When there was the severe hailstorm on the east side of town a few years ago, almost every home in our neighborhood had a damaged roof that needed replacement. We were contacted by fly-by-night companies wanting to do ours, but over the year it took us to make this decision, we saw the work they did on other homes in the neighborhood, and it wasn't for us.

We took bids from Tugwell and Pacific West. In the end, we went with Pacific West. Todd was great explaining the ins and outs of roofing and how it had changed in the 20 years since we built our house with upgraded ""40 year"" comp. He also was extremely knowledgeable about competing roofing materials and very enthusiastic about the Malarkey brand he sells.

We did research on Malarkey and talked to the regional rep and everything we found indicated it was an outstanding product, so we decided to go with Pacific West for our roof. However, we upgraded to the thicker comp that had more of a ""shingle"" look and was designed to be more durable like our old ""40 year comp"" was. The extra relief the thickness and color variation in the comp pattern really gives a pleasing look to the roof - even better than the original. The much better comp upgrade only cost a bit more than 10% additional and was well worth it for the great look it gives. He said that most people go with the base comp and don't upgrade, but they're really missing out when it doesn't cost that much more.

The final thing I'll say is Todd did a great job on the vents, and recommended adding two to improve ventilation in Redding's extreme summer heat. He also came back after the job was completed to make sure that we were satisfied and that the city signed off on the job completion.

Overall great experience. The whole thing from teardown to city sign-off took a week, and though it was a very unavoidably loud week, his crew were total pros from what we saw. Based on our experience I can recommend Pacific West without hesitation.
