Over the years, Joe and his crew helped track down a mysterious leak in my roof, and they did a great job tracing its source when it proved to be tricky. He was always honest and straightforward, and did a great job with a couple of roof repair jobs that I needed.

When it was time to get a new roof, there was no question in my mind that I'd go with Martenson Roofing. His bid wasn't the lowest, but he carefully explained why his was higher, mainly due to better materials. He also offered to replace a couple of wood beams over my front porch at no additional cost. I knew I could trust him and his work, so I went with it.

The roofing job itself was competently done and looks great. Based on this alone, I recommend Martenson Roofing. I think Joe guided me to just the right kind of shingles and I love the result. The replacement wood beams were painted to match the existing color of my house, and I couldn't be more pleased.

However, there were two surrounding issues: a sloppy crew, and lack of follow-up on some extras.

For weeks after the new roof was put up, I kept finding nails/tacks in the dirt around all sides of my house, and most distressingly, in between the pavers in my driveway. Other roofers in their bids mentioned their careful cleanup (e.g., with magnets to pick up nails) and I didn't realize how important that would be. Debris had also rained down inside my garage, with its open ceiling, onto everything in there, and Joe hadn't warned me to cover things up with a tarp. That kind of thing should be a standard warning from a roofer, since inexperienced homeowners like myself may not have considered it. Finally, an extra length of paper was left hanging off the edge of a high point on my roof, flapping in the wind, and it took several weeks and a couple of requests for Joe to get someone to come back out and remove it.

When getting bids, I told Joe that I also wanted to add new rain gutters and resurface/seal an upstairs deck. Joe promised a quote on the rain gutters but never delivered. He brought out someone who was supposed to be a deck resurfacing expert, who was nice and friendly but who did not share his contact information with me, and who never followed through with a quote for the work.

I do recommend Martenson Roofing for their competent work, and for Joe's honesty and knowledge. But do watch the crew, especially as the job wraps up, and do your own footwork when it comes to related work like rain gutters and deck sealing/surfacing.

Working with Joe was a pleasure. He went far above and beyond to ensure a high quality job. He did a full re-roof on a 2 story property steep-pitch roof + detached garage. He installed 2"" polyiso in an open-beam section which has been a big help for insulation, and went through extrodinary lengths to get me the higher end shingle and matching ridge I was after. His pricing was extremely competative which helped this big job. There were a lot of details I was after and, while I had to watch his guys a bit, Joe himself always delivered. A family-owned business I'd gladly support and recommend.

I used their website to arrange an appointment to review my roofing project. Joe was very responsive and even managed to move the appointment up a day to accommodate my schedule. I received a detailed, competitive proposal, but have decided to go with another contractor. I would contact Martenson Roofing for any future projects though as I think they would give me a reasonable, competitive proposal for any work they can tackle.

I've worked with Martenson Roofing on two occasions now and couldn't be more pleased with their work. During the last rain storm in Los Angeles my moms roof finally gave in and started leaking. The owner and employees were always available and on time.

To be fair, I received a call from Joe one week later. He was not happy that I left my review because he felt we had a relationship. I was taken back by that remark because if you value a relationship, you act to protect it. Joe went on to say that he was out of town that whole time. That excuse was demised by me because if you have a business and you will not be available, then you leave a message for your customers to hear and they don't think they've been left out in the cold! We had an immediate problem when I called Joe the first time because of rain coming into the house. I call him twice and finally got a call seven days later.

I'm sorry but I don't feel any better about receiving the call because I think I only received the call back because of my YELP negative review of which Joe brought up, so I guess it worked since I got a call. I will leave it up to the readers to rate whether they consider the service worthy of a better ratting. I did up it one star more since I received a call. BTW I went out to hire a different roofer.

I requested bids from several companies to repair a leak on my roof. Joe Martenson came out right away. He gave me a fair bid and was able to start work right away. Joe snd his men were friendly and professional. The insurance company reviewed the finished roof and said the roofer did a great job! I was very pleased with their services.

Called for an estimate and the response was prompt. A date was set for about four days later but was asked to push it back another couple days due to their schedule, no problem. The guy came out to check my roof and said he would email the proposal by end of day if not the next day at the latest. Well, thursday went by, friday and the weekend went by. I called again on Monday just to let them know I never received an email and to please call back or email me. That was now almost 3 weeks ago and no response via email or phone. I dont understand why a company would waste their time and efforts. And I would think they would want business since its a competitive market and word goes round about pleasant companies. I at least got a few courtesy calls from other roofing companies left in me know they couldnt accommodate me until the beginning of next year instead of leaving me in the dark.

What a GREAT company. Joe is awesome knowledgeable and friendly. I looked for some time to find someone to repair my roof in South Pasadena! Joe was prompt, stayed in touch, work was done very well with little mess left behind. Joes crew was very polite and easy to deal with.
