This is the absolute worst experience I have EVER had with a roofer--or with any type of contactor, for that matter.

I hired Premier South in April 2022 to install a new roof on my double. My initial quote was for a little over $10k. There ended up being an additional $1k charge for damages they found after removing the shingles.

A couple of months later, my tenant called to let me know the ceiling in the bedroom was leaking. This bedroom was probably an addition, and there was no plumbing above it, so I knew the issue had to be the roof. I called Matt LeFeaux of Premier South and asked him to go out and take a look.

Matt was dismissive of my concerns, stating that it couldn't be the roof and was most likely an issue with the HVAC.

I called an HVAC company. They came out and told me the HVAC was fine, and that the issue had to be the roof, as there were two areas in the roof that were concave (which definitely indicates a problem).

I called Matt again. He sent someone out who ""figured out what the problem was and fixed it,"" but Matt did not explain what that problem was or how it was fixed.

During the next heavy rain, my tenant again reported water coming in through the bedroom ceiling. I called Matt again, who was again dismissive and suggested I call a different HVAC company. Hmm...the leaking is caused by the HVAC, but it only happens when it rains?

So I called another HVAC guy. He charged me over $100 to ALSO tell me that the HVAC was fine, and that the roof still had two concave areas that obviously shouldn't be there.

By this time, my poor tenant had buckets set up in the bedroom, and the ceiling was nearly ruined. I called Matt again to try and report what the second HVAC company had found. He interrupted me and started once again telling me how the roof was perfectly fine. When I asked him to stop interrupting me, he hung up and refused to answer any more of my calls.

So my husband took over. After talking to HIM, Matt apologized for our trouble and promised to send people out to install tarps as soon as the rain stopped, and that they'd also come out and figure out what the problem was as soon as they could schedule it.

They covered a small section of the roof with tarps, but it wasn't enough. During the next heavy rain, the ceiling began leaking again. I tried calling; Matt had apparently blocked my number, so my husband again had to be the one to deal with the issue. Which is absolutely RIDICULOUS.

At my husband's request, Premier South did send out some guys who covered the ceiling with a larger tarp. Thank god; by this time, the bedroom ceiling looked ready to collapse.

Eventually, they sent more workers out, who removed a section of shingles. Supposedly, they found fire damage in that area which they had initially missed. Those repairs, of course, should have been made BEFORE installing the Ice and Water underlay and shingles.

They sent us an additional bill for $4000. This bill included the amount for the additional work that should have been done to begin with, PLUS the work involved in removing the shingles and Ice and Water underlay and replacing them the 2nd time.

My husband called from his phone. When Matt answered, I explained that we had no problem paying for the additional work, but that the cost of the Ice and Water and shingles for the 2nd installation was THEIR responsibility, as it was THEIR fault for neglecting to do the job correctly at the outset.

Matt told me that they would not cover the cost of these items, nor would they reimburse us for the ceiling repairs ($300) or the HVAC bill ($124).

My husband requested an itemized bill for the repairs. The person he spoke with initially said that Premier South ""doesn't do that."" My husband explained that if that was the case, we wouldn't be paying them anything more.

We got our itemized bill. From the $4000 charged we subtracted: (1) the charge for additional shingles and the work time for re-installing them; (2) the additional amount for reinstalling the Ice and Water underlay; and (3) the costs of the ceiling repair and HVAC visit. We then sent them the revised amount.

They weren't happy about this and claimed that the Ice and Water underlay was ""never a part of the original estimate."" Not true; I sent them a copy of the original estimate, which clearly lists it. Then they backpedaled, claiming that they only charged us for a single roll, and that normally, it is only used in the ""valleys"" of the roof, but that for some reason, this damage that they repaired required additional Ice and Water. Yeah. Right.

My advice: do not even THINK about doing business with this company if you're a woman. Even if you're a guy, be prepared for the possibility of shoddy workmanship that will require repairs soon after the work is supposedly finished. And be prepared for them to try and charge you extra for correcting the mistakes that THEY made.
