Can't say enough good things about UPB. It is so difficult these days to find high quality, straight forward, honest and reliable people to work on your house. We had several renovation and upgrades that we needed to do and searched for some time to find someone we felt comfortable with, who would work with us to come up with some designs, discuss materials, options, and agree a budget that worked. Then we met the owner of UPB, Kevin, and we immediately knew that our search was over. There was no sales b.s. and he took the time to really understand our needs, find a timeline that would work. When the work started it was done with the minimum of fuss and with the attention to detail that a home owner really looks for, especially by Jake the carpenter, all at a very reasonable cost. Even when we decided to slightly change the original plans, it proved to be no problem for this thoroughly professional outfit.

We hired UPB to build an ADU above our carport. The job was pretty extensive. It included demolition of the old attached carport, a lot of site and concrete work for a new foundation, and construction of an elevated 1-bedroom apartment with full kitchen and bathroom. Not only was UPB's price reasonable compared to other bids we got for the job, but the quality of the work was great. Kevin was also reasonable and easy to work with on unexpected changes. Definitely would recommend!

In November I contacted Roy of Surface Shield for an estimate on my Kaneohe home. Their estimates are very competitive and ultimately won my bid out of three other companies. Roy proved to be very competent and professional in dealing with my Monier roof recoating and gave me options. My parents had a leak in their roof over the garage portion of their house. They asked me to provide names/numbers for several roofing companies based on Yelp reviews. I sent them the info for 3 companies including Surface Shield. They randomly chose to call the 2 other companies first, and you can see my prior reviews for those bad experiences. Fortunately, 3rd time was the charm.

My parents were very happy/impressed with the estimator, Mike, and the repairman, Sam. They indicated that Mike and Sam were both professional and efficient. Mike stayed with my parents while Sam repaired the roof. My parents wanted me to specifically say ""Thank you Surface Shield for the follow-through and hopefully this is the beginning of a long, professional relationship."" My experience with Surface Shield was very positive. They replaced the roof of my home and car port and did a great job. I had about 5 different estimates on the roofing job and I went with SSRC for many reasons.

1. Dedicated crew - Everyone working on the job was fully employed by the company and not some pick up off the street.

2. Cost - While not the cheapest, they were very reasonable especially for the product I was getting. After the job was done there were no hidden fees or overruns.

3. Percy, the estimator - By far Percy was the main reason for choosing them. The guy is super old school and trustworthy. He got me an estimate fairly quickly and was super responsive. He spent a good deal of time on the roof to provide a very accurate estimate. I trusted his opinion and he explained all the options thoroughly. He went the extra mile to come back to check the roof after we discussed some options before I committed to them. Even after he got my business, I ran into him at my home a few times during the re-roofing because he wanted to make sure the job was done as agreed.

Let me start by saying a great big MAHALO to Mike Thomson, Austin, Cody, Jaron, and Matt for an excellent professional job on my roof.

Having my windows and gutters replaced, and the house repainted, I felt it would be inevitable that a few of my monier roof tiles would sustain cracks from the numerous workers walking on it, so I decided to wait until everything was completed and have the roof done as the last project.

Sure enough, after inspecting my roof, Austin found a few cracked tiles. Numerous tiles were also loose, barely hanging onto the roof. Surface Shield replaced every broken tile and re-anchored every loose ones. They even re-mortared areas to ensure a solid and leak free roof.
Several tiles were hanging, partially covering the fascia and had to be adjusted and secured, exposing areas of the fascia that was not painted. Austin and his crew, without hesitation, touched up the fascia boards.

During the course of the job, the weather was particularly uncooperative, often raining in the morning or strong winds periodically throughout the day. Austin and his team showed up every morning, accessed the condition, and commenced working pending the weather. At the end of each day, they left the area neat and clean.

One of my concerns that I had in the past was not being able to find replacement tiles that matched the color of my roof. Mike left me with a generous number of spare tiles (that they primed and painted) in case a tile should crack in the future.

When the job was done, the roof looked fantastic and like new. I've had several people who regularly walk their dogs past my house, comment on how great the roof looked. I am actually looking forward to a rainy winter this year knowing there'll be no leaks.

The Surface Shield team did an excellent job recently when they did a repair and restoration of my monier tile roof. The repair work included installing new flashing and fixing leaks. One leak was around a skylight. Another leak was under a cracked tile. The restoration portion consisted of replacing broken tiles, power washing, resealing along hip and ridge lines and roof penetrations, and applying Reflect-Tec primer and coating to the entire roof.

Mike, our project estimator and sales rep, along with Zach, our day to day operations manager, were a pleasure to work with. They took care us of us every step of the way. In fact, everybody who worked on our project, Frank, Andrew, Toan, Austin and others was truly professional in workmanship and demeanor. Their team work and consistent attention to detail was remarkable.

I certainly recommend Surface Shield for any roofing need you may have. The price was quite reasonable for the work they did for us. And, as I say, they did an excellent job. The Reflect-Tec coating looks beautiful, even better than what we imagined. Thanks to Surface Shield I don't have to worry about my roof anymore. I wish I had called them sooner.
