My husband and I are seniors, my husband in his eighties. We have been so stressed out from this roofing project ever since May 2021 when they replaced our roof, that every time we think about it, we feel sick in our stomach and try not to think about it. We had to borrow $45,000.00 from our Home Equity to pay them and are still unable to pay the principal but only the interest which is going higher and higher.
They gave us a pricing quote and we signed the contract accepting their price which was $18,840.00. Immediately after they started the demo two people came which we could not get ID for or ever see their inspection report which we asked for and NEVER EVER received it, and according to Reliable Roofing they provided an inspection report that said our underlay woods had to be replaced, so two guys knocked on our door and said they had a very bad news for us, our hearts sunk and asked what was the bad news they started beating around the bush and finally said the price they gave us was wrong because the underlay woods had ALL to be replaced and the new price was going to be $44,115!! We could not believe our ears. At the time both me and my spouse were under medical treatments and not in good health physically and mentally and not up to the challenge, and having our roof all open and exposed we did not know what to do, so we signed the new price to have our roof closed up and finished. With that money they did not even finish the facing around the garage roof which needed to be replaced and I begged for! Since then we have had this terrible feeling which has been confirmed by at least 10 homeoweners in our neighborhood where we posted our terrible experience with Reliable Roofing and they told us we had one pulled over our head and that NOBODY in our neighborhood with same square footage was EVER CHARGED over 17,000 or 18,000 for their roofs, certainly not $44,115!. I have all those posts to show a judge. My next door neighbor was charged $10,000.00 They did take down a few pieces of wood from our roof , not the entire roof inlay which they had claimed. We never saw an inspection report/permit from the City that rejected our roof warranting that kind of price and we'll let a judge examine that. We intend to file a complaint as well with the Contractor's License Board and get the help of an attorney as well. I called the salesperson who had us sign the contract he said he is not working there anymore.
Beware!!! If I could give zero or negative stars I would. Seriously the worst experience with a company over the last 40plus years of home ownership. Workers came unprepared and without a proper ladder, then they were very careless and did lots of damage to the exterior of our house. Over 100 nail tips came through the ceiling of our balcony. There was little follow through from 4 different projects managers. No contact from anyone higher up in the company when we expressed our concerns. Had to hire our own people to paint the flashing and repair the damage they did to the facia boards. Two weeks of work took 7 weeks. Again BEWARE!!!
This was a terrible experience and do not do business with them. Today a guy showed up at our house to fix a roof after several times of the business not showing up on time or communicating that they were going to not show up. The man who shows up is named Richard (who would not provide his last name) and finally fixed one of the issues after letting himself onto our property without calling or announcing himself. When my wife asked him about some other areas of the roof he proceeded to claim he remembered telling us that we needed to get it fixed. We got our roof done over 6 years ago! He then became rude and belligerent and refused to answer our questions b/c his memory is better than the written contract we have from the company. We then asked him for his information and he refused to provide it and told us to call our lawyer. We attempted to call the office while he was on site but he drove off. He had no paperwork or documentation from the company and didn't provide any documentation of services rendered.
The office has called more than once to apologize today and claims it will be taken care of. We also have a video of his behavior as well and he consented to be recorded on camera, which was done for our own safety.
Run away from this company and do not expect any service.
Michael N.This company scheduled a consultation with me. Told me they would call to confirm. Everything was good to go an hour before the appointment on the day of scheduling.
After I scheduled around work and changed around several appointments to make this roofing appointment. They called me to let me know they couldn't make it because they had a flat tire.
Absolutely unprofessional. I will find another roof company. This is ridiculous.
We asked them to come out for an estimate to replace approximately 1100 square feet of roofing. We signed the contract at the beginning of June. The following week, they sent their crew out to remove three of our solar panels. When they did this, they said we had to have the entire system shut down. Initially they told me it would be about a week before they finished. The work did not even begin until July. Our solar was off the entire month. I will say they did provide us with $750.00 to cover the cost of electricity while the solar was down.
I was told by the company that the reason it was taking so long is that the building and permit office in Murrieta was about 4-weeks behind. While this wasn't false, after the building and permit office found the paperwork, they told me that the company did not fill out the paperwork correctly. I immediately called Reliable Roofing and told them this. Their response was, ""It is impossible to fill out the paperwork incorrectly."" I told them that is what the city said. A couple of more weeks go by, and I called the city. They told me that they contacted the company to explain that the paperwork was not filled out completely and they were waiting for them to resubmit the paperwork.
Once the work finally started in July, it was an instant disaster. I have two dogs that are in the backyard at certain points during the day. My daughter and I went out back and picked up over 50 roofing nails. They left trash everywhere. I had to contact the company twice about this. I found roofing nails in my driveway, where my wife and I had to park at night because the solar panels were in the garage. I was told that they use a magnet to pick up the nails. Obviously they didn't do this. Once they got the roofing material off, it had to be inspected. The city inspector said everything looked good. Reliable roofing came back and said, we really need to replace the plywood because their are gaps that are over 1/8 inch. After researching this, I realized they were right. However, when they replaced the plywood, it had gaps that were bigger in certain areas. When I brought this to their attention, they didn't seem to want to acknowledge this. All they told me was they would make sure no nails went in that area so it wouldn't leak. Why couldn't they do this with the plywood that was currently on the roof.
I got stuck with a bill that was as much, if not more, than what my brother-in-law paid to have his entire house reroofed. This company tries to get the most money out of you that they can. We were stuck because we had already passed the 3-day backout clause. Heck they didn't even start the work until a month later. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. They are a complete ripoff. The only good thing I can say about them is they are very personable when they are trying to get your money. Then their real side shows up.
Check out their license information on CA Contractor's website. The license has complaints, the license has closed at times, been suspended, etc. This was my fault for not looking carefully into this. All I did was make sure the name matched the license number I was given. Do you research with this company. Stay away from them
Shady people! They quote one price sign contract then they tear down roof to say we have to replace all wood so now cost just doubled from $20k to $40k. They should be prosecuted for fraud. Law should be written to protect consumers by being transparent up front. Agreeing then signing one contract to then create new contract doubling cost should be voided.
Nightmare. Please stay away by all means necessary .
Price on a shingled 1500 sq. Ft. Home went from 36,000 to 31,000 to 29,000. I saw right through their shady sales tactics. Which is the price guys? Be honest with a price and stop trying to make it seem like I'm getting a discounted price. This alone I decided to pass because you don't know what the real cost is.
April 18 James text saying he's needs payment for work done on porches. By the way we don't have porches. No work was ever started or completed. This company is unreal. Do they really think homeowners don't take pictures or have, text messages or witnesses on sight.
Wes F.In 2020, my father had an 45 year old roof that was in complete disrepair and we contracted Reliable Roofing to provide options. My father was slow to understand terms and the contractor (Leo) spent more than 3 hours (on two visits) to make sure my father understood the work that needed to be done. When presented with 2 options (quick repair) or full re-tile, my father wanted the full job (+$40K). The team at reliable did a nearly impossible job of repairing large sections of the base, putting up new boarding and GAF-style under-layer on this $1MM home. The roofers repaired serious frame issues (rotted beams) and were able to secure an inspection from the city. It was remarkable how efficient the team was and they repaired the large roof in a matter of 5 days.
Update (2023):
After my dad passed I needed information on the roof within one day, no less. It was easy to reach someone to help and Sandi from the main office was very helpful in immediately sending us a new warrantee and other documents. I was amazed at the customer service.
Regardless of some of the other reviews, our experience was great!
Should be called Unreliable Roofing. No show for 2 appointments. Looks like a blessing in disguise for me after reading their reviews!
