WHEN I THINK OF MY RECENT EXPERIENCES WITH THEM, I THINK RUDE, ARROGANT, UNPROFESSIONAL, TOTALLY BEFUDDLED!!
We had been dealing with SR for some 25 years, they were generally providers of excellent work and had a 20 year guarantee, Recently the founder/owner Tom, getting old, retired and the business has been taken over by his son and son in law - what a DISASTER they ARE!

The two of them and their criticizing each other, their bickering, neither knowing what is going on or what is the other is or is not doing - they would make a FUNNY SITCOM, two bumblers (I think of Abbott & Costello or Laurel & Hardy) way over their heads running a good business into the ground!

MYSELF AND MY GENERAL CONTRACTOR (WHO also referred them a lot of business in the Past) had left them about 10 messages that a roof they put on 10-15 years ago had a very small, slow leak...No big deal. Gary promised he would get to it in a day or two. My tenants even texted him that they would be there to show him the leak from the inside...he never showed up, Followed through, Or Called us.

So I kept calling finally getting SCOTT (Tom's son or son-in-law). Told him how we had been waiting for weeks, that we expected better consideration from them, work was under guarantee, and i had had a good relationship on a lot of properties with Tom.

He said he would find out where Gary dropped the ball....same old BS, didn't hear back, called him 2-3 times, finally he answered and could remember what I was talking about, the address or when to see. For the umpteenth time i had to give him the address and the contact info of the tenant to see the area, and I was exasperated with their total unprofessionalism and incompetence. Scott sensed that i was pissed off so he got an attitude, askiing me why I was annoyed, and that hen didn't need to deal with that....so the Azzwhole hung up.

Ok. BE FOREWARNED; to me they are A LAUREL AND HARDY PAIR - Typical, father creates a business, gets old, retires, leaves it to a son and other family but they don't have a clue how to continue since they don't have Senior's smarts and business acumen, etc. - SO THE BUSINESS JUST DIES (as it should in this case).
BTW, Another reviewer complimented the company saying the estimator Bruce was great, he WAS, but he has since DIED - Rip.

Excellent work and great quality. Repaired broken tiles and did a welfare check on our paper. Eric and his team are the best!

As a neighbor to someone who just used this business, I can tell you that their workers just leave their trucks wherever they want - across your driveway, in the middle of the street, it doesn't seem to concern them. At one point, I looked out our bedroom window, and saw one of their workers on our property, without permission. He had stepped onto our roof, put a ladder down onto our patio, and was stepping down his ladder when I suddenly saw him. I was shocked. He didn't ask, or inform us, he just did it. Now, in fairness, he was planning to clean up some roofing debris that had fallen onto our patio, but he could have easily rung our doorbell and asked us if it was okay to come onto our property to clean up his mess. In addition, they don't warn you that roofing debris will fly into your yard and completely coat your outdoor furniture -- you get to find that out on your own. Black tar debris all over the place. These people do this every day, you'd think they could find a way to be more professional and warn folks. I would never use this company based on the way I saw these workers behave.

Gary and the team were professional and hard-working. They did a first-rate job on our major roof reconstruction project on a steep pitch A-frame with dormers, skylights, an addition, and a separate garage.

During the estimation phase, Gary was knowledgeable and clear about all the details of the process and cost. He responded quickly to questions and showed up on time when we needed to meet in-person. He obviously cares about quality workmanship and customer service.

Despite a complicated project located in a remote part of Marin County, Tony and the crew started early every morning and cleaned up the site every evening. They were respectful and friendly to my family during Covid, and they wore masks, even outdoors. The team was dedicated to the very end, finishing up all the details during a heavy downpour on the last day. That's pro.

This review is long overdue but as I sit here with the pouring rain outside and no dripping inside it is time to write. Standard Roofing has worked on roof over the years. Several years ago there was a leak and the source was really hard to find. Bruce and his team persevered, found and repaired the problem. Voila! No more leaks.

Standard Roofing is highly recommended by us. We have a construction business and have used these guys as a subcontractor on about a dozen projects over the last few years - some of them patch jobs, and some entire new roofs. Bruce, the estimator, is very courteous, professional, and timely. All the various crews we have worked with at Standard were great guys...and best of all, no roof leaks!

I'd imagine a business of this size does something like 500 roofs a year between entire new roofs and patch jobs. It's too bad to see all of these poor Yelp reviews about Standard Roofing. The dozen or so low reviews on Yelp represent a small fraction of 1% of their customer base. I'd imagine a very significant portion of their business comes from General Contractors, such as ourselves, with little time to write any reviews online.

Great guys, great crews, excellent old world craftsmanship, reasonable prices, and on-time.

I contacted Bruce A. Mullins to come out to a property we're buying to inspect the roof and attic interior. A colleague who had a good experience with them recommended Bruce and Standard Roofing, so I expected a fairly painless experience, as any simple roof inspection and subsequent repairs usually are.

Bruce was only able to access one side of the roof (there was an awning blocking his access to the other side), and he forgot to bring a smaller A-frame ladder so he could access the attic from inside the house. He said we'd need to schedule another inspection, and that I could arrange that by calling the number on the business card he gave me with his name on it. Okay, that's fine, rather odd that someone who does this professionally doesn't have an A-frame ladder handy in their truck, but I could work around that without it being too much of an inconvenience.

Starting in the afternoon of the day that Bruce inspected the property, I reached out to Standard Roofing and have spent the last ~two weeks trying to schedule a time for them to come back and look at the attic and remainder of roof (I was just reaching out to April Rodriguez as hers is the only number I was ever given). I LITERALLY have not heard back from them once. I've left multiple voice messages and sent quite a few emails, but it's 7/5/18 and Standard Roofing has been radio silent since 6/25/18.

We didn't ever pay anything to Standard Roofing, so I'm not upset about having been grifted or something like that; I'm more annoyed that I spent so much time coordinating with the agents selling the building, the testy tenants who occupy it, and also of course with Standard Roofing. Now I have to start that process all over again.

I was holding out hope that I might hear something back by now, because I want to believe that my colleague's recommendation was a good one, but at this point I'm thoroughly disenchanted with Standard Roofing and as a real estate broker will be telling anyone who even mentions roof work not to touch Standard Roofing with a ten foot pole. Reading these other reviews, it looks like I'm not the only one who feels this way after having dealt with them. Unfortunate.

Don't waste your time...after 20+ years of doing business with them, I am breaking up.

Called for a small patch job. Bruce comes out and estimates $500. Then I get a written estimate for $945 (89% over verbal estimate). Similar scenarios have happened before but this time I called to question it (4 times!) and never got a call back from Tom, the owner.

SO I went back to Bruce who said horrible things about his own company, the one HE has been the face of, for decades. When I said I would post a bad review if we didn't schedule the work he asked me not to do that, that he would get the job done for the original estimate.
3 months later, dozens of nice phone calls asking to be scheduled and...well, I finally ""got the message.""
On our last call I said ""if Marvin can't put in the calendar this next week, it will be the last straw."" TO which Bruce replied laughingly, ""What? You think I can break his legs?""

Ridiculous now on every level and a complete waste of my time.

Right now this experience has been horrible both in the initial work and their follow up. (I will finish this write up good or bad after the resolution of Standard Roofing fixing or not fixing my roof).

Right now, my answer is avoid them at all costs. I'll see within the week if I should change this.
