Adam X.We have a 270' view house in Brentwood (Mandeville Canyon) and did a full restoration on it. The first contractor was a crook, the second basically had to go backwards before we could go forwards, redesigning and really doing it right. Unfortunately the first contractor put a cr*p roof on an amazing house, and it leaked the first rain. After we did more work we ended up just cutting out the front and back of the house and just moiding the warranty (which was fine at that point). However... it leaked again in the torrential rains.
I found a couple good looking roofing reviews on Google but not many, and after calling a few other contractors, i realized they were all crooks. Dig deep people... dont take the first good looking review you find.
Well... I found Mar Vista, and checked them out. Patrick came out the next day and reported back and gave us a few options to fix some problematic work:
1. - Patch it and see if it stops (no guarantee)
2. - Really do it right
3. - Redo the entire roof
We chose option 1 and to date its held just fine. We will be taking on option 2 soon, but just waiting for winter to pass.
Thanks again Patrick for offering quality where there are so many snakes!!
In the end, the work will proably end up being OK because his foreman is very knowledgeable. But Patrick (the owner) doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. He insisted that I didn't need to remove any sheathing (the wood layer that is the the bottom part of the roof), even though other contractors had told me that it was a ""complete teardown"". Patrick, who spent 15 minutes visually inspecting the roof for the estimate and did not show up again, told me that such an idea was ""crazy"" and that whoever had told me to replace the sheathing ""didn't know what they are talking about"". But his own workers said that it needed to be done, telling me that ""he doesn't know about wood"", so it got done in the end.
So I'm hopeful about the work, but I don't want to deal with this guy again. He has too short of a fuse.
Liza V.This company must have alot of business, the lady who answered the phone was unfriendly and not helpful at all, and advised that our project was in the WRONG zip code, they are in Mar Vista, this project was right next to LAX..mmm...not in their area....obviously too much business.....wish we could be so un customer friendly. we are a contractor and was looking for a company to provide a roof for us as we are not licensed to do this, dont bother checking their website, they dont email, the are still very old school, everything hand written.
They actually asked how we heard of them, i said YELP, not that they even probably know what that is.
Melissa Y.Had a small, but growing waterline on the ceiling in one of the bedrooms in my house, and rain was predicted for the coming weekend. I left a message with Patrick on a Monday, got him out for an estimate on Tuesday, and he fixed the leak with a silicone patch on Thursday morning for a very reasonable price. I wanted to wait for a few rains to pass before I wrote a review, and I'm happy to say that the repair has held up great since then! Not only that, I found out from a bunch of my neighbors that he has done good work all over our street - my next door neighbor told me he's had Patrick working on his house for over 10 years.
Linda W.I referred my elderly mother to Mar Vista Roofing after seeing reviews here, checking state license and BBB rating - also A+. Mom is very happy with the prompt service and diagnosis to repair a leaking vent in the garage roof. Especially since she had responded previously to a cold call (yikes!) from another company that told her the roof needed to be replaced - that guy never got on a ladder to inspect the roof from the outside and made his assessment standing inside the garage with a flashlight. Mom said the kind gentleman from Mar Vista Roofing arrived in a nice truck with ample ladders, and he examined the vent thoroughly from outside atop the roof before determining the roof was fine and only the vent needed to be resealed - a minimal repair by comparison and cost. Yay Mar Vista Roofing - we need more honest business people like you to serve our community!
Andrew S.I needed a new roof for my contemporary flat-roofed Manhattan Beach home. Patrick, President (and owner) of Mar Vista Roofing was professional and courteous at all times through the process and answered all the little surprises that came up throughout the project. His people were experienced, considerate, friendly and courteous. He coordinated this roofing work with that of his sheet metal sub-contractor (Kelly Sheet Metal). He communicated all issues as they arose in a timely and clear manner.
Mar Vista Roofing was not my low-cost competitive bidder, but I went with them because of reputation and references. The roof is an important part of the house. I am very happy with the work done. The job was completed in less than a week - right on schedule.
I had Mar Vista Roofing put a new roof on my house. It was very expensive, compared to other roofers, but I went for it because Mar Vista has a good reputation.
Subsequently, another contractor, who I called for other reasons, pointed out some problems in the work Mar Vista had done. For the price I paid, I expected premium work, but I did not get it.
A couple of months later, I called to ask a question about the new roof. Even thought I left several messages, both with the person answering the phone and on the answering machine, nobody ever called me back.
Imagine. I spent over $7000 with them, and they won't even return my call to answer a simple question.
TERRIBLE! We happened to be there when one of the guys dropped a large piece of wood and broke our new custom measured garden window, (bent the metal frame as well as the glass). The owner of the company, Patrick, told us to just live with the bent frame and he would replace the glass. Patrick has a serious attitude problem. We found him completely unreasonable, rude and obnoxious at every turn. We also think he's not the sharpest tool in the shed which makes his attitude problem more troubling. Good thing this is an inherited family run company because our guess is that Patrick could never keep a job otherwise.
I just joined yelp however wanted to warn people that this guy is creepy. I asked for his help several months ago and found him rude, confrontational and dismisive when it came to my concerns. I wanted a fair and complete estimate and getting straight answers was like pulling teeth.
He may do good work however I will never find out from the way he acted.
Get others for estimates.
Nancy K.Last year, I noticed a leak coming from the roof of my condo. Our HOA found a guy to come out for repairs. He was going to fix my leak, another leak over a different unit, and clean off the mold growing on the tiles. Long story, but my leak was never repaired and he disappeared without finishing the job. He even left without his ladder! Anyway, I didn't figure out that the leak was not fixed (since he left in the middle of power-washing the mold off the tiles) until this year when the rain came.
I called Mar Vista roofing after a random search online, and Patrick was able to come by the next morning for a quote. I decided to go with him immediately, since he seemed very knowledgeable and professional, and his quote was reasonable. His crew came out the following day and repaired my leak. I was happy with his work and thrilled that he was able to get the job done so soon after I called him.
I didn't write a review right away, since I wasn't completely sure that the repairs were good. I kept waiting for more rain, until finally, it rained yesterday! I'm happy to report that the leak is fixed!!
