New roof installation in January 2017
On discovery of water damage in our ceiling in June 2017 we checked the roof and found an area of ridgecaps fully missing. An insurance inspector informed us that the issue was due to faulty installation of that area, and advised we follow up with the installer (TradeCraft) accordingly.
I notified Rich Ferrel of this issue by phone on 6/26/17, requesting repair of the roof and subsequent water damage.
Without hearing back, on 6/30/17 a group of roofers arrived unannounced, replaced the missing shingles and left without any confirmation of their work. I immediately checked the area, to see a shingle STILL obviously improperly secured (1 side lifted away from roof, evident from ground). I notified Rich Ferrel immediately (7/30/17) including pictures, and did not hear a response. Last week (7/14/17) via phone I informed him that I intended follow up with the BBB and if necessary small claims court to resolve the water damage and correct the shingle installation fix. Rich Ferrel replied that he would only return in the event of further water damage, and that he would not resolve the water damage itself despite being a result of his inadequate installation.
I've the following to be resolved as promptly as possible, and so far he has refused.
1. Inspection and repair of all water damage (currently minor)
2. Inspection of entire roof and correction of any evident installation issues (including unsecured shingle as left by latest team) due to immediately observable & repeated mistakes
Other issues which were eventually resolved:
- Contract included replacement of 3x 10ft runs of fascia. Subcontractor patched with 1ft sections PLYWOOD, which warped within 1 week.
- Contract included replacement of old flashing, rusted flashing around chimney was left as-is.
- Substantial debris (nails, shingle material)left in gutters, lawn, driveway, etc).
- Amid these issues and related delays, TradeCraft misfiled the insurance documentation to request payment (further delay) and while awaiting the final payment check I returned from international travel over Spring Break to threats Tradecraft would file a lien on the remaining balance, which I made via personal check on 3/24. (and just 3 months later I had water damage they refuse to repair amicably, alongside an obviously pathetic re-reinstallation of the ridgecaps)
