Founded in the 1920s by Sy Greene and Myrlte, Somay (Southern Manufacturers Agency) began by supplying raw materials to professional painters for their unique paint formulations.

Following the 1926 Hurricane in Miami, the Greenes were approached by local officials to develop a product that could help with the issue of leaky roofs.
The Greenes responded by developing a suitable product, leading Somay to evolve into a manufacturer of paints and coatings.
