We recently hired Lovett& Lovett Roofing company to replaced our roof and rain gutters for our rental. Their bid was very reasonable compared to others. These guys are professional, good communicator, address the issue's in a timely manner and they finished the job on time. The end result was a quality product but how we got there was frustrating.

1. They will leave your attic absolutely trashed. I don't understand why this isn't standard on their contract but they won't cover your attic to protect from debris unless it's requested (for a fee). There was a complete lack of communication before the project. I didn't even know when they'd start until 5pm the previous day. They also didn't seem to communicate internally and would forget parts of the project multiple times.

2. Review your charges carefully. They were going to charge $2100 to put gutters on a small detached garage, approximately the same amount as my house. They'll also charge you extra for the permit fees even if their contract states they'll only charge what is required by the city. They outsource the permitting process and markup the cost to you by 50%.

3. If you aren't over their shoulder every step of the way, they'll make their own questionable judgement calls when they could just ask what you want. They'd save themselves time and avoid putting the customer in the position to be an asshole but that isn't their approach. Move quickly, and make the customer say something.

Again, the end product was quality but I didn't trust the project management team and the construction team needed constant proactive communication to get what you want.

We filled out the form on the company's website to request an inspection/quote, and when we received no response days later we called and left a voicemail (no one answered during business hours), and again we got no response. There are a lot of good companies in the Bay Area. We're not going waste time on one that apparently doesn't need business.

The team at Lovett and Lovett is fantastic. If I could give six stars, I would. We live at a challenging house on a challenging street for a whole roof replacement, but it was no problem for the folks at Lovett and Lovett. The work was done well and on time.

What impressed me the most, though, was the team's thoroughness with promptly addressing and fixing an issue that the project caused for our neighbor. I think that you have to plan on some issues with any major project. With Lovett and Lovett, you can bank on them to confront it and fix it head on. (And preserve friendly relations with the neighbors!)

The work is great, the price is fair, and the commitment to see the project through any issues is strong. What more could you ask for?

They were prompt, professional and easy to work with. The job took five days. Everything was completed as agreed. The job site was cleaned at the end of each day and the crew was great. I also felt their proposal was reasonably priced and a very good value.
