Nicholas Roofing put a roof on our house about six years ago, and we were very happy with the work and the price. Earlier this year, we had a leak during a heavy storm. I called Jimmy Cosenza, and he agreed to come by at 7:30 am to accommodate my work schedule. Jimmy pulled out his ladder and located the problem quickly. I also asked him to inspect our gutters, which were not operating properly in one area.

Jimmy had a crew come by within a few days, and they fixed the roof and the gutter AT NO CHARGE!! In addition to the great service, Jimmy is extremely pleasant and personable.

Obviously, I give Nicholas Roofing my highest recommendation.

Nicholas Roofing recently put a new roof on my detached garage. Jimmy (the owner) showed up exactly on time to get the info for an estimate. In addition, he also inspected my house roof, which is newer than the garage, and pointed out some minor maintenance that I could perform.

I also got a bid from another reputable company. The prices were close but Nicholas was a bit less expensive. More important, they proposed to replace the existing tar and gravel with modified bitumen; the other roofer proposed a new tar and gravel roof, a proven but messy approach.

The crew arrived on schedule to perform the tear-off, which took a couple of hours in the afternoon, and cleaned up the worksite before leaving. The two key guys returned the next day and installed the new roof. They were obviously immigrants but their English was very good and they were fluent in roofing terminology. They were very courteous, competent and did a good clean-up when they were done.

Here is the best part. Many contractors want some payment before starting a job, others are standing at the door demanding final payment the instant the job is done. Nicholas sent me a bill a week after completing the job. I found this practice, along with their punctuality, to be refreshingly professional. They certainly have the inside track on doing my house roof when the time comes.

OK, I haven't actually had any work done by them yet, but I give them 5 stars for customer service. I've had the owner, Jim Cosenza, out a couple of times to get an estimate -- he's given me great advice on steps I can do myself to alleviate the problem. He's a really nice and pleasant guy, and the office staff always answers my calls right away, calls me back promptly, and are all really pleasant to deal with. I'll definitely use Nicholas Roofing when it comes time to do my repairs.

Nicholas Roofing put a new roof on my house 7 or 8 years ago and they did such a great job then; so when it became clear that the cottage and garage behind the house needed a new roof, naturally I called Jimmy Cosenza, the owner of Nicholas Roofing, to give me an estimate. His price was very reasonable and their timing was perfect for me so I used them again. They did the job in two days, were totally professional and cleaned up well. I had been insistent about not leaving nails and debris because I have a dog and they were very careful to leave the yard clean as a pin. When they finished I asked Jimmy to come look at the roof and reassure me that the job was done right (because I wasn't about to climb up there myself)! He laughed and agreed. Surprisingly, he found a few things he didn't like and sent his guys back out to spend a few more hours on the job! I was pretty impressed that he was so thorough and honest. He knows his stuff and gave me great options for some of the problem areas to keep the temperature even and save energy without spending much money. My only complaint was the noise of guys on the roof, but there was obviously no way around this problem. This company is a gem! I highly recommend Nicholas Roofing.

Four hours after I posted this review, they deposited my check. Yay.

One extra star since I guess that qualifies as a kind of responsiveness, though I still think their front office is a little disorganized and overwhelmed.

You have a hole in the roof into your office and drainage pipe is non-existent... You better pray that you have someone who is quick and skilled..

That's what I got with Nicholas Roofing... Our contractor needed a 4inch drainage pipe put in on our deck/roof in no time flat... Nicholas Roofing swooped in and got the job done quickly.. Crazy.. There was still small window of time they could do work before it rained and they came through in the clutch...

No more Niagra Falls in my office..

One star for being impossible to schedule and very poor at returning calls and keeping appointments.

Maybe their roofing work is great. I'll never know. After multiple interactions and appointments, I went with Montclair Construction.

Wow, I have a apartment building in Oakland that started leaking from the last big storm. I called 3 different roofers from Yelp. I had Jim the owner of Nicolas Roofing come out to give me an estimate to replace it. He came over and inspected the roof and called me back. Explained that the roof was done very well about 10 to 15 years ago and was still in good condition. I told him the roof was leaking in a couple of places. He said that repairing the roof would be a good option and cheaper and should last another 5 years. The other roofers just gave me an estimate and that's it. Didn't bother to give me the option to repair -vs- replacing the roof.

I really appreciate the honesty and information Jim provided and not just looking for the next job!

Called for roof building repair, stated they are to busy to deal with repairs. Ok...so the economy must be getting better??

So good, they never returned my calls for an appointment. I made three calls, and spoke to a receptionist twice. I expected some sort of response, since I thought most contractors are having trouble getting business.
