The Seal-Tite Roofing Company was founded by Jimmy Cosenza Sr. in 1946. He relocated the business to San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley in 1952, into the same building where Nicholas Roofing operates today.

At the age of 17, Jimmy Cosenza Jr. took on part-time work at his father's Seal-Tite Roofing Company. He graduated high school and then joined the United States Army for three years. He came back to roofing while pursuing his education at San Francisco State University. In 1976, he married Susan Love, who graduated from UC Berkeley. They started a family, and Jimmy embarked on a full-time roofing career.

In 1981, he established Nicholas Roofing, sharing the same Berkeley location as his father's Seal-Tite Roofing Company. He named the company Nicholas in honor of his three-year-old son. With Seal-Tite Roofing closing its doors and Jimmy Sr.'s passing, Nicholas Roofing stands as the only roofing company on San Pablo Avenue.
