After receiving his Contractor's License in 1942, Ernest brought his brothers into the business; Alyce, his wife, served as the Bookkeeper. The partnership became known as State Roofing and Insulation Company, or Ace Roofing Company. The Montoya brothers enjoyed a productive and harmonious working relationship. Only time would eventually lead them apart. In the years of war, Ernest and his brothers, with their families, moved throughout California and Arizona. They played a key role in building and roofing military barracks for the government.

The earthquake in 1952 caused significant destruction in Bakersfield and the surrounding regions, but Tehachapi, our neighbor to the east, faced near-total destruction. Ernest and his brothers played a crucial role in the rebuilding of Bakersfield and its neighboring communities.

When he turned 56, and his brothers had retired, Ernest discovered he had more time than he knew what to do with. He was too young to retire and too driven to stop. Consequently, he and Alyce pursued a Small Business Loan. On May 1, After obtaining his Contractor's License in 1942, Ernest Montoya, Sr. invited his brothers to join him in business with his wife Alyce, which today is known as BSW Roofing & Solar.

Sons Ernie Jr. and Rick Montoya both studied Business Administration. These two have contributed their own wisdom and stability to the business. At the helm of the family business, they have steered the company toward new and exciting paths. Currently, they have a team of more than 60 employees.
