I have had the solar panels for about 4 months now. So far our utility bill,
which was about $600 a month, is almost 0. We installed 34 solar panels
and have two 5 ton seer-16 heat pumps and an induction electric cooktop. We just pay for natural gas for our water heaters and the small connect fee from PGE.

They seem like an honest company - I just recommended them to a neighbor
and Volt Modern told them their house was not suitable for solar - instead
of trying to sell them something.

The installation crew knew what they were doing, instead of being a bunch
of beginners. You might find a lower bid from another company but a lot of
these contractors are nothing but trouble.

The Enphase monitoring program is quite useful to keep track of what's
going on. On very cloudy days we are only producing about 20% of normal.
But 80-90% of the days we are close to full production. This depends
upon the time of year of course.

Its nice to heat and air condition the house for free - otherwise my wife
would have us roasting or freezing - now she doesn't care.

We have a concrete tile roof and no leaks have occurred after installation.

So we are hoping to be paid back for the solar in 4 to 5 years - and the rest is
just free. Granite Bay has very expensive power.

One note is that they should leave instructions on how to turn on/off the
solar power since a few breakers have to be used.

Last year my wife and I decided to put Solar Panels on our house. I looked at several major players. SunPower and Sunrun and decided to go with SunPower. We decided to go with SunPower and are happy with our choice. My neighbor had Solar put on their home about a year earlier and recommended Volt Modern. I did some research and found that Volt Modern has both a Solar and a Roofers License! From the moment I began working with Buck and the Volt Modern Team I was very impressed. I got all of the information I needed on how many panels I would need and the cost for the entire project. I was also informed on the NEM Plan I would be in and how PG&E would be interfacing. I was told about the Federal Tax Rebate and how that would work with the Lender I was put me in touch. Most impressive was the day of installation. It was like watching a well tuned factory with staff working on all facets of the installation at once. The entire installation was completed by 3 PM. Additionally I asked Buck to look over my roof as I had some concerns. He was able to take care of a few minor issues while on site for a reasonable cost! A few weeks later the local city inspector came out and approved the installation. We are coming up to our True Up period with PGE and it looks like the system is evenly balanced and we will either not owe any additional $$ or have a credit! I highly recommend Buck and Volt Modern! I am extremely pleased with Volt Modern Roofing! I have a home in South Lake Tahoe, CA., I called local roofing companies in my area without any success, no one was interested in replacing my roof, I was becoming extremely frustrated because I wanted and needed to replace my roof. I started looking on line for roofing companies and I found Volt Modern Roofing.
After reading reviews I telephoned Volt Modern Roofing and I spoke with Buck, he was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. I knew then that I had found the correct company to do my roof! Buck came and looked at my roof, advised me what type of metal roof I needed (I was wanting a metal roof).
Buck is very dependable, he came when he said he was going to, his roofing crew came when scheduled and worked very hard. They kept my yard very clean, they cleaned up every evening when they were done, you would not have known that roofers where there all day.
If anyone is in need of a new roof I highly recommend Volt Modern Roofing and Solar, you will not be disappointed, I wasn't I was so happy with the end result. I would use them again

I think Volt Modern is a good company that does good work. I went through a full solar install with them, and while there were some hiccups, I felt the communication and service were well above average.

The reason I'm leaving 4-stars instead of 5 is because their salesman was not completely honest and transparent, or not well informed, about major topics that were used to push the sale. The first was the solar incentives via the net metering program. The second was the solar tax credit. I corrected his information about net metering while we were still closing the sale. I didn't find out about the tax credit info until I filed my taxes recently - though I still contacted him to make sure he was aware of how it actually worked in hopes that he wouldn't mislead future customers. I do take responsibility for not looking deeper into how the tax credit is actually applied, but I shouldn't have been given ambiguous info to begin with.

In my case, none of the misleading was even necessary - I was basically a guaranteed sale and I said as much from the beginning. I would have done the install regardless of the true status of the net metering program at the time, and regardless of how the financing worked in conjunction with the tax credit. But I do take issue with bad information being given to people who often won't have the time or resources to fully understand and vet that info. I respect that sales people have to sell, but especially in a family-owned business like this, there should be a higher standard for how that takes place.

I do want to give my thanks and appreciation to the install team, who worked hard and went above and beyond with me. I also appreciate that I was able to speak directly with the owner on multiple occasions when clearing up issues (mostly related to SunPower directly, not Volt Modern or their work). I would still highly recommend Volt Modern as a company, and I feel that whatever the job is, they will get it done correctly.

UPDATE: They've earned the 5th star - owner personally called and addressed all issues. You just don't find this kind of service and care from other businesses. Thanks, Volt Modern, for setting the bar all other businesses should aspire to.

Volt Modern did an outstanding job installing my SunPower solar system. Buck Wilcox (CEO) was very responsive to my questions and accommodated my needs without high-pressure sales tactics. All aspects of the project went smoothly and were professionally managed (e.g., scheduling, permits and documentation, solar panel installation and interconnect, SMUD approval and final commissioning). The Volt Modern team far exceeded my expectations for their proficiency, workmanship and customer service. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in solar.

The level of service Volt Modern provided exceeded my expectations. From working with Pat on a design that worked for our home to the install. The install team was very professional and transparent. Jared and Shawn were great. This company will not oversell you something. They won't do a solar job unless it makes sense for you financially long-term.I also want to mention these guys are roofers at heart and actually took time to fix some minor issues we had while they were installing the panels. Requested a solar electric quote from Volt. We have a stone coated metal roof and other solar firms dont want to touch it. Volt was rsponsive and happy to do the job because they are also a roofing company. They know how to work on a metal roof and did not have any issue with it. Their bid was good, and the equipment they use is reputable.

They stepped into a solar project that was abandoned by a fly by night solar company and went well above and beyond...thank you Buck Wilcox for your professionalism and leadership.

VM reviewed the initial plans, came up with a fixed-price estimate, then worked hard to deliver exactly what was promised!

I have a 21kwh /yr system that is now connected to PGE and working to get our house green.

1. During implementation - they had to drive several times from Sacramento to Bay Area to complete the job without any complaints

2. They worked with me while inspector was on the ground - step by step to clear tough inspections

3. They walked me through the tedious PGE interconnection agreement!

4. They helped me get online with my inverter company (Solar Edge) so I can track the health and production of my system..

I'd recommend Buck and his team to anyone!

We live in ""fire country"" and have a metal roof in place. As our power goes out all of the time we decided to install solar panels. Volt modern did a fantastic job. They were professional, timely, and communicated extremely well with pictures on a daily basis. Everything was left, clean and tidy. They were so great that we had them come out and install another metal roof on our ADU! They have been responsive to any needs we have had. We couldn't be happier with their service. I highly recommend them.
