ROOF REPLACEMENT EXPERIENCE

We recently had to have our roof replaced. I called at least 8-10 companies locally here in Bakersfield. I only got response from 5. That was disappointing. Out of these, I was shocked that 3 of the bids we got were in the $20k -$25k +range! Yikes! And the common response was ""you got a lot of roof"" . Of the companies that responded and did actually come out, they all made it clear from what they could tell visually the plywood was still good except in 1 small area near our porch of which we knew so that would obviously have to be replaced along with some custom cut overhang trusses that were rotted out. If any other damage was found then of course the bid would change but they wouldn't know until they got up there and started tearing off the old roof. The bid on all companies was for a cool roof which would meet California standards. When we side by side compared the bids, it was apples to apples.

The best price was Armstrong roofing. The only thing with them was at the time they were booked out and very busy. That's a good sign because from the Nextdoor reviews on several posts people trust them and they have a lot of credibility in the community with referral business and repeat customers.

The next best price (VERY close 2nd) was Premier Construction. When we sat down with the owner Misael, he was super nice and gracious, and brought his price in line with Armstrong. He could start within a month which was Monday 5/2. Fair enough as we had leaks and we didn't want to wait longer than we had to. They finished completely on 5/12. I believe it would have been sooner except he had to wait a couple days for the inspectors to come out. Everything passed with flying colors. Misael kept his word as far as timing and completed the entire job within the window he estimated. He and his crew showed up every day, very polite, consistent with work, diligent and trustworthy in all they said they would do - and they were super clean! Didn't leave any trash in my front or backyard. No nonsense. The custom cut trusses they replaced are beautiful work and identical to the others we have. All done here onsite. They did a fantastic job with those.

One thing I learned from this experience was seems the companies that advertise and are a bit more fancy-schmancy also seem to have higher overhead - so my guess is that is why they cost more. They aren't necessarily better, just have more advertising costs, golf trips (lol), etc etc which the consumer pays for ultimately in the form of a higher bid. I'm not trying to pay for their fancy coffee machines, tv commercials etc.- I just want the job done at a fair price and with quality workmanship.

We completely recommend Premier Construction ( 661*426*9449 ) based solely on our experience with them. Please include them in your bid pool if you are searching for roofers as we know they will not disappoint.
