Unfortunately, I can not recommend this company for small bathroom remodels. I took a chance on a small business I found through my Facebook Neighborhood Page. They were going to do two phases to leave my family and I one working bathroom. The owner was extremely great until receiving the first 50% of my payment and then he became unreliable as to when the work would get done. Two weeks into the project he asked for another 25% of the payment so he can pay his workers to which I obliged and am left with 75% of the work completed. The work started the first week of May and over this past weekend (7/2), the owner came to my house and stated that he could have his team come out and finish the work and make corrections since going MIA on me in June due to a family emergency. I haven't heard from them since. If you do use this company, make sure to only give the 50% of payment until the work is completed, set expectations on when work would be performed, and go through the work daily to see if corrections need to be made.

MPJ Roofing has caused a lot of heartburn over the last 6 years, but especially in the last 4 weeks in which Miguel was a no show 3 times and has ghosted since.

In May 2017, I initially hired them to remove a satellite dish that was causing a leak. In September 2017, my neighboring townhouse several months later decided to change out her roof with MPJ and the other unit and I agreed to do it all together for bulk discount and to be consistent.

Over the last several years, the roof has been leaking in two areas and caused several feet of drywall damage on the ceiling. It was hard to drill down where the leak was until Aug 2022 in a big rain storm - we happened to sleep in the living room and hear dripping and investigated it at 2 am. Water was dripping from nails and trickling down the beams and into the insulation fluff pile (which made it really hard to trace unless there was a massive downpour).

I called Miguel up. My 1 year labor warranty on a then 5 year old roof had lapsed. He said the new roof installs now come with 10 year labor warranty, but they sell it a la carte for $650... He'd offer me $325 for the remaining 5 years. I mulled over it and decided to just pay $150 for removing the nails and sealing the holes around the roof vents. He came out and it was handled fairly smoothly.

Fast forward 8 months later, it's April 2023 and the roof is leaking again in the exact same places. I call him up and it's easy to set up at first. Then over the last almost 4 weeks, we've made plans 3 times which have all been no show with no communication. I've tried to be mindful and respectful - I call and text once a day most weekdays. At this point, I'm basically ghosted since this would be covered under the 10 year warranty for the Sep 2022 patch job. I assume since this job is $0 for the trip, he's decided to put me on the backburner, and eventually decided to just stop responding. Voicemail box has also been full for a few weeks now.

I'm attaching all the text messages so you can be the judge if you would like this to be you. You can presume I've called every time before I texted (Apple doesn't have a nice call log to screenshot). I guess if you're like the neighbor who started this roof replacement project and then sold the house shortly after, MPJ was priced well and easy to reach...but now the owner she sold it to also is trying to repair leaks in his roof, so it's not just my unit dealing with shoddy workmanship.

As to why I've continued returning to this business for the patch? I wanted them to take accountability and recognize what damages they have caused. For existing customers - I urge you to not buy the warranty - I am SO GLAD I didn't pay a dollar more to them when this is how they honor their warranty. For prospective customers - I urge you to not let this text message conversation be you! He may be a lower bid, but roofs can be expensive to repair and cause a lot of interior damage if left unnoticed for a while, especially when Houston unpredictably rains buckets / hurricane season - everyone is scrambling for a roofer and they're booked out several months.

Mr. Perez came to our home to give us a quote for gutters. We decided to go with him because he was recommended by Juan with Texas Irrigation. We were extremely happy with Texas irrigation, and we thought we would get the same service with MPJ roofing. Our gutters were installed, we paid for them and we did not receive a receipt for our payment. Mr.Perez said he would send it to us, we never got it. We attempted to contact him several times and he would never answer our text messages. We started having issues with the gutters and we could never get a hold of him. This is just not right.

I received a quote 2 weeks ago for doing a back fence. He said he was going to come and do the fence two times and never showed up. The first time he said he was behind in his work. The second time he said that he was waiting for Home Depot to have all the material there. I believe he does large jobs first. He gave excuses about why he did not show up both times. I had to hire another contractor to do the job. I would not recommend MPJ Roofing and Remodeling!
