I had the complete opposite experience than that of others with Sun Roofing. We had a big roof leak and I got Chang Ahn on the phone immediately, and he was out to see me within 2 hours. He had his team patch things up 90 minutes after that. A huge relief, and a great rescue in a tough situation.

Sun Roofing & Construction is now located at 323 S. Canal St., So. San Francisco, CA 94080. They are currently associated with a roofing supply company. My recent experience with this Contractor ( re-roofing July 2013) is far different than what other reviewers have expressed in the past. I've worked in building design & construction for over 30 years and familiar with roofing systems & their assemblies. When selecting roofing contractors to bid on my building in San Francisco, I targeted firms with good performance records (Bay Area Checkbook) or strongly recommended.. Sun Roofing was selected based on a superior roof proposal and competitive price. They also recently did a superb re-roofing on my neighbor's building. They committed to doing work in the specified time frame. Work was done properly and to normal industry standards. I inspected the overall quality of work each day. The crew chief was very experienced and did a good job of supervision and ensuring every aspect was done properly. Overall job included main roof, 3 secondary roofing areas and waterproofing 8 front windows. I consider this project to be successful, properly done with no short cuts, and quality/workmanship very good.

When my house was built in early 90's in Concord, the construction company
did poor job on my roof whereas my roof tiles were not sticking out enough, so
water dripped down the wall during the heavy rain storms that resulted in leaking
inside the wall by the windows. Yeah... I do not have gutters all around the house.
About 3? 4? years ago, I called Sun Roofing which was recommended by one of
my Coworker who did his roofing thru Sun Roofing in San Francisco, to come
and check it out. Prior to calling Sun Roofing, I already had two estimates with
local roofing folks, and the prices to fix problem (rearranging tiles) were $2500-
$3500 range... Yeah I had tough time getting hold of Mr. Ahn? Max?over the
phone but I figure this guy must be good to be that busy all the time. Obiously,
he was on demand. So I patiently made several calls.....(which was worth it)
Finally, he came to my house and checked it out.... He had identified that only
first and second rows of tiles need to be rearranged by half inche each, and
he cleaned my roof vallys from the piled up debries. All that for only $1200 to
repair (Well, it only took his crew members little over 2 hrs but still good price
compare to other two roofers). No more leaks since then...and I am a happy
camper. The only thing I feel bad is that he had recommend me to install
gutters.... but I am hesitant to call because since it's not in emergency, and
thre is no leaks, I am too lazy to be patient with phone call to schedule with
Sun Roofing however, I have to give this guy a good rating. After all, he had
saved me big bucks that I was able to use toward my vacation, and he also
had saved me from the big headache.

I don't have a huge basis for contrast in regard to other roofing companies, but I can attest to the fact that Sun Roofing is pretty awful. They were used by the former owners of my building, and they botched the job along a section over the garage, which subsequently sprung an enormous leak. Compounding that issue, scheduling them to show up is, as has been formerly noted, a pain, especially because one first has to talk to the receptionist, who is absolutely useless. Eventually, one might get through to Chang, the work foreman, whereupon one can begin the scheduling dance. In my case, at least, Chang didn't even bother showing up to the first two appointments, so I had to take multiple days off work even to arrange to meet him, and then it took multiple visits for the actual work to be done. I'm waiting for a followup call to discuss repairs water-damaged drywall in the garage, and I'm not looking forward to it.

I had this company come out to work on a roof back in 2000, and the above reviewer is right about the inconsiderate workers. They would just throw the supplies down on my roof, rather than set them down, thereby creating possible damage. Working with Chang Anh on scheduling was pretty painful, and I had to call him back multiple times to try to fix a leak that was never resolved. Now there's a small leak in the living room that we noticed from that freak deluge last week, and I've got to call them up for warranty service. Wish me luck - I'll be updating this soon.

::Update::
So Chang came out and fixed the leak for a small fee, which I'm happy about. I'm not going to change my rating as he is really unresponsive to scheduling commitments. It's very difficult to meet with him, and that is enough for me to recommend you go elsewhere.

We had a new roof and shingles installed by this company in 2006 on the recommendation from a person my wife and I knew. These guys were a pain to deal with. Scheduling, inconsiderate workers with no regards for our old house, gettting the inspection completed (which I had to threaten to finally get completed about a year after the job was done) and clearly they thought I would never go up into the attic; well it looked like freaking Ray Charles cleaned up; wood pieces everywhere from the old roof, a used glove and coffee cups. Oh yeah, did I mention the water bottles filled with urine left in our back yard (rather than the garbage) because they were to cheap to rent a porta potty...Bad, bad, bad.
