In 1942, after obtaining his Contractor's License, Ernest welcomed his brothers to partner with him in the business; Alyce, by his side, managed the bookkeeping. The partnership became known as State Roofing and Insulation Company, or Ace Roofing Company. The Montoya brothers enjoyed a productive and harmonious working relationship. Time was the only factor that could divide them. During the war years, Ernest, his brothers, and their families traveled across California and Arizona. They played a key role in building and roofing military barracks for the government.

The earthquake in 1952 caused significant destruction in Bakersfield and the surrounding regions, while Tehachapi, located to the east, was almost completely destroyed. The Montoya brothers were vital in the reconstruction efforts in Bakersfield and surrounding towns.

At 56, with his brothers retired from the business, Ernest found himself with an abundance of free time. He felt he was too young to retire and too eager to give up. So, he and Alyce sought a Small Business Loan. On May 1, In 1942, after earning his Contractor's License, Ernest Montoya, Sr. welcomed his brothers into the business alongside his wife Alyce, now recognized as BSW Roofing & Solar.

The sons, Ernie Jr. and Rick Montoya, majored in Business Administration. They have infused the company with continuity and their unique perspectives. At the helm of the family business, they have steered the company toward new and exciting paths. Today, the company boasts a workforce of over 60 individuals.
