We used them on a project and their work was so shoddy that the roofs leaked after only a few years. So we sued them and got a judgment, but they are not paying becuase they claim they do not have the money. So thier state contractors license was suspended, but they are still working as an unlicensed contractor ripping off folks. Beware.
You installed a solar system on my home in the city of Yorba Linda, Ca. I am very pleased with the installation and workmanship. However, I have a problem with the sub-contractor that installed the electrical panel. Although I am pleased with the overall workmanship, there customer service was lacking. I never received phone calls that they are coming to install the panel, the stucco patch work, the city approval. I just happen to be home at the times they came. The manager/boss of the electrical install became very upset that the inspector had them do additional work to pass the inspection, which made him upset and use profanity, which made me question the companies ability to fallow code, which made me feel that he was cutting corners. It wasn't a big change in plans, he overreacted. The reason I am writing about this person is because It made me question the workmanship I received. I spoke to my contact person at Peterson and Dean about the problem with no resolve.
Saying this, i still would hire Peterson and Dean for my solar system. I hope this will help in training their employees and informing the sub-contractors working under the company name Peterson and Dean to be professional at the homes of there customer.
After getting a lot of different piecemeal numbers from various solar installers like Solar City as well as smaller companies, Petersendean was the only company to post their prices and give me an actual estimate (http://petersendean.com/solar/solar-packages/) to buy solar. The other companies talked too much about leasing, and that's just not what I wanted to do. Richard Bruce provided the initial in-person consultation, and it was no pressure. He provided detail estimates and patiently explained the process as well as made sure to answer all my questions. Later in the process, Rishi Narain helped with the ongoing project updates and always responded timely to my email inquiries. Their service should be considered the standard. In the past several years of dealing with contractors, air conditioning (HVAC) companies, plumbers, etc. in the San Fernando Valley, I feel like I've grown numb to the fast talking salesmen with their borderline condescending approach. In contrast, Richard, Narain, everyone associated with Petersendean was always professional and courteous. It was like dealing with Costco or Nordstrom compared to buying something from a kiosk. Anyway, the process of completing the solar panels took a while, about 5 months, but that was expected because there are several inspections, permits, and coordination of different parties involved, including the local power company (LADWP) and the city building and safety office. I don't think I would have had the time and energy to coordinate all this myself, or at least, it's not something I would want to do. That Petersendean and Bruce/Nishi (and all the others) took care of all this was worth the cost. Could I have saved money somewhere else? I really don't know, but based on the numbers I was looking at before selecting Petersendean, I don't think I would have saved much, if any. I'm not a contractor. I don't know how to research solar panel manufacturers or the people who install them. A roofing company makes as much sense as any other when it comes to a complex project like installing solar panels. Now that the panels are on and the solar power running, I'm absolutely satisfied with the results. They even installed a wireless solar power monitoring system and made sure it synced up with my wireless router. If you are considering solar, go with Petersendean.
Carrie D.My husband and I researched 4 other companies before settling with PetersenDean. Our consultant Brian Pease was great and provided excellent service. The contractors installed quickly and we've had our system for 4 months now. It's producing more than anticipated which I'm glad they were conservative with the numbers rather than over promising and not delivering! My last electric bill was $.66 and feel that the process was seamless from start to finish!
Robert P.How about no stars! I can't say much about there service because there was none. I made an appointment with them for July 11th at 10am at my home and no one ever called or showed up that day. A day that I stayed home from work in order to meet with them. Buyer Beware!

Rob M.Brad Schmidt at Petersen Dean is an excellent salesperson at Petersen Dean. The options where clearly spelled out and as well as monitoring our needs for solar. We weren't pressured to make a decision and the warranty service that Petersen Dean are superior to others. With PD we have a 30 year warranty and we are using USA made parts. I wonder if the others smaller and larger companies will be around after the solar incentives run out. Even after the purchase, Brad continues answer questions and help out with our needs. It is so nice to see our meter going backwards. No question but to go with Petersen Dean! Tell Brad Mucho sent you!
Suck! Suck! Suck! I referred friends and was promised finders fee and never received it. I made several request , 4 or 5 and got more promises. Yet, 2 years later, I am still promised and still nothing.
Paid for our solar panels in November. Still not up and running and I am getting the run around from the service people. Now I am having to pay my solar loan and my electric bill.
Bev W.Very pleased with our Peterson Dean solar experience. We've been wrestling with the idea of solar power for several years, and I liked what Jim Peterson had to say about what PD was about and how they operated. Our meeting with Alex Darr, the company rep for our area, was very productive, he answered all our questions about the value of solar, the size of our system needs and the probable panel layout on our roof, comparing our current power costs and what we could save with solar, the details of financing, and getting the best value for our dollar with the finance company, and how to get our 30% solar refund claimed on our taxes. Both Alex and Jessica Hermosillo, the project manager, helped us with getting the panel layout changes we requested approved. The permit approval took some time, (a few weeks), but that was waiting on the county. Once the permits were issued, we scheduled an install date a few weeks later. The installation took three days between rain storms, and the installation crew was very personable and informative on how everything was getting installed.
After installation was complete we waited on the county inspector for about three days, and then a few more days for PG&E to approve the transition and permission to operate. So within a week and a half of install, we were operational and following our power generation levels through the Encore Energy app on our iPhones. One final note, it is the winter season, and the actual power output is not at its maximum, its still generating more power than we use in a day.
Thank PD!..........Thom W.
Not only is this company's quality of work at the highest levels, their customer service model is what every company in America should strive to be like. Petersen Dean did the roofing on my parent's new house several years back. The warranty was well past it's expiration mark. The roof was sustaining some leaks after that period. My mother could not afford to have a roofing company come out and pay for the cost of repairs. We were able to find out from the builder that Petersen Dean Roofing was the contractor used for my parent's house. I contacted them and explained the situation. Within one week over $8,000 of repairs were done at their cost. Although the warranty expired and they had no legal obligation to take care of the repairs, they stood behind their original work and without hesitation took care of everything. Recommending Petersen Dean is a no brainer. Why would anyone ever want to use anyone else. First class company with first class results!
