Stephen Curley is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. He is blatantly rude and disrespectful. He became irate and offended because I referred him to as ""Sir"" and accusing me of disrespecting him. I tried, on several occasions, to get information from him and he was flat out rude and unwilling to cooperate.

He claims to be in business over 20 years. How he has remained in business all those years is still a mystery to me. Beware when calling him. If you do call him, I hope you catch him on a good day.

I called Stephen Curley Roofing to get an estimate on a new roof. Stephen answered the phone and immediately asked. ""Are you the lady who I just talked to?"" He seemed rather annoyed. It was not me with whom he spoke, so I continued to inquire about getting an estimate for a new roof. The person whom eventually came out, was very nice. It was Not Stephen Curley. Though I did not get a call to tell me when they would be sending someone out like I was told that I would. The gentleman, (Not Stephen Curley) explained that he was in town as he goes to other cities and just decided to stop by. I prefer to know when a company is planning on sending a stranger to my home. Anyway, I let him proceed. He was very nice. When I was was given an $11K estimate for a home that is 1300 Square Feet I knew that I would not be having them put a roof in my house. I have received other estimates that were far more reasonable, with excellent referrals. My other home in Rohnert Park had a Steele Tile Roof put on it and it is 2300sq Ft and was not much over $11K Price gouging? Perhaps.

I did agree that I would like to have them come out and work on the gutters and replace any missing shingles as the man who came out was a nice man and explained what they would do. It would cost $450. So I called Stephen Curley. He had told me that day that everyone in the office has been sick and they didn't have any idea when they could send someone out. At the end of that day! Lisa called and said, ""Stephen wants to send someone out tomorrow am.""; I told her that I needed a least a few days notice as I had a MRI scheduled at 7:15 am. I would not be home and we were expecting rain that evening. When Lisa called me at the END of the day, Stephen Curley was on the other line so Lisa said ""I will call you back after I talk to Stephen. She would explain how I felt to him. She did NOT call and confirm. I waited until 7:00 that evening for her call. I even sent several emails. (Check your emails Stephen) She did not call so I left at 7:00am in the morning to get my MRI prior to a schedule surgery forthcoming. Again. No call back from Lisa.

According to Stephen Curley they sent someone out the next day while I was gone. I left at 7:00. I assure you no one was here at 7:00 am. I
Either way, I called them today to schedule them to come out as we are having nice weather in Santa Rosa. Stephen left me smart a-- on message on my answering machine. Lisa had apparently told him that I confirmed the above mentioned appointment when in fact I Explicitly DIzd NOT! He basically called me a liar! He was aggressive and very rude. Now I understand why he had asked me if I was the same lady whom talked to him prior with an attitude about him. He comes off nice, and then releases his crass, belligerent, non professional nastiness on his female customers. Perhaps the male ones as well. I am grateful for one thing, that I saw who he was and how he disrespects women and even perhaps men before he was hired to do the gutters. He was disrespectful, unprofessional, shady and rude! I would not have him put a roof on my dog house. Beware. He is nice at first and turns on you at the drop of a hat.

Had a small roof repair job and called around. Very courteous and knowledgeable on the phone, offered relatively quick service, and I am very pleased with how the roof repair looks. You can't even tell a solar tube was removed and a new roof surface patch was installed. It matches exactly. Very satisfied with the service!

I called this company a few weeks ago and spoke to Darlene, who was wonderful. She spent a lot of time with me on the phone and even looked at my house on Google Earth. She said she was going to pass on the information to Stephen, the owner, and that he'd call me back. Unfortunately, that never happened. When I called back a few weeks later, Stephen answered the phone. He was extremely rude and unprofessional and essentially hung up the phone on me after falsely assuming that all I wanted was a patch-job. While I have no idea as to the quality of Stephen's work, his arrogance and discourteousness were readily apparent, and I would not recommend using him.

I tried to get a quote for a roof repair recently from this company. I spoke to Darlene and detailed the issue. When she mentioned a price, I told her I would need to consult with my wife and get back to them. The next day, I confirmed the order over their answering machine. No response.

I got the impression they were not really interested in a small repair job. When I did speak to Mr. Curley, he seemed hostile and annoyed. We scheduled a futher call which he did not keep. When Darlene called the next day to inform me he was ill, she also convey the impression that a small repair was of little interest to them.

I thanked her for the call and told her I would seek help elsewhere. I was left with the impression they thought that taking my call was doing me a favor.

These folks were recommended to me by friends. Their actual work may be good, but their front office was hostile and indifferent. Maybe they have more work than they can handle right now. They wasted my time and if they were not interested in the work, they should have said so up front.

Stephen Curley Roofing (SCR) was one of four companies from whom we obtained a bid to reroof our home. (another one was Home Depot, who has done home improvement projects for us before.) Why go with a small business instead of a company?

Well, we liked the very personal touch, and we like supporting local businesses.

What initially impressed us about SCR was the support staff in the office: they were pleasant, polite, knew the answers to all our questions. An even bigger plus was that Stephen himself returned phone calls/texts/emails same day! Stephen was very open about the bidding process, the materials and related costs, and thus won our trust. Roofing crew was great, on time, cleaned up after themselves each day and did its job on time. We highly recommend SCR.

I was referred to Steve by the Solar company we are currently working with on our house.

Like some of the other reviews here, my interactions with Steve started out ok. He informed me he was very ""in demand"" and gave me the impression i should feel privileged that he would even look t my home project as he was so busy he didnt need more work.

I get it, i work in the commercial construction world and understand how busy everyone is right now.

Cliff his foreman was terrific to deal with conversely. Cliff gave us a bid and we signed the contract, made our deposit, and waited until the date to start would arrive.

I should mention we hired them because we are looking to do a Solar Project and needed the roof to be redone prior to the solar project.

Well about 4 days before the roof was to be installed, we get an email from the Solar guy asking if they could put up their hardware before the new roof would be put on. I agreed to this without thinking much about it.

Solar guys install their mounting hardware, then new roof goes on and we get a final invoice for an additional $1910!! Steve was kind enough to discount that down to only an additional $1700.

Turns out that when the roofing company installs a new roof over Solar hardware they charge $50 per mount to put flashing around it.

This is my bad in that i didnt re-read the contract when the solar guy asked me to place his hardware first. If i had re-read the contract i would have seen that line item #2 does state they (the roofers) will charge for that.

Point that gets me most fried is when i called to talk with steve about this, no calls back, but another invoice hits me. I speak with Cliff and he is very understanding. My point to him is that NO ONE advised us that if we were to do this, it would be an additional cost. The outward message was ""its in the contract""

As one who works in the Commercial Construction Industry locally, if i change a contract and subsequently raise the price on the end user- i had better damn well advise them of this!

Front-end arrogance, lack of ethical advising, and back-end attitude.

There are many other better options for your roofing needs, i can suggest a few!

Stephen Curley Roofing did a great job refurbishing the flat-top portion of my roof and capping it with a 15 year warranted 60 mil TPO overlay. His crew also did a great job restoring my gutters and added a high quality leaf guard. The workmanship was excellent, and everything went exactly as Stephen, himself, stated in the original bid. Stephen reminded me a few days ahead of the job, then greeted me at my front door the morning the work started. I spoke directly with Stephen about all the work, and he explained everything accurately and honestly. The roofing industry has plenty of contractors who discredit the profession. But, I'm glad I found Stephen Curely and had him do my roofing job. He is a true professional, and I'd recommend him to anyone.

Recently we had our roof replaced by Steve and his crew. Steve's planning, execution and clean up was absolutely flawless. He gave us an honest, fair price, did what he said he would do when he said he'd do it and cleaned up everything. His material selection was of the highest quality, his suggestions accurate and his crew demonstrated excellent workmanship. It is true, as others have noted, that Steve can sometimes be difficult to contact and slow to return calls. But, realize that Steve is running a very personable service that requires his attention to detail. He has only one crew, some of whom have worked for him for more than 2 decades...that alone speaks to how he handles people. So it may take a few phone calls to get his call in return, but as I told him, he could return every call quickly if he sat at a desk and had 5 crews working...but he doesn't. Every job is a personal transaction for him and he checks on how it's going through the process. So, if you want quick phone calls and a mass produced roofing experience, there are any number of local companies who will fill the bill. But if you want a personal, high quality job at a fair price, call Steve...and be patient, call back occasionally, be polite and respectful as he is, and realize that these days, quality and a personal touch may take a little longer, but it's well worth it.
