Only time could separate them. Throughout the war years, Ernest and his brothers, along with their families, journeyed through California and Arizona. They contributed to the construction and roofing of army barracks for the government.

In 1952, an earthquake devastated Bakersfield and nearby areas, but Tehachapi, our neighbor to the east, faced near-total destruction. Ernest and his brothers were instrumental in restoring Bakersfield and nearby communities.

When he turned 56, and his brothers had retired, Ernest discovered he had more time than he knew what to do with. He was too young to retire and too driven to stop. Thus, he and Alyce applied for a Small Business Loan. On May 1, In 1942, following the acquisition of his Contractor's License, Ernest Montoya, Sr. brought his brothers into the business with his wife Alyce, which is now BSW Roofing & Solar.

Sons Ernie Jr. and Rick Montoya both studied Business Administration. These two individuals have brought stability and their own insights to the company. Now managing their family’s company, they have taken it in fresh and dynamic directions. Today, they employ over 60 staff members.
