while Tehachapi, located to the east, was almost completely destroyed. The Montoya brothers were vital in the reconstruction efforts in Bakersfield and surrounding towns.

When he turned 56, and his brothers had retired, Ernest realized he had too much time on his hands. He felt he was too young to retire and too eager to give up. Thus, he and Alyce applied for a Small Business Loan. On May 1, In 1942, following the acquisition of his Contractor's License, Ernest Montoya, Sr. welcomed his brothers into the business alongside his wife Alyce, now recognized as BSW Roofing & Solar.

Sons Ernie Jr. and Rick Montoya both studied Business Administration. These two individuals have brought stability and their own insights to the company. Now managing their family’s company, they have taken it in fresh and dynamic directions. Today, the company boasts a workforce of over 60 individuals.
