Took a week for an estimate? I received three other estimates in about two days. Not very responsive.

Lots of red flags for this company, very deceptive practices, wish I noticed before I wasted my time.
Note: the meaningless ""5 Star Rating"" clip art in their promo photos, neat, wonder why it doesn't say where that rating is from?
Then the ""Good Manufacturing Practices certification"" badge art on these photos, that's interesting, as that certification is for FOOD and DRUG products to assure it was made in an FDA approved facility.
Then look at their website, most of the images are of european homes and even a Scandinavian(?) painting company worker.
Well, I just wish I looked at them more critically, before.
Many things do not look right with this company.

Then my experience....
Do not let them waste your time.
Had an appointed adjusted my schedule to be here at the time they picked, the 45 mins before the appt, the Project Manager, Abe, called to say he was a little tied up and would be about an hour late. Ok, that's fine, I can wait.
Then, nothing. No show, no call. Radio silence.
It's the next day now and they still haven't reached out to me. Clearly this is just how they run their business and how little they care about their customers.
Incredibly inconsiderate, do not give them the opportunity to waste your time.

We have a large two and three-story English Tudor home in Hillsborough that is very complex. It had a 30-year-old shake roof that needed replacement. My wife and I were concerned about the fire issues with a shake material but worried that a composite material would not do the home justice. We contracted SmartBuild to replace the shake with spectacular ""Presidential"" material! The crew was knowledgeable and efficient. They cleaned the site after completion. The folks at SmartBuild were responsive to questions and quickly dealt with issues that arose. Paul R (former Mayor).

First off SmartBuild has been amazing and I couldn't recommend them more! I recently had my roof replaced and they did a fantastic, quick, and clean job. Some specs- an extremely old roof 35+ years old, a good amount of rot, steep slopes, lots of skylights, and new gutters/vents needed- yet none of this deterred them or the quality of work they provided. After getting quotes from half a dozen other companies SmartBuild offered the fairest and best price for the job and were always extremely up front about what needed to be done and why. I come from a construction family back in the Midwest and SmartBuild put me at ease with any questions or concerns I had. (Extra bonus- my life long contractor dad approved!) The work was completed in a timely manner and the crew was extremely friendly, professional, and cleaned up every last bit of material when finished. Harris and Abe specifically were great and assisted consistently throughout the process. I will definitely be keeping them in mind for future projects and recommend that you do the same!

I have a building in SF that had an old roof that needed to be replaced. Unfortunately there were already 3 layers of shingles.
I got 3 bids. SmartBuild had the most reasonable quote. They were registered, insured and guaranteed their work.
This was not an easy job as the roof has quite an incline (as you can see from the pictures) and is right next to adjacent buildings on both sides.
Some of the debris from the tear down of the old roof fell into the neighbor's yards and scraped the exterior walls. But SmartBuild came and cleaned up the messes and repainted the walls.

SmartBuild finished in a timely manner and the roof now looks great! And they didn't charge me extra for tearing down the 3 layers.

Finding a good roofer was a challenge especially after weather flare ups. I've had my fair share of experiences with construction companies. But let me tell you, SmartBuild was my favorite that I've worked with. To start with my old roof had old shingles on it and to make matters worse some shingles were damaged in a storm. I was left with no choice but to replace it since it was the end of the road for the roof. They came out within short notice with a fair priced bid and did my roof replacement faster than the other guys could. The quality was so great I decided to just start my kitchen remodeling project with them too because that was on my list for a long while and finally it felt like it's time.

Both were done excellent. I might be a tad unpredictable at times but they worked me through that and made sure everything went smooth. I can confidently vouch for their work, highly recommend them!

AMAZING WORK!!! I just got my roof finished this week and I just had to write this review. By far hiring SmartBuild to replace our roof was the best decision my husband and I could have made. It's been a few months and we knew we had to replace our old deteriorating shingles sooner rather than later. It was so difficult for us to find the right company and we had requested several quotes and estimates from several places, but SmartBuild really came up on top with their fair pricing, expertise and excellent customer service. What stood out the most was that they listened to our concerns and were extremely responsive through out the entire process, and went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied along each step. They did such an amazing job on our roof and used high-quality materials and craftsmanship, I'm extremely impressed. I highly recommended their services as they truly know what they are doing and giving you nothing but the best!
