Mr. Melena is a nice guy but the quality of work by his crew is terrible.
They broke several brown roof tiles and did not replace them they just glued together with white caulking. They replaced portions of the sheeting and it was not cut to fit, leaving gaps in the rafter joints. The sheet metal channel was not installed with proper alignment to drain rain water efficiently. Small areas of facia board replacement were not cut properly and the joint caulking was not actually caulking but spackle compound. They tore an eighteen inch gash in my slider screen and did not have it repaired. They were also hired to replace additional fascia board and never returned to finish the job.
I learned my lesson, a handshake is worthless.

Unfortunately my experience with Bob Melena and his work was not good. He did repairs to a small leak in an area that was part of an older addition to a home. This work was contracted prior to selling the home. His work was guaranteed for 2 years according to an email sent by Mr. Melena. Shortly after he completed the work the home sold. Within approximately a month of sale the leak returned after the first rain. Initially he was slow to act. It took 8 months and three ""additional"" repairs for him to ""fix"" the on-going problem. Each time it rained during that period water entered the residence and did damage. He was difficult to reach, would show up unannounced and enter the property and get up on the roof with out notifying the owner. He eventually did a repair in a new area he insisted was the problem. It still leaked. He did a second repair to the same new area. It still leaked. He then presented an invoice for this work although he had given a 2 year guarantee. That ended the relationship. He had been wrong about the first repair. He was wrong about the 2 subsequent repairs. And he was wrong to ask for additional payment. The leak was successfully repaired by another local roofer for a nominal charge in about an hour. 8 months + more $ OR 1 hour for fair $. That's an easy choice. Sorry Superior, found you inferior.

First rain of the season and the leaks began. Called Bob Melena and he responded promptly, professionally and got his crew on my roof as soon as he could. Was in and out in just a few hours and all work was done to perfection. Easiest fix was calling Superior Roofing. Thanks BOB!

Bob is an excellent roofer and experienced professional. He assisted me on an inspection of two homes I needed quickly for the close of escrow. He fit me in with just a couple days notice when I know he was extremely busy. Not only did he evaluate my roofs, he also made a minor repair free of charge. He quickly found any spots of potential trouble. I had him give me a roof certification. Based on over 30 years of buying and maintaining rental property, I would highly recommend Bob as a great guy to call for all your roofing needs. He is honest, reliable, very experienced and will give you great service at a decent price.

I am so happy I found Superior Roofing !! I had a cracked tile on my roof, leaking to the point I could see it on the ceiling. I was so skeptical to call a company to fix it, that I put it off a whole season after I noticed the discoloration on the ceiling. The storms blew in this winter and I was desperate. Searched Yelp and their reviews, found this company and called, they came out in a few days, found the problem, fixed it , and since clay tiles are fragile they left a couple extra tiles in case I need them in the future.
I was very happy with the quick response and honesty and quality repairs, they are now my roofer, if I ever need one again.
By the way the owner has some 46 years experience, he began with a well known roofing company out of Santa Maria years ago.

Superior roofing did a great job on our roof. Bob was present everyday, got there early each morning. He was always available if we had any questions. They finished the roof quickly, and cleaned up very well afterwards. All the workers were so polite. Highly recommend Bob and superior roofing.

Will not use ANYONE ELSE! For any roof and wood trim needs, I go to Bob. He will usually always answer (not his receptionist,...you get HIM!), will come give free estimates as soon as he can and always fits you into his busy schedule. His rates are very fair for the exceptional work that he does. Believe me, I sell real estate and have had my share of contractors. Once I found Bob Melena, I deleted all other roofers from my phone! He and his team are so professional! They expertly repaired my own roof- double flashed it all, replaced all fascia boards and painted them very well, pressure washed tiles, sealed roof tiles, put new paper, etc....while being courteous and helpful to my family all week long. When he found some (previous) poorly completed work, he just fixed it. He does what's right for you, he is honest and cares about how the job turns out. He wants you to be happy. He has a ton of knowledge and NO roof issue is too great for him to handle! He was at my place before any of his guys, got up on the roof with them all, worked hard and was the last to leave. Before leaving, he would tell me what they accomplished and what to expect for the next day. I actually missed having them around once they were all done! And who can say that about annoying roof work?? Tap, Tap, Tap, Call Bob!

Superior Roofing is the third roofing contractor I have used in Santa Maria, and I will never use anyone but Superior Roofing again. Bob Melena runs the company, and he is the first one up on the roof in the morning and the last one down at the end of the day. When Bob gives you an estimate, it is coming from a man with decades of roofing experience and from the man who is actually going to be there every day directing and doing the job. He is absolutely the best, easy to talk to, honest and someone who takes pride in his work, which means he wants your house to look as good as it possibly can when he's finished. If he finds a problem, he lets you know immediately, and he tells you what needs to be done to correct it. I have a 90-year-old house, and he dealt with everything that came up quickly and efficiently. I can't stress enough how much better he was than Roofing Concepts and West Coast Roofing. Save yourself time, money and grief and go with Bob and Superior Roofing.
