Though Monahan Roofing was recommended by an official Board Member of our HOA, the experience of business with this company was frustrating. They required constant pulling on my part in order to get them to complete basic administrative items through material installation and final inspection. Highlights of my experience with this company:
1. The owner wants money before completion and made homeowner feel guilty about not providing 50% minimum up front.
2. The work began before being assigned a work permit from COJ.NET
3. Though permissible, low grade plastic sheeting was used as underlayment vice felt paper or equivalent.
4. Roofing installation until first inspection took 3 weeks.
5. The company required prompting by homeowner to schedule the inspection. (Company took an additional week to accomplish this).
6. City inspector failed the inspection due to insufficient number of fasteners used on edge shingles.
7. Rework of the failed inspection until finally passing of the re-inspection took an additional ten days.
8. Each one of these events required the homeowner to send emails, text messages and phone calls to the company owner in order to document substandard performance in the event this was to be taken to civil court.
Summary: If you are searching for a company that is supposed to be the ""professional"" in the roofing business and one that you won't need to monitor, supervise and prod along then this group will surely disappoint. Glad to have this completed (finally) and will look elsewhere for my next roofing project. If you use this company, monitor them to ensure all administration with city of Jacksonville is conducted and do not pay more than 25% of agreed upon cost weekly.
