My only mistake was trying a competitor for a gutter repair and it turned into threats and sherriff involvement. I wont mention their name here but if you ""care"" wink, wink, enuf you can find my review of them if their owners haven't gotten Yelp to remove it once again.

Evan Winter and his crew just put a new roof on my cabin, and I was thrilled with both their work and my interactions with Evan before the job was completed. When I was in the very early stages of renovating a homesteader cabin that was falling to pieces, Evan provided me both with excellent advice and with all of the roofing specifications I needed to include in my building plans. When I was finally finished with structural rehab and ready to have roof covering installed, Evan made it happen for the price he quoted over the phone months earlier (a great price, I might add) and within a timeline that worked perfectly for me. It was a simple job, and his crew was in and out the same day. Highly recommended if you need roofing work in the hi-desert.

We purhased a home in Yucca Valley 9 months ago that needed some work. There's been plenty to do but we're getting there. The roof was the one thing we didn't think to worry about because it was so new. But rain ended up in the home last month. Depressing. We thought the problem had been fixed when we hired a local handyman who had some experience repairing roofs. The following month, March 15th to be exact, it would rain again during the night and more water in the house! This time we wanted a professional. We were given the name of Evan Winter by our realtor. I wish we would have called her the first time! Here's a guy, Evan Winter, who after telling me on the phone that he was very busy this week, showed up in the afternoon the same day I called him, and showed us exactly how, why and where the water had gotten in, and then told us that he would be back in the morning to fix it. We crossed our fingers, but no need. By lunch time the following day Evan had completely repaired the faulty area and showed us exactly what he had done. What did he want in return? He told us he works by referral and that would be the best thing we could do for him. He would accept nothing for the job he did, save for our invitation to join us for lunch. Very professional, and a great guy. We feel blessed!

Evan Winter and his crew just finished our roof, and they did a truly great job. A few things really stood out to me.

1. We had 5 roofers out for quotes. Winter Roofing, Evan and his assistant, were the only ones to figure out that our roof had three layers on it! The other 4 roofing companies all thought there was just one layer, and even recommended just roofing over our existing roof. That would have been a big mistake. The roofing material, once removed, turned out to weigh 8 tons.

The other layers were well hidden, it's not that everyone else was incompetent. They just weren't very thorough and didn't pull up the shingles to doublecheck the layers, like Evan and his assistant did. Thankfully.

2. Even with the realization that there were three roofs, Evan's quote for our 1300 sq ft home and 2 car detached garage turned out very reasonable. One of the other roofing companies that came out had given us a quote for much higher, with the assumption of only removing a single layer.

Evan's detailed quote for us included some of our special stipulations, like a ridge vent where one could be installed, and replacing all damaged plywood and any OSB found with fresh plywood. He worked with us and gave us lots of options, too. His quote was very thoroughly written and he made sure we understood it.

3. He's the tidiest roofer I've ever run into. I have seen a lot of roofing jobs - and I've had more than my share of flat tires from visiting job sites. Evan's crew cleaned up every day, used a good system of tarps, and also a really big dump trailer to keep everything as tidy as possible. Even pulling three layers of roof off.

4. His crew were nice, respectful, and I didn't hear any swearing. Not that it's an issue, but it did make for a more pleasant job. We work from home, and were home the whole time. Roofing is already a very noisy, somewhat intrusive process - it's nice when you feel comfortable around the crew.

My husband and I would definitely use Winter Roofing again.
