""POOR JOB"", is too kind of words. Fraud and dishonesty is more like it. My son and I contracted with Brian Whitsitt of Sea Island Residential for 3 inches of spray foam insulation in one 10x10 room. Myself an engineer, 3"" is what I what I designed for and wanted, and what was agreed upon in writing per written proposals --- one to me Roger, and one to my son Daniel. The job resulted in only about 1"" of insulation, if that, as documented in photos and measurements. As I was out of town at the time the job was done, and not being onsite in order to inspect and approve the final product immediately, Mr. Whitsitt requested from our trusting son immediate payment in full, who as a young business owner, trusted what he was being asked to do and so complied and released the check. Shortly thereafter, even himself feeling he was ""taken"" with something not looking right (thickness installed vs. contracted for), my son had Mr. Whitsitt return upon which time he sprayed a token additional amount, barely close to even achieving a final 1"". Mr. Whitsitt went on to tell him (not me) how he was losing money on the job, and succeeded in intimidating our son to write him an additional check in the amount of $250, over and above the initial contract price of $1750, already previously paid as noted. How someone in good conscience can operate a business is unbelievable. Upon my return to town, looking at the job and speaking with Mr. Whitsitt myself, he is 100% adamant that no further work will be done to comply with the contract even though paid in full, and with an additional $250 ""intimidation"" amount. Mr. Whitsitt further notes to me that our son ""signed off"" on the job as complete (which our son disputes), for which nothing exists. Also noted as missing per the contract, is the Lifetime Warranty which was to have been provided and still not has been to date, so we have no idea of what it says. As a business which has advertised in writing that (one of) their ""areas of expertise"" is spray foam insulation, can this sound right? Is it too much to ask for a contractor nowadays to have integrity and provide what was supposed to be provided at the dollar amount agreed upon, especially with everything cover in writing? Nothing more is wanted than to get the paid-for 3 inches of insulation, and relief on the extra $250 ""intimidation"" money. This cannot look good to any reputable business owner. Do not be fooled by the words he has written about himself / his company: ""We are committed to excellence in every aspect of our business. We uphold a standard of integrity bound by fairness, honesty, and personal responsibility. Our distinction is the quality of service we bring to our customers from start to finish along with extensive knowledge of our trades, as well as our overall professionalism."" None of this is true in the least. This is honesty? Finally, anyone of interest who might be inclined to question exactly what went on with Sea Island Residential and Brian Whitsitt, is welcome to contact the writer at email [email protected] or phone 716-601-9712.
