I asked Nicholas to stop by for a leaky roof repair. I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment, but was extremely happy with my interaction with Nicholas. He spent ~40 minutes with me troubleshooting the leak by inspecting and spraying water. He was not able to have someone stop by very soon to fix the leak, so he went out of his way to tell me how to fix it myself so the approaching rain did not cause more damage. He didn't charge me anything for his time and I will be sure to contact him when I need a new roof.

I scheduled an appointment back in December and Nick did not show up today. I spoke to Scott and he said their other appointments in Oakland cancelled, so he cancelled my appointment. His said he emailed yesterday and that I didn't respond; however, the email was merely a reminder and did not state I needed to respond. This company is flacky and unreliable!

I had a small leak (in a bad place - over my bed) since a year ago fall. A couple of people looked at it but what they tried didn't work and the leak got bigger.


In September, they diagnosed the problem (as cupped shingles) in 10 minutes and the worker spent 20 minutes fixing it. Now that the rains came I was able to test the fix, and lo and behold, dry as a bone.

Lovely family owned business. They were professional, incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and helpful every step of the way. They repaired dry rot, insulated attic, replaced roof, added new gutters and downspouts. All was done in the time frame given, as well as very good clean up. I was the second of 3 of my neighbors, on our small portion of the block, to have work done in the past couple months. Also, several other neighbors have had roofs replaced by them over the past several years. To top it off, the actual amount for final project was less than the estimate. Working with Nicholas Roofing was an absolute pleasure. I've never been so excited with a roofing project as I was with this one.

Owner came out and looked at roof of my house and my studio for some simple maintenance. He took pictures of what was needed. Charged me the minimum amount ($250) for what turned out to be the work of one man for about an hour-and-a half. I have done the same thing myself for 10 years, and a little more thoroughly from what I observed; however I am getting old and figured it would be a good idea to fall off my roof. :) I called the office while the worker was here, and asked if he was doing all he was suppose to. I was assured that he was experienced and good at what he did.

Why the four star review? Primarily, because a different roofer was going to charge me considerably more, and he merely looked at my studio roof from my house roof. He said everything was OK. The Nicholas owner actually went up to the studio roof, and took a picture of what needed adhesive. Roofs are something that most home owners know little about and the work is out of sight. One has to trust the roofing company. Based on my experience, Nicholas Roofing was more careful about inspection and did not try to overcharge me. Business do have many hidden expenses, so I think the bid was fair. I will definitely ask them for a bid for work I need in the future.

Review #125 - 2016

We were looking into getting our roof replaced about 2 years ago when the roof had a small leak. We called a guy from another company to get the leak repaired and he charged us $500 for about 5 minutes of his time. Then last year the leak got even bigger so I'm not sure if he actually repaired it or not.

So, we decided to look for another company who we could trust to replace the whole roof and that's how we ended up with Nicholas Roofing. They were highly recommended by the guys who redid our foundation, because the previous owner of our home, trusted some cheap labor company that went out of business to originally fix the foundation.

When we originally asked how soon they could get the roof replaced, they told us that they were booked for the entire summer since El Niño has brought extra rain this year.

We were on schedule to get our roof replaced by August, so I had to keep praying that our roof doesn't leak again with all the extra rain. Luckily, someone called to reschedule their repair and we got our roof replaced before Memorial Day weekend.

The whole process took about 4 days. They started the job on Monday afternoon and completed everything by Thursday and the city came to inspect it on Friday. We are happy with the work and I am very happy that I don't have to worry about another leak for 30 years. Peace of mind is definitely worth every dollar spent!

LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!! Not sure who is providing all these positive reviews for Nicholas Roofing but I just had a similar experience to David S. I called the company and left a message. No one returned my call. I called again and this time someone picked up. I requested an estimate for my roof and the response was I won't be able to send someone out till the end of May. I was deliberating on making an appointment and I mentioned it to the person on the phone, his response was we probably won't be able to get to your roof till the end of summer. What??? Why are you even in the business of roofing? Why are you in business at all?

I literally don't know what more you could expect from a business. Of any type.

I initially met Nicholas Roofing in 2009 while in the process of purchasing a home. I wanted to have the roof inspected and the fellow (from a different roofing company) that came out told me I needed to have my roof replaced immediately. I asked my real estate agent for a second opinion and she recommended Nicholas Roofing. It would be the first of many recommendations for Nicholas Roofing that I would receive. It's not that I was asking, but fellow property owners would just volunteer.

Jimmy came out and was just fabulous. He told me that my roof was fine and had many years left in it. The previous fellow had told me such a tale of doom and gloom, and I liked Jimmy so much, I was actually kind of pressuring HIM to sell ME a roof! I mean, if I needed a roof I would much rather give the money to him. But he stayed firm and was adamant I didn't need one. Oh yeah, it's 7 years later and the roof is still doing fine.

Since then he has done work on several houses for me and it has all been top notch and super reasonably priced. He also coordinates with tenants which makes my life easier.

I had actually purchased a house knowing it needed a roof so I could finally give them a big job! Unfortunately I wound up selling the house before I could put a roof on it :(

I wrote them a review years ago but for some reason it never got published. Sorry guys!! You're the best!!
