John Font and/or his team have been to my property four times over the last 20 years and I have been very happy with his services. First, he was called during the rainy season (remember those?) for repairs on an old roof and he came right away, performing some of the repairs during the rainstorm itself. A few years later we replaced our entire roof and he and his team did an outstanding job - excellent workmanship, professional and courteous workers, complete cleanup, etc. The next winter we had some leaky windows, and even though they were unrelated to his roofing job, John made multiple visits to ensure that all of the caulking was patched correctly. Finally, this year a strong windstorm blew away some shingles on our detached garage (which was not part of his original work). I called him, he came the next morning, and the repair was affected a couple of days later, all to my satisfaction.

I've used Palo Alto Roofing for over 15 years.
More than once I've called him in the middle of a downpour (usually the first of the season) and have been able to schedule an appointment at short notice to take care of a leaky roof while it was raining.
John has always done a good job and handled himself with professionalism and cheerfulness. He conducts himself as a member of the community with the attitude of a helpful neighbor. His fees are reasonable. He gives honest appraisals of work that needs to be done and offers tips on how to minimize the cost, including DIY tips on regular maintenance.

I saw the long 1-star review posted by another reviewer and was surprised. When I read it I hesitated to call PA Roofing for my recent leak but decided to call anyway based on my past experience. Again, I was happy with his work. The context can be better understood by reading that poster's other reviews. All angry 1-star reviews. John said that review has devastated his business.

It is also too bad that Yelp's ""fake-review"" filter decided that to filter out most of the good reviews of PA Roofing. My review was (is?) also filtered out but maybe one day the algorithm will decide to display it.

Palo Alto Roofing has always been an outstanding roofing company to work with. They have always been prompt and honest in all of my encounters with them. I I have referred John over the years and to the homeowners I've dealt with afterwards have had nothing but great things to say.
John has also provided me with insights on newer materials (PVC) with a traditional approach to running his business.
Nothing but great experiences, he is friendly, trustworthy and really listens to what my needs are.

To Whom it may concern:
on February 4th 2014, we had a roof leak I called J. Font Roofing, he said he can send a guy out the next day to repair the leak, after the job was done the cost was $425.00. ""The Person who came out at this time told us that it looked like our garage roof needed some repair."" Following this visit we received a solicitor flyer from J.Font Roofing for a free estimate to evaluate our roof, after the inspection there was NOTHING mentioned about the garage roof?
The estimate was for reheating down all edges of our entire roof, cleaning all gutters, and strap down drains, Costs $1.450.00.
After receiving the estimate my wife, Linda wanted to meet with J. Font Roofing Owner on the roof, to go over exactly what he was going to do. When my wife started to ask questions
"" J. Font Roofer said I'm feeling really uncomfortable""
""My Wife questioned him WHY? I need to ask you these questions, because I want to make sure that everything is going to be done correctly and that she was entitled to ask questions"".
Come to find out there was only one strap that needed one replaced screw. we felt that this was miss leading.
Also we were told that all drains would be would be cleaned and flushed out.

Job started on April 11 2014, they were to arrive at 9:00 a.m. but didn't show up until 1:00 p.m. with no notice or call. they left the job after a few hours, and didn't informed us that the job wasn't finished? On April 14, unexpected they returned to the job. We thought the job was finished? My wife informed the worker that after the job was finished she wanted to go back up on the roof to inspect again. She was called to come and inspect the job, along with her she brought our handy man who has been working with us for 20 years. When they got back on the roof, my wife and worker went around and discovered that about half of the roof was only done, and the gutters weren't cleaned. My wife and helper were shocked that the job wasn't done as estimated. The roofer said "" I don't now how I missed so much"".
I told the roofer that to let me know when he finishes so I can come back up to
reinspect. So again I was back on the roof going around showing the roofer the places he had missed again.
Our roof is about six thousand square feet with three different levels, I didn't go to the very top of the roof to inspect that because there wasn't a ladder. But asked the roofer if he went up to the area and cleaned out the gutter and heated down that roof area there? "" the roofer said yes"". I took his word.
The Roofer came down and said that he was all finished and would like a check now, we paid him.

On April 18, my Uncle stopped by who is a retired general contractor, and I was telling him our story about the roofer, Uncle said why don't we go back up on the roof and take a look, when we got back on the roof we discovered that they hadn't cleaned out about 150 ft of the gutters, along with many missed spots. And the roofer lied about going to the top of the roof and heating it down and cleaning out the gutters!! He didn't even go up to this area even once.
Also when he cleaned the drains out instead of bringing a bucket he threw all of the garbage off the roof on to our clean deck area, where we have our patio furniture.

After we discovered countless undone areas as again agreed upon,
my wife called J.Font Roofing the owner, when she tried to explain to him that we had a problem, J.Font Roofing became belligerent and VERY nasty and wouldn't allow her to explain the unfinished work. He continued to yell at her non stop. So she gave up and hung up.

Finally we were able to come to a agreement so J.Font Roofing could come out and see the problem areas. He was to come out to our home on April 24 at 10:00. NO SHOW, NO CALL, he sent the same workers out, we turned the workers away, and told them that we had an appointment with J. Font Roofing at this time my wife and I questioned the worker and asked him why he lied to us and said he did the upper roof? I said to him that he was dishonest, ""the worker agreed he was dishonest"".
Again J.Font Roofing called us after we sent the workers away, to rectify his absence.
We feel he is dishonest.
This is the MOST dishonest Co. I have ever worked with in my life!!!!!!!!
I am 83 years old and I feel that they were trying to take advantaged of a senior citizen
As of, 6/7/2014, Our feelings haven't change!!! about this Co.the owner of Palo Alto Roofing wrote that last BLOGGGGGGG BLOG BLOG BLOG. They did receive a violation letter from the Contractors State License Board. BE AWARE!!

We had a leak in our bathroom ceiling that really got bad during the last storm. I called several different contractors but only two had availability to come out and take a look. The other contractor still hasn't gotten back to me with a quote and was trying to push for me to replace my entire roof. PA Roofing came out within hours, took a look and gave me an estimate. They were able to fit me into their schedule within two working days of the original estimate. The crew was professional, courteous, super quick and left no sign they were even here (other than my repaired roof). John Font (owner) had also suggested some venting to avoid future condensation issues which was also completed at the same time my roof was repaired. I could not be more pleased, as I feel the quality of the work, the timely manner in which the job was completed and the professional friendly manner was AWESOME! I also felt the pricing was really good as I was quite worried about how much the cost would run. I will make sure to recommend John Font and Palo Alto Roofing to everyone and anyone who needs any sort of roof repair. It's really refreshing to find an 'honest' contractor who isn't trying to rip you off. Thank you John, Nancy and crew - you are ROCK STARS!!!!!!

Had a leak on an older flat roof, John had it replaced in a few days with a wonderful new 50 yr PVC roof. Looks great and will be my last roof in that location. Had them back a few months later to add some venting to another roof. Completed on schedule at the quoted price. Would recommend to friends.

I used Palo Alto Roofing for some repairs on our home. He and his men were quick and thorough. They did an excellent job without trying to sell me more work which was not necessary. John came over and explained what the damage was and he explained that some damage may not be visible until they took some shingled off. When more damage was found, his crew came up with a professional repair suggestion at a reasonable cost. They finished the job quick. I will be using them again in the future.
