Tom Lee Roofing recently installed a new single membrane roof on our 16 unit condo building. In my over 30 years as a practicing architect I have worked with many contractors. I have seen a full range of companies and people in the building trades over the years. I would say that Tom Lee Roofing ranks among the highest level of contractors I have encountered. They have been in business a long time and are very knowledgeable about the work they do. They are professional from top to bottom, from the principals to the workers. I found each person I spoke to to be an excellent communicator. They kept us informed about what they were doing and any changes in the project flow. Our roofing project was fairly complicated but they executed it very well. I would have no hesitation recommending these folks to any of my clients or anyone else looking for a good, honest, and dependable roofer.

I think this is my first negative review on Yelp... and I've waited almost a year to post this one. I wanted to be certain of my facts.
During last month's rainy winter, my home office ceiling was leaking water with each heavy rain. I contacted Tom Lee Roofing on the advice of a friend. (He claims to have had his leaking roof spot-repaired by Lee Roofing in 2010.)
I waited 5+ weeks for an appointment. When Lee Roofing's associate showed, he made a cursory exam of my roof and concluded it needed immediate replacement. It's possible, I thought; after all it had 20 years on it. We quickly descended from the roof for him to show me material samples. A few days later I received a proposal.
Before acting on the proposal, I reached out to a nearby competitor. This contractor agreed to meet me the following day. He took one look at my roof and pointed to a crack in the adjacent siding and told me to patch the crack. ""But if you insist on a new roof, I can write up a bid. But your roof should last another 5-7 years.""
I patched the crack with caulk and covered that portion of the siding with flashing. The leak resolved instantly.
One year later, I'm happy... and up $16,000.
Tom Lee may be a great re-roofer. But I'm not sure they've any interest in smaller jobs.

After years of thinking about it, we finally had our roof replaced, I was quite satisfied with the efforts and quality of the work done by this team. They worked on a solution in the New Year prior to the rains in completing phase one, the main roof, and waited for better weather to complete the tiled bay windows phase two.
My sister's recommendation was 100% spot on!

Thanks Tom Lee Roofing

Tom, Howard, and their team were professional, punctual, and efficient. That includes their office staff as well as the roofers who came to work on our house. They found an unexpected spot that needed to be patched while removing the old shingles. The issue was explained and we were given the option to proceed or not and provided a written change order with the additional cost that day by the lead roofer and then emailed from the office. Howard even came by one day to check in on the progress and make sure we were happy with the service. My husband works in construction so he got up on the roof with the lead guy and was very impressed with the quality of work provided for a fair and reasonable price. I have recommended them to my aunt already. Having functioning gutters again is fantastic, especially since it literally started raining the night after they completed the roof. We did have to be put on a wait list initially a few months back due to the volume of business for roofers around the Bay Area because of last winters storms, but it was well worth the wait to have Tom Lee Roofing fix our roof. They have definitely earned their excellent reputation!

This last week Tom Lee Roofing put a new roof on my home.

Every staff member of Tom Lee Roofing that I interacted with demonstrated exemplary professionalism from start to finish. Yes, they showed up on-time and did everything they said they would, but it was more than that. Somehow they were able to make re-roofing a simple, straight forward, painless endeavor.

Tom Lee, himself, is a knowledgeable, reliable, responsive, detail-oriented, trustworthy, responsible guy. He knows good roof design. He cares about doing a good job and he cares about his employees. I really appreciate that he took the time to explain to me, in detail, how my roof design could be improved to alleviate the problems I had with the old roof.

Juan, the foreman, led a great crew. He ensured that all work was completed as detailed in our contract. Despite temperatures in the 80's and 90's, these guys didn't just power through my roof, they powered through my roof with smiles on their faces. The crew was friendly, courteous, and clearly worked well together.

Cherrisse, from the office, was communicative, helpful, and attentive.

Pricewise, I got quotes from three different companies. Two additional roofing companies dropped the ball at the giving-a-quote-phase. Tom Lee Roofing's quote was squarely in the middle of the three that I got.

Scheduling-- yes, Tom Lee is popular and schedules out far, far in advance. For me, it was worth the wait.

Randy was nice enough but failed to produce the type of report/analysis on their inspection of our roof that they promised and that other vendors were able to do. he took a tone of photos during his inspection, said it would all be included in the report - also, their report is just a quote of the work - no photos to give you reference (we are an HOA so need to show report to all before making a decision).

took 3 months to get them out, another 2 - 3 weeks to get what hey called a 'report' which was 3 lines to re-iterate what i was expecting. still no photos.

based the fact they can't produce what they said at the inspectionalysis/quote stage, I would wonder what the quality of their final work is if they can't clearly document the work that needs to be done to help the customer understand the full extent of the work.

total wasted our time for 3-months of waiting for them to come out!

Business must be rolling for these guys. They don't even have time for an estimate, and that's totally fine with me. Will be happy to give my money to someone else.

I had Copper gutters and a section of tiled roofing and under layer repaired due to 84 years of weathering. I did not shop around but felt the cost was reasonable due to the complexity of the project. I had to call them back to patch some stucco but other than that the experience was great all the way from the estimate through completion. There was a two month waiting list to get the job done but they told me that up front. Mike and the phone staff were very professional and courteous...

Our Victorian home has 2 separate peaked roofs. We had gotten to the point that one of these roofs needed replacement and the other one was getting close. Mike had advised us seven years earlier that we were good for at least another 5 years with some maintenance. He was correct in his estimate at that time. Now it was time to bite the bullet and remove and replace the roofs. We also needed some re-surfacing on a small roof deck. Additionally we wanted to have a weathervane installed. We got several estimates. Mike Chung gave us a detailed estimate and options. His company was experienced with weathervane installation (many were not). His bid was competitive and the reputation of the company was solid (word of mouth recommendations), so we went with Tom Lee. Mike monitored the project throughout the process. The foreman, Uriel, was professional and he led a team of expert tradesmen. They removed and replaced the roofs, built 2 very functional ""Dutch gutters, installed copper gutters, downspouts, and flashing as well as installation of the weathervane (which required a modification of the roof). The result was awesome and the job was completed in 4-days! They were considerate of the neighbors and cleaned up the job site each day. We have received numerous compliments in regards to the new roof and weathervane, as well as the professional workmanship of the crew! I would recommend Tom Lee Roofing to anyone in need of a new roof or maintenance!

This past summer Tom Lee Roofing put a new roof and new copper gutters with screens on our house. It was generally a good job. But there is a small section off a balcony (15-20 ft) of our house that we subsequently discovered also needs gutters (water runs down the house and stains the paint). So we got back in the queue. Five months later after two reschedules on their end - one due to weather, one with no explanation, they arrived to install the copper gutter, but did not have screens for the top of the gutter. They called Howard (the estimator) and he told them that it's my fault that I hadn't asked for them (I had asked for the same gutter they had installed earlier last year - and those included screens), but Howard said I could have screens for $300 more. The foreman invited me to call Howard and speak with him so I did. Howard told me that it had been my responsibility to ask for the screens. My second question, 45 seconds into the call was about the $300 charge for 20 feet of screen and his immediate response was: ""Look you need to decided if you want these screens or us to get the f**k off your property."" I asked him if I had heard him correctly and he confirmed that I had indeed heard him correctly. Perhaps Howard hadn't had his coffee yet. But I'm quite surprised and disappointed at his level of unprofessionalism and disrespect, especially since we already had a relationship from the previous installation and paying them twenty-some thousand dollars earlier in the year for a new roof and gutters. I won't be doing any more business with TLR and certainly don't recommend them, unless you're someone who likes to receive this sort of message.
