I hired them to re-tile a shower. They told me the job would take ""10 days to 2 weeks."" It was completed 6 months later. Yes, 6 months.

I won't describe all the problems since this should be warning enough. Supervision and project management were completely lacking. Craftsmanship was poor. Most of the workers were polite, but overall it was a painful, unpleasant experience.

I hired protractor to redo all of our floors, our kitchen and a few other small projects. John the owner came and met with us but then once we hired them we were handed off to his son Ryan. Ryan never seemed to even read the contract. I had to update him on what had been done and what needed to done each time he came which I think over 5 months was a total of 3 times? I had to manage and stay on top of everything myself asking for things to be done over and over again. I was told our project would take 6 weeks it took 5 months. They reshaped our island and made it uneven so when the countertop people they had us use Blue Granite came to install it didn't fit and they installed it anyways. It looked terrible and took month to get the issue resolved with me having to constantly check in. Ryan was removed from our project and we were reassigned to Cori and it was no different. They did bring workers and they did fix things when they were done incorrectly (if i pointed them out and complained) with no additional cost to us but it was an insane amount of work and time on my part.

I writing this review with the hope that the owners can teach some manners and people skills to their employees, assuming that the owners don't have similar temperament.

I am a first time buyer of a second hand house. It is under contract and the building inspectors are coming to have a look. I wanted to take that opportunity to get a contractor to check the possibility of adding a half bathroom. My budget was 15K. I wanted to do all repair and modifications before moving my family, assuming that I buy the house. The extra modification wasn't going to be a factor in my decision to purchase the property,

I called John a few times and left him a message. His associate Philip returned my call. I relayed all the info that I mentioned above. He straightaway asked what my budget was and he said that this was major work around 30K without even knowing anything about the plan or location of the future addition. I said that my budget was in the range of 10-15K. This was based on my own online research which mentioned the cost of adding a half bathroom as between 5-15K. He then said that he can't take the job if it is not in his range(above 30K). Then he proceeded to insult me, basically saying I was flying for information and not really sure about the physical and administrative work needed for adding a half bathroom, before hanging up.

I then called another contractor based in Spicewood and said the same info bracing myself for another round of insult. Surprisingly, the nice lady apologized that they actually only take up major contract work since they are incredibly busy in local projects. Then she went on to provide a contact number for another contractor who has an office closer to the property. I thanked the lady and called the number and spoke to another nice lady who mentioned the same concerns as Philip but then said that she is willing to come by and assess if it would require all the administrative hassle.

It doesn't take a lot of effort to politely refuse a business opportunity. Austin is very hot now and everyone's busy, I get it. But I want the satisfaction that the few thousand dollars I spend goes to someone who deserves it....

Spoke on Saturday; the crew showed up Sunday and worked without a break until the siding job was complete.

My experience has been nothing but professional and completed to the highest standard, personally insured by the owner himself. The level of customer service and the attention to detail is second to none. In an industry, highly saturated with Mediocre at best service, Protractor is a cut above.
