I needed a roof repair before listing my house for sale. The previous re-roof contractor did not install the drip edge properly and caused a leak where the porch roof connected to the fascia. Tom was referred by the porch roof builder and came right out to give an estimate. He and his son did the job with in a week. Whats more, when an issue came up, he came back right away to address it. If I wasn't selling the house, I would definately have them re-roof it when it is needed in a couple more years. Highly recommend them for roofing work.

I was in need of a roof after having a bad leak which resulted in having to have a huge area of plaster cut out of a bedroom ceiling. Once the repairs were made to the ceiling I searched for a roofer. I had roofer after roofer promise to call and set up a date and once they saw if was a flat roof (mine being one roof of a quad), they just never showed up. When Tom Sawyer Roofing came, they gave me a quote. Within 3 weeks they came back and did the work. They were very professional and guaranteed their work. Tom Sawyer Roofing is a great company to do business with! They are punctual, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely easy to work with. I had a leaky porch for about 4 years; everyone that came out and attempted to fix it did not work. The same issue was presented over and over. One phone call, then Tom Sawyer came out took a look. He thoroughly informed me of what was going on, and two days later he was back. Tom and his crew took care of the problem, and at a great price.

Worst contractor experience ever. Working with this guy was like working with an Amway representative that tells you what you want to hear and uses every shady tactic in the book, and then says ""well the Supreme Court said it's not considered illegal"" when you call him out on it. I told this guy that I didn't want to work with him and offered to pay any expenses he had incurred (which were minimal), but he held a $10k deposit hostage and made it so I either had to sue him to get my money back, or pay his extortion rate. This guy has a bogus excuse for everything and if you don't call it straight up dishonest, he is ""plausibly misleading"" to the maximum extent possible. I mean, this guy tried to tell me that the reason my skylight looks like there are rag marks on it is because that's the way the pollen fell on it, not because his guys spilled tar on it and only half-assed the clean up. He tried to tell me the rain forecast was only one day of rain the next week, I literally had to send him screen shots of the forecast showing rain all but one day, before he would accept that my rain gutters needed to be on the house quickly, and then he failed to do it when he said he would, and then had the nerve to ask me what the problem is (my kitchen flooding because the roof was missing rain gutters). I had to send him screen shots of his texts, saying he understood and ""early next week for sure"". I mean every single thing with this guy is a negotiation about what is real, before you can get to fixing the issue. It's just like you're working with a con artist who's very good at making it seem like nothing is his fault. I had to work with this guy because it was a part of a home purchase that the roof would be replaced, and this was the contractor the seller had put the deposit down with. We assumed the contract. Tom obviously understood situation and took full advantage. He quoted our roof at $39.3k and I asked him about it, he explained to me that it was ""all part of the game"" you play with insurance and that if we have to settle, he'll work out a ""fair"" price. After we settled with insurance, we got another $9k, which totaled $19k. When I explained this to Tom he lowered the cost to $26.5k. This was crazy to me, my neighbor (with the exact same floorplan and roof) just got a quote for $16k for the same thing. His answer was to make fun of their roofer because the guy's name was ""Denver"". We went ahead and got a quote for ourselves, which came out to $19k. I kid you not, all from licensed roofers. Tom would not give me back the deposit money and basically refused to budge, although he did mention to be that he could also install solar panels, and that we could find a way to put the roof replacement into the cost of that and get a rebate from the government for doing it. Seeing it as a good option, I was open to it, so I provided Tom our power bills.
Well, for the next several months we went back and forth, I gave him our power usage in several different forms, but he kept saying its not what he needed to give me a quote. He kept saying I gave him an estimate of usage and not exact usage, although I gave him exact usage (in bar graph form). Anyway, after months and months of reaching out and being ignored, and never once receiving a formal quote of any kind. I asked him for itemized quote to update the new cost, he never would. He kept referring to an old contract with somebody else for $39k. After I finally got him to put a price in writing through text, I just gave in and told him to hurry and do the roof. He was overcharging by at least $8k, but I would have had to pay him slightly less than I would have had I just decided to bag him and use somebody else (not that he didn't get it back), and that would have let him have over $10k for nothing. I couldn't wait any longer and didn't have the time or effort necessary to sue him; so, even though I once again repeated my desire to work with another roofer, and again offering to pay any costs he had incurred, his response was that he looked forward to completing the job.
So after months of being ignored and not being able to get a single formal quote of any kind, or even being responded to without having to reach out several times, we tell him to go and he texts us that Monday that he can start this week. Not thinking about it, I said yes go ahead. I was tired of dealing with this guy and so what if the roof was being worked on while they were in town, right. We were only going to be at my home in the evenings anyway, and the way he made it sound they would be in and out within a few days. And then came the excuses and the misleading and the explaining, like a pro. So I wouldn't recommend this roofer to anybody. Every part of this was like pulling teeth, he took complete advantage of my situation with insurance, charged way too much, and took no responsibility for anything they didn't do right.

We called Tom Sawyer roofing co. after the hurricanes last year to get an estimate on a new roof; ours unfortunately didn't hold up in the storm. Tom and his crew were out within days after the storm and had our roof on two weeks after his original estimate. From start to finish they were reliable and used quality products. They worked with our insurance company for us when we had questions and made the processes easy. I'd recommend them to anyone we know! Thanks again guys for the great service!
