This company sent a salesperson to my home who claimed she went up to the top of the roof and showed me the photos. She said a new roof would cost $70,000 (about double the price of other estimates). The only problem was: the photos taken by the salesperson were not of my roof. I've had two other roofers show me aerial footage from a drone, and have also had an eyeball assessment of the damage. There's no doubt that the photos from Kaufman were fake and were purposely shown to me to close a sale.

Then, the salesperson asked me to get the Declaration's Page from my homeowner's insurance policy. She immediately dialed the number for Progressive Insurance on her phone and gave it to me to do the talking. She told me to tell the Claims Dept. that the roof was damaged in Sept. 2022 (after Hurricane Ian), and I received a claim number. Then, the salesperson assured me that I wouldn't even have to pay the $5,000 deductible. She said, ""Don't worry - there are ways around that too.""

Then, she asked me to choose an attorney and said that one of them had never lost a case. Naturally, I chose him. Next, I signed a Kaufman contract with a claim for $43,000 (what happened to $70,000?) which would be extracted from the insurance company. So, magically, all costs to me went away, and Kaufman was going to deal with my insurance company who would be paying the entire amount.

Afterward, I called a friend, who just had his roof replaced. When I told him about Kaufman, he said, ""OH NO! Cancel that contract as quickly as possible!"" Then, he explained that he had been involved in the same scheme with another company. He told me the insurance companies are catching on to this ""technique"" and are not quick to pay for claims that weren't reported earlier (like after Hurricane Ian). My friend also told me that these companies tend to remove the existing roof, and put a tarp over the house until the insurance company agrees to pay for the new roof.

Anyway, I read a bunch of horror stories about customers who had tarps over their homes while waiting for the insurance company to pay for the new roof. The problem is: Kaufman leads you through the process of filing a claim, and then ""your attorney"" fights with the insurance company, which may take many months to resolve. In most cases, the company drops the insured person after this scheme comes to a conclusion. Then, it's nearly impossible to obtain wind or homeowner's insurance ever again.

So, thanks to FL law, I was able to cancel the contract within (3) business days, however the cancellation had to be in writing for them to accept it. So, I had to send this notice of cancellation via overnight mail for it to arrive on time. That's because after (3) days, Kaufman has the right to charge 15% of the total cost of the roof ($43,000) unless a signed, original cancellation notice is received at their office within (3) days.

Just one more thing: I tried calling the salesperson that same day and the next day - and her voice-mail was full. Then, I called Kaufman's office to ask how they ""get around"" my paying the $5,000 deductible. The person who answered the phone said that there is NO WAY around the $5,000 deductible - and that amount would be paid by me. This was a contradiction to what the salesperson represented to me.

Conclusion: There's no free lunch; this type of conveyor-belt maneuvering by some roofing companies appears to be unethical and possibly fraudulent (in my opinion). Anyway, the insurance companies are quite aware of these types of claims, and there's no assurance they'll pay a dime (and then, they'll cancel your policy). Finally, I found another roofing company who is charging a total of $2,800 for a repair to my roof (with a warantee). The owner of that company said, ""that's all that is needed.""

I contacted Mark Kaufman Roofing since it was local and I had hurricane roof damage that would need a complete replacement. A salesman was sent out but he was about 30 minutes late. He was personable but sounded like a used car salesman--all he needed was white shoes. His next visit was scheduled for a day later and he was about 45 minutes late--traffic both times, he said. On his next visit he was only late about 20 minutes and signed up and gave him a deposit check. The following day we were to meet him in Venice to pick out the tile at a local showroom at 3:00 pm. We arrived right on time and he was not there. About 20 minutes later I texted him ""we are here"". No response. We left a little after 4;00 and he was a no show. I called the office sometime later and left a message for them. I told them I wanted my money back and I wanted a member of management or owner to call so I could tell them live about their employee. The next morning he showed up with a company refund check. I thanked him and closed the door. It has been a week since I requested a phone call from someone in management but they have not called me. They lost a $58k roofing job and were not interested enough to contact me. I guess they can read about it here instead.

Mark Kaufman recently replaced our tile roof. The roofing crew did a fantastic job. We are very pleased with their professional work, hours of dedicated work, disposal of dumpsters daily, and property clean up. Wish I could say the same for the power washing crew. Horrible! What a mess! Day 4 of us trying to clean up mess they made. MK's solution was to send the power washers back...no thank you!

I would highly recommend NOT USING Mark Kaufman Roofing based on my recent interactions with their sales staff. The sales staff came out to look at my roof and wanted to submit a claim on my behalf for my roof to my insurance agency. I told them I would think about it and they could follow-up with me the following week. The salesman called me back and I returned his call and indicated to him that I decided to have an ""Independant"" adjuster file the claim for me. However, I asked him to submit his bid for my roof to be re-shilgled. He them asked me two questions 1) about price and 2) about warrenty. He asked which was more important to me. I responded and said, both.

At that point he said to me by saying that he would submit the bid to my email address. After a few days I received no bid - so I texted ""Brain"" the salesman and asked him where the bed was that he said he would submit to me. His text response to me - and I quote (Not interested, thanks for the opportunity).

So, if anyone from Mark Kaufman reads these reviews - one has to wonder WTF is that about? Now, I'd say that is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !! Now, if that is how they do business overall by throwing what I would consider a temper trantrum response by not getting their way - I'm darn glad I didn't decide to use them to start with.

Probably what really got to the sales guy was I had told himn that I had a very competitive bid around 14k. However, the lowest bid in my book is not always the best bid - so Mark Kaufman was still in the running for my business - that is until the salesman sealed my decision not to use them.

I contacted Mark Kaufman Roofing in North Port, FL for a repair on my roof. The estimator came out and stated ""all of the plywood will need to be replaced."" The estimator emailed a written estimate with cost.
-----
On the day of the repair the work crew stated they didn't need to replace any plywood. (They also didn't bring any plywood with them). The crew removed the tiles, adhered a new piece of underlayment on top of the existing underlayment, replaced some flashing, and put my tiles back on.
-----
When I received the bill, the price was the full price of the replace all plywood quote. I contacted the estimator. He stated ""that's odd no plywood was replaced. Regardless if we use 0 sheets or 10 sheets, the price is the same.""
-----
The wording on the work order stated ""replace any rotten wood as necessary."" That template wording does not negate or relieve the estimator of what he said. I was told the plywood would be replaced. It wasn't.
-----
Mark Kaufman Roofing uses deceptive business practices. Plus, the owner wanted to over-talk and argue with me on the phone.
