RUN as fast as you can from Tim Walsh. He is not a man of his word, ever.
Professionalism and Communication are non-existent skills
* Does not call if he is running late or even if he plans on showing up
* You must initiate ALL communication, typically text, and if he does reply you cannot believe what he tells you
* We heard ""I'm on the way"" - never showed more than once
Zero consideration - for us or our goal which he promised would not be a problem. Tim did not call or text to let us know he was here he jumped our fence to get into the backyard; this of course sent our dog into a barking frenzy and rightfully so. She knew someone jumping her fence was not the way things were supposed to work. This happened on 3 different days.
Timeline - Agreed upon schedule:
* Start on Tuesday, August 20th - clear the lawn and set the form for the slab
* Wednesday, August 21st - stain the fence and pour the concrete
* Thursday August 22nd - remove forms and clean up
Actual work (not a schedule - it was hit or miss)
* Friday, August 23rd - came late in the day to stain the fence
* Saturday Aug. 24th - cleared the grass and set the form for the concrete.
o When he left he said he would be back on Monday to pour; leaving us with a mess and exposed rebar; not safe
* Mon. Aug. 26th - Poured the concrete.
The last thing he was committed to doing was to remove the forms used for our concrete slab; that was to be done on Thursday, a week after our original completion date.
My husband worked to remove them today, Friday August 30th.
Quality of work - I'm pretty sure a teenager could Google how to do this and do a better job. We requested a broom finish on the 9 x 12 concrete slab he built; the finish is more like pebbles and divots. Where the slab meets the existing patio there is a dip of about 1/2' , not safe at all.
On the existing patio there are many spots/clumps of concrete.
He broke a decorative garden item that is glass and not near where he was working or dragging the water hose or setting up the concrete mixer. Of course, we did not notice it before he left for the day and of course he has not returned.
Job site clean up was a disaster because he did not show up to do it. Concrete and stone were left throughout our yard. I'm sure we'll be cleaning it up for months to come. We have found splashes of concrete on the house and the fence.

On time-No!
Comunication- No, doesn't return calls. Chooses to send texts but not often following up immediately when you are waiting for that call!
Execution of contract- does not complete tasks timely, leaves debris & equipment in front yards & backyards. Leaves excess supplies & screws & nails in driveways, yards and wherever this fall to the ground.
Leaves ceilings & points where materials are installed together uncaulked. Leaves doors installed unsecured with doorknobs not functional.
Cuts trim to install doors but does not fix trim.
Tim Walsh & Smart Renovations left us very disappointed. Though the install took alot longer than planned, we started in March & they still have details on each area ofvthe install to follow up on. Yet no returned calls, no texts back. No communication back from Tim or his partner Hannah, he named in conversation to me.
Tim talks a good game on experience in the field of construction. And sure in some days on our job he showed it. But when he was not managing our site & left it to his crew, the execution was not up to par. We paid for good service & got, unfortunately, someone who cashed the check & bailed when we had about 3 days of finishing details.
Tim ecen instructed me to write out a list of things that I saw that still needed to be done. He said he would address it. He sent one of his guys to do a perimeter covering to the base of our deck. Then when I followed up with him in text telling him the ""punchlist he requested was still outstanding, he pointed out how he thought his crewman had done it all. Really, nor good management implying the crewman was at fault!
Did I say disappointed? Frustrated, the job overall, just drops to subpar as too much remains incomplete, materials laying about my yard, supplies that Tim said were ordered but failed to appear, skirting details that were to be added to the stairs & surround remain incomplete.
And a contractor who needs to have his license reviewed- DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE- review your options before hiring Smart Renovations to do your job. We ended up with a nice decks with missing details, a vinyl front porch with missing parts to call it finished, a nice paint job on the front & surround(though the windows had to be pryed open weeks later), two joists repaired that seem alright, a backdoor installed that I can see light through the upper edge, a french door installed that still has exterior base details incomplete, both doors having only had one coat of paint, a screen door installed that didn't receive a closure installed & an excuse that Lowes was out of hooks that day, though I found & bought one two days later.
This business can only receive my lowest designation. There are too many outstanding details that remain incomplete & unfinished. The security & safety of several of tasks remains questionable. For these reasons, my family is disappointed in our choice of this business!
And the lack of follow up & communication really should receive a negative number, in my opinion!
