This was the second time I experienced S'Top's ultra-fast and efficient roofing team. The first time was in my rental, where they did a great and speedy job. This time was also super quick and easy.
The only downsides: communication was a little bit tough with the foreman, and a couple of the crew members treated my home like a bus station (e.g., urinating without flushing or closing the bathroom door, tracking some dirt into my basement). But given how fast they were and how good their work was, I'm still happy to give them four stars.

S'top Roofing just put a new polyfglass/GTA roof in place of our old worn out tar and gravel roof. The job was done quickly, professionally and neatly and at a fair price.. Service was great and we are glad we chose S'top Roofing. Excellent company to work with.

I had these guys put my tar and gravel roof on 20 years ago. They claimed then the roof had a industry standard 12 to 15 year life; I got lots more years than that, which shows how good their installation was .
Last week I used them again. The son is now in charge - time flies! Now they use a newer technology called membranes, with an even longer expected life.
Once again S'top really showed that they knew their stuff. I randomly visited the roof during the day to check on progress and every crew member was friendly and helpful. They answered any question I had and finished up fast. Sure, not everyone speaks English as a first language but so what? The crew is proud of their work, and for good reason. Amazing that roofers can be as professional and courteous as folks I meet in the high tech world.
They did an excellent job of cleanup as well.
Just to show this review is not made up, there was a little paint scrapped off my gutters from their ladders. But they were back within two days to fix, and were very apologetic. Looks great now.
Of course I did my homework both times but I can tell you their prices are extremely competitive now, and were also 20 years ago when I first used them. This tells you something.
You can look around a lot or just use these guys and be done with it. . You can't go wrong. I wish I could give them six stars.

I'm a very unsatisfied customer. DO NOT GO with them. His workers are low quality & sloppy workers. One supervisor and two lousy workers. Don't speak much English but Spanish. They are not careful with the equipment prepping it without any protection against the house. THey can easily scratch paint off the walls. Dripping stuff on the concrete and very sloppy caulking so thick NOT thin & smooth. There was huge globs of caulking on top of the nails. Quality of their work is very poor. NOT QUALITY WORK AT ALL! If you want them to ruin your house they will do it!
Don't waste your time ! Go with someone else. If you go with them, better stand & watch them carefully!

THE GOOD:
Replaced my roof in September 2012 using S'top. I had three estimates before selecting S'top (S'top being the mid price of the 3. Please note that S'top included the cost of pulling a permit and paying for the fees in its estimate whereas the lowest quote did not so I believe that S'top's bid was actually comparable, rather than higher, when that is being taken into consideration).
S'top gave a detailed estimate, down to how many nails would be placed in each shingle, which I liked, and delivered as promised without skimping on materials.
Arriving an hour earlier than I expected (causing me to open the door to 8 men while in my bathrobe, only to be rushed outside to move my car so that they can park in front of my house and begin demolition) the work, which was completed in a single day, was quick, clean, efficient, and considerate of other details (such as washing my skylight before replacement and checking the number of vents on my roof).
THE BAD:
I found the foreman to be hard to communicate with and a bit difficult to work with.
Some of the difficulty may have been due to misunderstanding one another. For example, noone at the job site spoke English as a primary language. For example, I had recently purchased the home and had a new vent installed after learning that my water heater vented carbon monoxide to a bathroom rather than to the roof. While the roofers were on site, it dawned on me that I should ask them to check whether a second vent existed for the stove (since we never thought to check) and asked the foreman to check and make sure there were two vents in my roof. I couldn't tell whether the foreman understood what I was saying (especially since he incorrectly repeated back what I wanted two times then said he'll go check but immediately drove off to get breakfast instead). In fact, to this day, I'm still unsure of the answer.
However, some of the communication difficulty was due to the foreman's rudeness. For example, upon job completion, I paid for the roof then walked outside to inspect it from the ground. I have a tar and gravel roof with a shingle front for decorative purposes and immediately noticed that the left corner of the shingle roof had not been shingled. So, I immediately called the company back. The receptionist stated that she will have them immediately turn around and come back but, over 30 minutes later, I was still out front waiting for the foreman's return. The foreman came back with a passenger and, when he saw the area that I was referring to, immediately mocked the area for being so small. I told him that the section of the roof was shingled for decorative purposes and it looked ugly to have it bare with tar. He then argued that it was bitumen that I was looking at and not tar and stated that he was trying to do me a favor by protecting that portion of the roof with bitumen rather than just shingles. I asked whether he can shingle over the bitumen, only to have my question ignored by the foreman as he went on about the quality of his work and asked, repeatedly, whether I preferred that he remove the ""protective"" bitumen just to replace it with ""pretty"" shingles. Luckily, the disagreement was broken up by the passenger, who (after taking a walk through my neighborhood to verify that all of my neighbors had shingles on the area that I had spoken of) simply stated ""yes, we can shingle over the bitumen"" and then agreed to come back out the next day to fix it (which he did).
All in all, S'top appears to be a company which aims to do what they promise to do -- no more and no less. What I liked most about the company is their apparant interest in being fair. Based on my experience with them, I feel that, if I experienced a leak in the future due to their workmanship, they would repair the damage as long as they believed their workmanship did contribute to the leak. Despite arguing with the foreman, I could sense that he took pride in his work and his integrity and values giving honest service for fair pay. Hopefully nothing will happen in the future that will force me to test that theory but that's what I sensed from our interaction together.
It's been raining a lot over the last 4 months and I'm happy to state that the roof is holding strong. I would consider using S'top again for standard, straight forward jobs but not for jobs that would require a lot of commucation or alterations from the norm.

Roof installed in 2007 and still under warranty, yet, this company is irresponsible for a severe roof leaking due to heavy storm rain back up overflow resulted from shorter - than - normal flashing copper plate. Called several times and company owners ignore their faulty workmanship, instead, making excuses for a rusty chimney cover. After spending $500 replacing chimney cover and another $300 for gutter cleaning, still experiencing pouring storm rain leaking. This proved that how unprofessional and ignorant this company's owners are.
Proceeded with another roof inspector to get the leaking report as evidence for a small claim court judge.
Yelp does help to post this very unpleasant experience.

I used to work for a construction company in SF and they always used S'top for roofing. Swore they were superb and could handle any situation and their prices were very fair. When I bought my home in Berkeley 10 years ago I had them do the roof. They were done in a single day and it looked great. Worked flawlessly for every year we lived there.
We just sold that house and the roof inspector was in awe. He asked who in the world did the work. Of course we him. His comment was ""I would be proud to be able to say I did this roof!""
Well, we're looking at doing the roof on our new house... Guess who was at the top of my call list to get a quote? Yep!

Professional, competent and reasonable. I always recommend them to my clients and everyone has always been completely satisfied. Their pricing is really competitive and their work is as professional as other companies who charge substanitally more! They are prompt, easy to reach and do a great job.

S'top installed a complete new roof on my Victorian house. The quote was very reasonable. The workers were prompt and very efficient completing the entire process in less than 2 days. I was advised on non-roof areas that needed repair. They cleaned up all the debris from the old roof. I had no complaints at all.

Last week S'TOP Home Roofing installed a new, bitumen roof on my daughter's home on 11th Ave in San Francisco. The workmanship was excellent.
I selected S'TOP roofing for two reasons. First, their bid was the most reasonable.
Secondly, the tar & gravel roof that S'TOP installed on my own San Francisco home in 1996, has stood up to 15 rainy seasons without a leak.
Just as with 15 years ago, I was impressed by the professional manner their crew goes about the removal of the old roof and installation of the new. Each worker seemed to know exactly what was necessary to do.
In addition, their attention to the details of the job was remarkable. Replacing chimney bottoms and caps with new galvanized ones was greatly appreciated along with all the flashing work.
And, just as with all first rate jobs, the area around our home and our neighbors was in spotless condition when their truck drove away.
Of course the fact that they are insured and covered by Workman's Comp always gives the home owner peace of mind.
I give them 5 Stars on all accounts.
