BEWARE !!! Installed a system that does not work not they claim they are filed for chapter 11 and you can't get hold of them.

Update July 9 - The call overflow center just hung up on me after waiting 30 minutes. I guess Akilani didn't want to hear My complaint about the lack of response from the main office. I was not rude to this person and would give them a zero after leaving 3 previous messages and now an unwarranted disconnect!

After waiting for an estimate informed there's too burdensome permit process in SF and there not interested in this project . So if youare in SF DON'T bother calling Petersen Dean!

We are so happy with our new solar panels! PetersenDean did an incredible job with our panels. We worked with Marvin Jimenez as our project coordinator and he made sure that we were taken care of. Laura and Jessica were great to work with as well. They called me and made sure that I was aware of everything throughout the entire process. Since everyone was trying to get their solar panels before the end of the year, PetersenDean was extremely busy at that time, but they made sure that we were able to get our panels set up before the end of the year so we could get our tax credit. At one point we weren't going to get our panels in time, but Jessica and Laura managed to get us taken care of before the deadline and we so appreciate that! We have been monitoring our panels through the Solar Edge app which is very user friendly and Edison is already buying our electricity! So exciting! We would highly recommend PetersenDean for anyone looking into getting solar panels.

6 months ago I purchased a roof and a solar panel array with battery from PetersenDean. The roof does not seem to be leaking and the installation was fast and effective, although their cleanup could use a little work, but that was not a big deal.
The solar part of the system has not worked properly in 6 months. The project manager that I have had to work with did not display a knowledge of the project and the follow up by the company has been sorely lacking. I have been spending more money in electrical (per PG&E) that before I got the solar because it is charging and discharging the battery from the grid at peak hour instead of from the solar panels. I have spent days off of work waiting for them to show up and burning my vacation hours. I am at home today because I was told they would be here to fix the system and I just got a call from the installer saying that he really did not make the appointment for today. I expected to be working with a professional company when I signed the contract with PD. I am very disappointed. Also, before you are allowed the see the control panel that can prove if the system is working they force you to sign off on the contract. That is how they caught me. I trusted them to have done the job when I signed off on the contract. Once the contract was verified the customer service hit and even further all time low.

This review is LONG, LONG time coming.
I bought my home in 1990 and loved the wood shake roof. Absolutely loved it. That is, until the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve rolled around, when neighborhood fireworks launches raised fears that my roof ... and home would ignite. After a few years of worry and paranoia, I decided to reroof with non-combustible roof material. I settled on concrete tiles and contacted a number of local (San Jose) firms offering tile roofs, PetersenDean among them. The proposal I received from PD was competitive, and I went with them. The workers were efficient and the reroofing was completed in two days, as I recall (hazily 20+ years later). The tiles have survived the passage of time through alternating El Nino and La Nina cycles.
The only time the roof required attention was a couple years ago when a wind storm collapsed my roof antenna, and about a dozen tiles were broken. (The antenna should have been dissembled and removed a decade or more ago, but I never took action until I was compelled to.) Although aware that the warranty might have lapsed, I called PD and asked Carol whether the tiles could be replaced. I've worked with Carol a few times over the years, and she was as professional and friendly this time around as she was back then. She researched my account (PD actually kept my ancient files!) and informed me that the specific model, the Monier Villa tile, was no longer available, or the supply was limited to whatever was in PD's bone yard. I can't remember which.
In any case, PD's roof installation supervisor (Javier, I believe) stopped by to replace the broken tiles the following Saturday. The replacement tiles were identical in shape to the existing tiles, but slightly different in color. So Javier took original-color tiles from the back side of the house (not visible from the street), replaced the broken tiles in the front with the originals from the back, then inserted the off-color tiles on the back side away from the street. Smart. As I mentioned above, this was on a Saturday, and Javier was nice enough to juggle this work with his son's soccer practice. I appreciated his diligence.

6 months.... that was the time it took between signing a contract to replace the roof and completing the job ( the damage done to the house from leaving it unprotected in the rain and from the holes in the ceiling is not yet fixed but they promise it will be 'soon'... but their collection department has the gall to ask for payment in full before they finish!)
If you want to work with a dysfunctional large company with many divisions and poor communication then hire Petersen Dean .
Don't believe that their warranty is better or longer because they've been in business for 40 years- the warranty is from the company who makes the product they put on your roof and NOT from Petersen Dean
Don't pay more for them to do your roof - Using a local roofer with a lower bid will save you a lot of time and aggravation

Most reviews are submitted after the job is done. However, I thought I need to post this review now to help other people make more informed decisions.
I signed a contract with PetersenDean on 07/27/2017 for a re-roofing project for my Sunnyvale home. All employees were very responsive, I was worried about the timing and they assured me that the job will be complete well before the winter. Everything was perfect (hence the one star) That was of course until the contract was signed. Here is a timeline of events since then:
07/26/2017: Contract was signed with help of M.K (although he mentioned he will be my main point of contact I never heard from him after the contract was signed)
08/03/2017: K.M emails as my ""project coordinator"" asks for confirmation of material choice. (Again I never heard of her after this email)
08/30/2017: C.T emails me as my (2nd) ""project coordinator"" informing me that they are working on permit. (Never heard of her after this email either)
10/12/2017: (about 11 weeks after signing) I emailed C.T asking for updates.
10/13/2017: I.B emails as my (3rd) ""project coordinator"". She says she will update me by next week for a schedule in November.
10/24/2017: I asked for an update after not receiving any response.
10/25/2017: I.B responds and for the first time, she mentions that there will be delays because of other projects! She says ""we can get to your project in about 5 weeks"". When I complained, she forwarded it to her supervisor and said we will get a response ""shortly"".
10/27/2017: I emailed R.S (I.B's supervisor) and asked for a schedule of the next steps with dates.
10/30/2017: No response from R.S. I called her and left a message.
11/01/2017: Giving up on R.S and contacting I.V (my 3rd project coordinator) she mentioned her lead ""A.R will call you this morning"" which didn't happen.
11/02/2017: when I asked again for an update, R.S responded by first saying they are working on a schedule. After I asked when I will have the schedule, she said there is no schedule. Basically she said since she cannot predict the whether then they do jobs week by week!
Bottom line, after 14 weeks no one in PetersenDean seems to have any clue about when my project will be started.

We are very happy with Petersen Dean. Our first contact with Eric Whitlock, our Sales Representative was very good. He helped us decide where to place the panels and how many solar panels we needed. Our Project Coordinator, Nikita Schottman was very helpful. The installation went very smoothly. All the workers were very professional. I e-mailed Nikita a few days ago with a question....in no time at all I had an answer.....we appreciate such great service.... We have had our solar system one year this month...We love it and I am very proud to say....we have Petersen Dean Solar Panels. I would highly recommend them to to anyone.

We bought our house two years ago. Our first electric bill was over $600. First, we changed all 240 light bulbs to LED which reduced bills by half. Then we installed solar panels, and now when I see $20 amount due, I ask, ""Honey, why the bill is so high?""
