I hired David Salter of Salter's Construction November 2019 to replace the roof on my house &porch after I had to make an insurance claim.
David was hardly ever at my house. He came in the mornings to drop off his one-man crew & would stop by one or two times during the day to check in. After the job was finished I began noticing trash &nails ALL OVER my yard. I pointed out that I could see screw holes in the new roof. He apologized and said he would come back to run a magnet and caulk the holes.
TWO WEEKS LATER - He text us that he had rolled the whole yard for nails &fixed the holes. I ran my cheap magnet when I got home &found 200+ nails still in my DRIVEWAY.
He also took the metal that was leftover. When I confronted him about it he said ""he didn't realize I wanted it"" &brought it back. The amount of leftover metal was suspicious.
The first good rain we had after that I noticed water running down the wall on my screened-in porch. David came by &said he fixed it. I climbed up to take a look &that's when I realized that he did not even roof the front porch which explains all the leftover metal. The front porch was part of his bid, but we decided to let it go if he fixed the leak.
After more rain I noticed a large spot of black mold in an extra bedroom. A heavy rain came &suddenly water was running down the walls. He came &cut out the ceiling where the black mold was &put a tarp on the roof. He said he was going to let it dry and would be back the next day. He said he thought he had the leak fixed.
TWO WEEKS LATER&still no word from David. After threatening him with legal action, he returned to my house to ""take another look"" Then he took down his tarp&prepared to leave. I asked him if he found the leak. His answer was,""I have no idea where the leak is coming from""&he assured he would be back to work on it some more. He has now informed me that he will not - that someone else is responsible for this damage.
It rained again the other day&there is water pouring into our extra bedroom.

Friends and neighbors, please share this post so that this guy does not rip anybody else off.

I hired David Salter months ago (November 2019) to replace the roof on my house and porch after I had to make an insurance claim. He was the only roofer to give me a price within the budget allowed by my insurance company. I know that cheapest usually does not mean best. I know better. But I went to school with David (thought we could trust him) and we couldn't afford to add our own money at the time, so we went with him.

David was hardly ever at my house. He came in the mornings to drop off his one-man crew, and then would stop by one or two times during the day to check on the job. After the job was finished and David had left, I began noticing nails and trash ALL OVER my yard, particularly in my driveway (PIC ATTACHED). I also pointed out that I could see screw holes in the new roof. He apologized and said he would come back to run a magnet and caulk the holes.

I had to send him pictures some of the screws & nails before he would come & roll the yard with a magnet. He assured me he'd gotten them all in the dumpster. My pregnant wife & I picked up well over 200 screws & nails with my magnet before he would believe us & said he would come to roll the yard with his magnet.

TWO WEEKS LATER - He made sure to stop by when I was not at home and text me that he had rolled the whole yard for nails and fixed the holes. Just for fun, I ran my cheap magnet when I got home and found over 200 more nails still in my DRIVEWAY. (PIC ATTACHED)

He also made sure to take home all of the extra metal that was leftover. When I confronted him about it he said ""he didn't realize I wanted it"" and brought it back. When I saw just how much metal it was, I began to get suspicious.

The first good rain we had after that (January), I noticed water running down the wall on my screened-in front porch (VID ATTACHED). David came by and said he fixed it. I climbed up to take a look, and that's when I realized that he did not even roof the front porch (which explains all the leftover metal). The front porch was part of his bid, but we decided to let it go if he fixed the leak.

Fast forward to Memorial Day weekend. I noticed a large spot of black mold in an extra bedroom (PIC ATTACHED). A heavy rain came, and suddenly water was running down the walls. He came in the middle of that week and cut out the ceiling where the black mold was, and put a tarp on the roof. He said he was going to let it dry and would be back the next day. He said he thought he had the leak fixed.

TWO WEEKS LATER and still no word from David. After threatening him with legal action, he returned to my house to ""take another look."" Then he took down his tarp and prepared to leave. I asked him what was the problem? His answer was, ""I have no idea"" but he assured he would be back to work on it some more. He has now informed me that he will not - that someone else is responsible for this damage.

It rained again today. The final video in comments is today, of water pouring into my extra bedroom. I'm making this post to alert citizens of the surrounding areas that this guy is a fraud and a liar.

I've been informed that there is another David Salter that does construction in town, and I hear he does good work. I'm sorry that you share a name with this guy. I'll post a photo of the perpetrator in the comments as well, to avoid confusion

I will be taking legal action, but I wanted to share this with you all in hopes that you will save money and not end up with a lake in your house. See you in court, punk
