We just had the roof on our ranch style house south of Martinez replaced by Planchon Roofing. I rate the overall job quality and business experience as EXCELLENT. I entertained 7 bids and selected Planchon because of the low cost and a positive reference from a golf buddy - I was not disappointed! The job was complicated because I had an existing PV solar array that had to be removed by a certified Solar company (A1 Sun) before the old roof could be stripped off. Planchon and A1 Sun worked seamlessly with one another throughout the entire process. The Planchon crew was on-time, quick and courteous. They had the old roof removed and the new roof installed within 3 days. The bid included minor dry rot repair, new eyebrow vents, a solar tube and all new flashings. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day and conducted a final clean up at the end of the job. They even looked for stray nails that might puncture a tire.
Kudos to Doug, Damon and the entire Planchon crew for a job well done!
Good workmanship.
Quick execution.
Clean work and good cleaning up.
Adaptable in identifying the right solutions.
Very professional interactions.
Joshua M.We just had our roof replaced by the guys at Planchon roofing. I have to say that I'm surprised by the negative reviews. From the moment I called my experience with them was great. They came to provide an estimate on the day I called because they happened to be in the area on another project already. The estimate came when they said it would two days later, and though it wasn't the cheapest bid, it was almost $5,000 less than the highest bid. They also were the most flexible in providing the roofing material that I wanted (I was converting a modified bitumen roof to shingles).
I spoke with Doug Planchon after receiving the estimate in my email and discussed some specific concerns I had, and he agreed to move an existing drain opening that was causing me problems for no extra charge. In addition, they were able to schedule the work for the following week.
The crew arrived on time as scheduled the following week, and it was a full crew. They had my entire roof removed before 10:30 that morning. The new roof was on and complete by the next day at 6:00 PM. On both days the guys stayed beyond 5:00 PM to get as much work done as they could.
They will need to come back to add a second layer of stucco to an area that had to be torn out to install proper flashing at a joint point, but otherwise, the entire project is done. The guys on the crew were very respectful of my home and yard, cleaned up after themselves, and were very friendly. They made sure everything was exactly to my liking and were happy to answers any questions when I had them.
This roof will last for 30 + years, but if I needed a new roof for another property, I would hire these guys again without hesitation... and I can be pretty picky about the work done on my place.
I had Planchon install a tar and gravel roof in 1999. Not only was it the cheapest price by far, but here IT is 13 years later an no problems whatsoever. T & G is good for 15 years so In a couple years I'll be calling Doug, ya think?
Steffy W.It's been three years since Doug's guys have installed the incredibly beautiful roof on our house. As our house have this incredibly steep roof, and the original owner has been ""patchworking"" on it for MANY years, it added a lot of complications to the project. However, Doug's crew finished the job on time and WITHIN budget! it was great.
A few months after the project was completed (when the rainy season hit), we realized that some of the new gutters they put in didn't work well. A quick call brought their gutter out to repair within two days.
Now, no roofing job is perfect, there can always be issues afterwards. This is where it is important to have a reputable company do your roof. Because they'll guarantee their work!! Since the roof have been installed, we've had to call on them twice to fix something. Both times, they were quick to send someone out right away.
I definitely recommend these guys!
Zwolf A. U.No issues. Roof looks great, got it done before a storm came in. Did stucco work and replaced ugly old ventilation units, with low profile pieces. Did a reasonably good job of working around plants which meant a lot of manual labor. Crew was polite and did a generally good job of cleaning up. Price was right. Guaranteed against leaks, so shouldn't be a problem. They have a very good reputation among those I know who've used their service.
Heasoon K.ugh....
go with someone else. there are a bunch of others out there that will probably do a better job. please go on berkeley parents network to get some good recommendations. PLEASE!
in a nutshell.
after roof was done, they left big holes where roof meets the siding of the house. had to ask them to come back to patch up those holes. Doug came in person to drop off the bill without looking at his crews work. so tacky.
asked a highly skilled stucco guy to look at their patch work, and basically they did a horrible job patching it up. basically they put waterproofing material up there and no stucco.
crew inadvertenly unplugged my freezer in the garage, which contained tons of recently bought meat. We probably paid about $300.00 for the food in there. He was only willing to pay 150.00. so lame.
*sigh.... whatever planchon!
Kathryn B.I need new gutters. I called four companies to get estimates. Only one company actually came out when they said they would. Planchon was not that company.
In the meantime, I went to a fundraiser and there were three gift certificates for $200 of work by Planchon roofing. I won all three and there was no indication that they could not be combined. I decided to give them another chance. Their estimator completely flaked on me four times. No phone call to let me know he wouldn't be coming, no call after the missed appointment to reschedule.
If I hadn't had the certificates, I would have given up on them after the first missed appointment. The estimator finally came out after many phone calls on my part to the office. The estimate came back with a note that I could only use one certificate and their quote with the discount was not a significant enough savings for me to go with them. I figured if it was that much trouble just getting an estimate, I am willing to pay an extra $100.00 (plus the money I spent winning the certificates) to go with someone who shows up when they say they will. I am not even willing to give the certificates to people I know because I don't want them thinking I endorse the company. As far as I'm concerned, the fundraiser got a nice donation from me and I learned a fairly expensive lesson.
Gabrielle V.Planchon Roofing is THE company to call for replacing your roof.
Finding a reliable roofer is not easy and after 59 years the roof of the house and garage had to be replaced.
After lots of research on the Web and getting input and names from friends and acquaintances
I had 4 companies on my list. I first went with Planchon Roofing, because this company was recommended by a very finicky friend.
The next day they came out to check the roof and give us a tentative bid. After I received the bid in writing I did not need to go any further. It was supposed to be a 2-day job, but because of the extensive dry-rot (20 hrs to replace the wood alone), it took 4 days. We also had insulation installed and gutters.
The workers were very efficient and quiet (no yelling, blaring radios or wasting time on the phone). They also were meticulous and even painted the ends of the wood to coincide with the color of the house. It was not a rush job.
The price was very reasonable and I recommend this company to everyone.
I highly recommend Planchon Roofing in San Pablo. Their estimator was prompt and provided good information. Owner Doug Planchon checked in regularly with us and with his workers. His slightly crusty, no-B.S. style is refreshing in an age of smooth talkers. The job was completed efficiently and cleanly; the crew took care to clean up and not cause damage to our garden. The office staff was efficient. There were no surprises on the final bill. Good old-fashioned business. Excellent work.
