Kelly Shawhan, a former U.S. Marine Corps Captain, has been a contractor for more than 20 years. He graduated with honors from Miami University of Ohio, referred to as ""the Yale of the Midwest,"" thanks to a full military scholarship. He was a first alternate for the Olmsted scholarship and held numerous positions around the world. He was among a select few Marines chosen to instruct at the Army Artillery School at Ft. Sill, OK. Following his military service, he spent the past twenty years in construction, most recently specializing in solar energy.

John Almond has been a business leader for 20 years, specializing in construction for over a decade. He redirected his attention to renewable energy, seeing it as the future and a perfect match for his talents.

This review isn't for the company as a whole ( they don't deserve more than 1 star at best. This review is solely for Ben Stewart, the tech who made it his mission to get our panels back up and running. We bought a house in July of 2023 that advertised fully paid off solar panels and little to no electric bill. After closing escrow, we discovered that our panels had not been communicating with the inverter since July of 2019 and were therefore basically useless. We spent weeks trying to get this fixed with Semper Solaris and nothing. It wasn't until Ben came out to take a look at our inverter that we finally got somewhere. We were told a new inverter would be here and ready to be installed in 5-7 days. So I checked back in with Semper Solaris after a week and nothing. Called again a week later, nothing. So I went direct to Ben, he found out our inverter had been at the warehouse for almost two weeks. So he put us on his schedule and came out the next day. Unfortunately the inverter they ordered for us didnt communicate with our panels so he made it his mission to get us a new inverter asap. Mind you, this was all in the middle of dealing with tropical storm Hillary. Within two days he got us our new inverter and after two months we are back up and producing. He single handedly carry's this company on his back.

The company definitely takes their time on scheduling, and then was delayed due to possible rainy days. Once they proceeded and finished the roofing portion of it, insisted on payment. They still had to reinstall my solar and they reassured me that it would be completed within the next couple of days.
It's been 6 weeks! I have called Customer Service at least every other day. When I finally got a call for a date it was to be installed, they were a no show.
Back to calling Customer Service and it seems they are trying and they're not getting anywhere either. Very dissatisfied with this company.

This review has been long overdue, my Solar was installed in October 2022. But I wanted to just write how smooth and flawless was my project from Semper Solaris, from the Sales... Erica Powell should be promoted she has sold me on the first word that came out of her mouth... she was very knowledgeable and very professional, answered all of my questions and to this day.. when I needed assistence with filling for my solar incentive Erica still extended help tirelessly. Which goes to show, the company and it's staff are here not just to sell but to support the whole process. Instalation, Inspection and turning on my Solar Power was a very smooth and exciting process. Now I am a proud owner of my very own renewal energy.... You should too! And hire Semper Solaris, I forgot to mention that they give discounts for Military and healthcare workers like me... Oh and their Solar Panels are US made. Quality speaks volumes...

I called for a quote on batteries and the consultant who told me he is not a salesman but repeatedly telling me he is THE consultant and he talked to me abt adding 10 additional solar panel on my roof. Thts RED FLAG #1. #2 He told me my solar panels not producing - he was looking at my SCE meter and said it's not spinning (hello, it's a cloudy day). I know I've problem with my solar right now and still waiting for repair but it's still producing. RED FLAG #3 He spoke super highly of his company and bashed the company tht installed my solars and said the problem with people getting cheap solar installed and blah blah blah. Hey, I paid $13K ++ CASH 9 years ago (should be approx $22-23K before rebate and discount) and Thts abt the price then for a small system. RED FLAG #4 He asked me for a glass of water. Lol. I'm still scared of COVID and I was scrambling looking for a disposable cup. RED FLAG #5 He wants to use my home network password to get into his laptop. Tht really made me super uncomfortable. RED FLAG #6 He should wear a mask - I can see his spit when he talked. RED FLAG #7 He just looked at one SCE bill which was last month when there was not much sun and rain a lot. How can u just look at one bill? Worst of all, RED FLAG #8, he talked over me and very difficult for me to get 2 sentences out in a row, let alone one. Not a listener at all. Just yelping. I've to tell him, wait, please listen. I could not even finished my line, he interrupted again and again. I finally gave up my mouth on him. RED FLAG #9 I told him tht I was confused when he told me my system not working and when he looked at my SCE bill, he said oh it's working and blah blah blah. Then, middle of the conversation, he contradicted himself again. Or, other times refused to answer to my question. So, I asked again. Can you tell me once and for all, is my system working? Because what he said did not match what the monitoring portal showed and what Edison showed. He said and I quote, 'I don't know what Edison is doing?' I'll look at ur meter outside again. I did not get a final answer from him but what I can tell from today when the sun is high up and shining, it's sure spinning like kz (even my eyeballs spinning with it and I can't read the numbers, I've to videotaped it, hope my neighbors won't think I'm kz videotaping the wall); and on the Edison meter, it showed Code 82 with negative number that is -2.6 meaning it's generating and the arrow shooting to the left side meaning getting power from the solar panel. I get more answers from YouTube than from him. Oh btw I aldy learnt quite a bit b4 I called Semper to come and give me a quote for the battery power wall, not adding solar panel. RED FLAG #10 I asked to see their monitoring page and he can't show to me. RED FLAG #11 I asked to see pictures of equipment and he can't show me. He did not even tell me the brand until he was ready to walk to his car. I know Enphase brand. He told me to google it. If u asked for $30k for just 10 panels to add 3.7kw to my assisting system, show me ur products. I'm not convinced I need tht much power, to a total of 8.2 kw for one resident only. My lifestyle changed since Dec last year as shown on my Edison bill. Jan this year onwards will be different. Did he listen? No. I can't even talk. RED FLAG #12 My sister does not have solar and her house is as big as mine with husband in her home, she told me her bill is $8-9 per month and winter month is $90-120 and she showed me her bill. I'm still questioning tht and I told her Solar Company will be out of business if ppl have ur kind of Edison bill. She has the summer plan and I told her the $180 plan will not shrink my bill to $8. Well I decided to apply for tht anyways. I don't know her secrets. Well maybe I should completely change all lights to LED for one and don't sleep with TV on or the lights on. And, don't let my AC and heater on 24/7 for sure. And, go ez on my laundry. RED FLAG #13 He said something abt Asians love to make additions to their home and something like did not get approval from inspector blah blah blah. I told him tht I don't know abt tht. Btw, I'm Asian American. Yes, I don't have the same skin color as him. Be careful- ppl will feel offended by tht statement. RED FLAG #13 I'm aware of the NEM 3.0. I just pretend tht I did not. I caught him regarding referring him as sales and I said, I thought u r consultant and not sales. Caught him by surprise and I did not repeat it for him when he asked me. I know the dateline for the NEM 3.0. He said, in one week have to send application for the NEM. I said I don't like pressure. Oh it's up to u blah blah blah. Well, finally I thank u for ur time and I appreciate tht regardless. However, I'm worried abt the information u gave me and the confusion u caused me. Maybe u should talk less and listen more .... Be patient!

I have been doing my due diligence, by interviewing solar companies and collecting bids for an large solar, reroof and HVAC project on my home. Customer service and quality are my number one selection criteria.

Semper Solaris was my 6th and final bid appointment.

I left my office early, to meet with the rep. The rep arrived early and called me to let me know he arrived. I said ""great, I'll be right out to go up on the roof with you (I have a single story, completely flat roof).

The rep said we don't go on the roof--I asked how he could possibly assess what my reroof, roof-mounted HVAC system and solar needs without going onto the roof? All of the other Solar company reps walked the project with me and discussed my needs and took copious notes. This company refused--which tells me that my time was wasted and Semper Solaris is not a serious company.

I politely wished the rep a good day and cancelled my appt. I want to deal with tradesmen, not salesmen, when having work done on my home.

$75-80k job lost for Semper Solaris--bummer for them.

Wow! What a great solar panel experience from start to finish. I particularly want to point out what a great job Hans Rheinheimer, the sales consultant did. He was extremely patient and thorough and set reasonable expectations for cost, timing, and solar production. I shopped around a fair amount, and had one bid that was lower than Semper Solaris. It was the professionalism and integrity that Hans showed that convinced me to go with them. I also really appreciated the regular project updates I received. Each step was listed along with the expected time frame for the step. Some of them were broad, like building permits 2-10 weeks, but knowing the best and worst case really helped set expectations. And they provided regular emails and phone calls so I was never in the dark. Overall, a 5+ rating. I'm very pleased!

After 20 years with our original AC unit finally took a fatal dump! I found Semper Solaris on Facebook. I like the fact that it's a veteran owned company. They are very customer service oriented. The wife is happy now that the entire house is cool regardless of the triple digit heat in the Inland Empire.
