Skyline Energy Savers
Company Overview
We at Skyline Energy Savers prioritize the energy efficiency of your home. Since 1988, our mission has been to make homes more comfortable and cost-effective with energy-efficient solar panel installations. Our professional team works alongside you to discover the ideal solution, offering a no-cost consultation and an honest breakdown of your choices and financing opportunities. With your needs in mind, let’s collaborate to help you save money while also supporting our environment.
Skyline Energy Savers began as a window installation company, focusing on double-pane windows for older residences. Afterward, we added more energy solutions, like HVAC systems, insulation, tankless water heaters, and whole house fans. In the end, we transitioned into the leading energy saver: SOLAR! We can help you produce your own electricity, which surpasses just saving energy. Now, we offer new financing options to make solar accessible to nearly everyone. Don’t wait any longer.
Mort, the proprietor of Skyline Energy Savers, works with his wife, Catrina. As a general contractor, he constructed numerous homes throughout California. In 1988, with rising energy costs, they identified a demand for helping individuals save on their energy bills. They initially focused on double-pane window installations for older homes before branching out into HVAC, insulation, tankless water heaters, and whole house fans. All of these services were valuable. Yet, when solar energy became accessible for the typical homeowner, Skyline shifted its focus to renewable energy. Solar systems are now their primary focus.

The owner Mort told me the same type of sales pitch that he told to some of the other folks that gave Skyline a bad rating. Sold me a 2k system for almost 17k on a ""cash deal."" I found out when I received my ""trueup"" bill of almost 4K, that a 2k system was hardly worth the 17k that I paid and that he charged about double what it was actually worth.
Mort was the first person I called after I got the bill at the end of the year, and he pretended like these trueup charges were a shock to him as well. I later found out that The owner of a solar company not knowing about trueup charges is like an auto mechanic not to knowing what an engine is.
We've since moved and found most other solar companies that offer twice as big of a system for the same price.
Shame on me for not shopping around and shame on the owner Mort, for grossly overstating what the system could do and not fully explaining that I would be getting a whopping PGNE bill (trueup charges) at the end of the year.
Learn from my mistakes, shop around and avoid this company!
I had a whole house fan installed and it was done very quickly and has been working great for three years now. I didn't really shop around the price so not really sure if I got a good deal or not but I'm satisfied with all other aspects of the process.
I was called by a computer with a spoofed phone number, then transferred to a person with a thick accent who switched me to a man named Doug claiming to be with Home Solar Solutions, a solar brokerage. Home Solar Solutions is not the real name and no name like that is registered. Doug set me up with Skyline. I would not do business with a company that hires telemarketers that break a bunch of laws including the Do Not Call list. If you call the 800 number on their web page you will hear ads for all kinds of things.
Jane H.I bought 8 panels from Skyline Energy Savers. I was told that 6 would cover 80% of my electricity usage. As part of my deal they threw in an extra one so I got 8. I was told this would cover 80, 90 or 100 % of my electricity usage. I was thrilled. I felt blessed. They got me financing for $12,000 and I paid it up front, hoping to see zero or little energy charge. Imagine my surprise when SMUD told me that my panels only averaged 20% of my usage! My bills feel just as large. This is insane and a rippoff. Don't go with Skyline. $12,000 for 20%??? That's no deal. Bad company. They gave me false promises.
David M.I had checked into solar and I was quoted a ridiculously astronomical amount of money. I had decided not to peruse solar but, recently a close friend had told me about his experience. How the staff at Skyline Energy Savers were friendly, knowledgeable and seemed to possess a genuine understanding of the consumer. I went out on a limb and decided to give them a call. I called them on a Saturday afternoon and they called me just shortly there after. I with Mort who set up a consultation a few days later. During the consultation he explained to me the inner workings of solar and then offered several financing options. He explained to me how I could maximize my savings while having the ability to write my system off each year. After he left I did some research and I was sold. Later on during the week the installers were there putting panels on my roof. The process was far faster than I expected. The staff even explained the solar components as they were installing them. I couldn't be happier. I am always on my app checking to see my solar production now. Can't wait to do my taxes....which is a first. Thank you Mort for being straight forward and extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend Skyline and to anyone. They are straightforward and no nonsense. It is something that as a veteran I appreciate.
Robin E.Skyline Energy Savers is very professional, courteous and prompt. Their customer service as well as their sales dept. and installation technicians went above and beyond. Their solar services far exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this company.
John W.All I can say is BUYER BEWARE.
I heard their radio ads that said that a person could pay off their solar system in five years. So I called them and made an appointment to have someone come explain it to me.
My wife and I had two meetings with Skyline Energy's fast talking, high pressure salesman. At the end of the second meeting we were shown a system that we were told would reduce our bills from PGE. I said that if I was going to pay for solar, I wanted to not pay anything to PGE. We were then shown a system that we were told would not only provide enough energy to not pay PGE anything but would create excess energy that PGE would credit to our account.(""our meter would run backwards"").
In addition, because we would be generating so much electricity, we were sold a tank-less water heater. We were told that we would have instant hot water at all outlets and we would never run out of hot water. We would save money because the water heater would not have to keep running keeping the water hot.
We went ahead with it all. The installers were on time and did a good job of installing the solar panels and the water heater.
As we started using the solar system we had to jump thru some hoops with PGE getting them to acknowledge that we had a solar system. Then it was a couple of more months before we saw any change in our bills.
Imagine our surprise when we started getting PGE bills showing ""true up"" amounts in the hundreds of dollars. This means that at the end of the year we were going to have to pay a large lump sum to PGE for energy we used over and above what our solar system generated.
At the end of the 1st year we had a bill of over 800 dollars that we had to pay to PGE on top of the cost of the solar system. The previous year our PGE bill totaled $1560 for the year. So with a saving of $760 a year there is no way to pay off this system in five years.
It would take us almost 20 years to pay this solar system off. Had be know this information we would not have made the investment.
Now for the tank-less water heater: We do not get instant hot water at our faucets but have to wait as much time or more than with our old water heater. We can not turn on more than one faucet at the same time or we lose water pressure to the point that one will only be a trickle. In addition, when a faucet is turned on (hot or cold) the water heater makes whistling noises. All of these things did not happen with our old water heater.
These issues have been brought to the attention of the owner of Skyline Energy and he has come to the house several times trying to fix these issues. To date they have not been fixed.
Skyline did add two more panels to our system for free but it still does not replace our PGE bill.
The owner told us that the system was not designed to ""replace"" the PGE bills but just to reduce it by providing enough energy to offset the top tier cost of our PGE bill. That is not what our understanding was from the fast talking, high pressure salesman that was at our house.
We feel that we were swindled, duped, hoodwinked.
Be careful with these folks. Get in writing exactly what the system is suppose to do.
Skyline Energy Savers was informative, helpful and quick to respond to all of my questions. I had received bids from other ""big"" Solar companies who had underlying contracts, prices, and a 4 month waiting period for install. Mort and Catrina Martin of Skyline Energy Savers were amazing! They were honest, up front, and didn't ""over sell"" me a system. They set me up with quick, fast, interest free financing, and a low payment. From consult to install- 3 weeks!! They handled the forms, etc.. I now own my system, not lease it, and my savings are monumental! I pay less per month to own this system than I paid to PG&E! If you are looking for a way to save money on your monthly bill, and create your own energy, I highly recommend you give Skyline Energy Savers a shot! You won't be sorry you did.
This is a terrible business. Once you order the owner will never work with you again. Pushy sales, horrible installation. We went without AC last summer for 3 weeks during the installation. Now we have no heat. We cannot get any service. The service guy sets up a time and always cancels. I would not go with this company. It is a terrible business. You may end up with an expensive piece of lawn art as we have. Right now we have not had heat for 4 days. We tried to get them to come out when we noticed strange noises but they blow us off. Once you buy the product Skyline does not want anything to do with you. This system is only a couple of months old. I am done being nice to them. Calling Consumer Affairs!
These guys came to my door asking if they could set up an apointment to have one of their experts come and take a look at out furnace, insulation, and windows to see if they could save us some money. Who they sent was a fast talking salesman who straight lied to my face. before looking at anything, he started on his pitch with his calculator, running through numbers talking about all the money he was going to save me, and the PG&E programs that he was going to sign me up for to ""Keep PG& E out of my pocket"" when the rates go skyrocketing in January. He told me that ""because I have kids"" he was going to give me a system for $5800, which is 50% the normal price. A deal that he only gives to people who have kids. He then looked at my furnace, and told me that it was burning through and would likely start my house on fire if I didn't replace it right away. He said again, ""You guys have kids, this thing is ready to burn through and start your house on fire. I wouldn't even turn this thing on until you replaced it."" then miraculously he called his boss and there was a cancellation, and they could come out and replace it in 2 days. Like a scared fool, i gave him more information than i like to admit, and signed up to have him see if he could get me approved for the programs.
The following day I called a couple other furnace places to check prices, called PG$E to have them do a safety check of my furnace, and called a friend of mine who installs furnaces for a living in a different part of the state. What I found out was that the average installed price for the furnace he was quoting me was $3000, (without any discount because i have kids.) My friend told me that the furnace wholesales for $1200 and they were basically charging me $4600 for about 6 hours of labor to install it. PG & E came out today and told me that the furnace looked just fine, there were no cracks, or safety issues. The spot that the salesman pointed out to me as fire burning through my furnace was actually a little rust from normal condensation that happens whenever you burn gas, and it was not in any way a safety concern.
When i cancelled my contract with Skyline, the salesman called me back to find out why, saying that it was very irregular, and what everyone else told me was wrong, Then he told me that by calling other places and asking questions i was being very ""aggressive"" and tried to make me feel bad for basically not being an idiot.
Bottom line... I do not have any faith in anything these folks tell me anymore. Their salesman lied to my face, invoked the names of my children to scare me into signing up for a contract that was half his normal price... and at the same time double everyone elses.
