It wasn't the work I had a problem with. After having signed a contract to have the roof done for a certain amount and having the work done they sent back an amended contract that added basically 30% to the original price. Apparently the cost of labor and materials can fluctuate that much for a twelve hundred square foot house in just a three month period. I guess a business that's been around for 40 years still hasn't learned what it's costs might be. Or they're unscrupulous and unprincipled. Can't they stick to a deal they signed? Apparently not.

Lon Smith Roofing was amazing! We own a rental home in Fort Worth and needed a new roof. We live in the Austin area and don't get a lot of time to drive to the home. Lon Smith Roofing gave us a bid, matched the insurance quote, did the work and clean up, and only needed one trip up for us to sign off on the work. I would recommend them to any of our friends and family.

I used Lon Smith to replace by roof that was damaged in the recent hail storms. The sales representative (David) was AWESOME!!! The roofers did a good job on the roof (from what I can tell from the street), were friendly, answered all my questions and did a good job cleaning up the debris. However, after calling to inquire about when I would be receiving the invoice, I was shocked to learn that the price had jumped by some $800 from the price quoted on the contract I signed. When I called to inquire I was informed it was because the roof was installed in June. (Now mind you it was not my fault they couldn't get to me until June, the contract was signed on May 8th...the roof wasn't installed until June 16). At no time between the signing of the contract and the installation was I notified by anyone at Lon Smith that the price had increased. Two weeks later, I get a letter asking me to sign to authorize the price increase which I REFUSED. I had to call no less than 3 times to get the issue resolved. Patricia in the production department is just flat out rude and condesending and was upset when I protested the increase. I was also told that they would credit me $100 per referral. I had to call no less than 3 times to finally get SOME (not all of the credit). I have still yet to receive a corrected invoice and then yesterday after 5 p.m. I get a voicemail from Patricia stating that they would remove the credit I had been given if the bill is not paid. I immediately called her back (within 1 minute of her call) and she refused to come to the phone. To make a long story while the quality of the work is good, the customer service in the office (especially after installation, needs SIGNIFICANT improvement. A couple of people I referred have since changed their minds about using them after hearing of my experience.

The people from Lon Smith, from the sales rep thru the man who helped with clean up and everyone involved were great. Extremely thorough roof workers put in very long hours in oppressive heat and were always polite and courteous. The roof looks great too!

They promise to return a call within 72 hours...2 weeks later still waiting. Such a poor way to run a business!!!

Our house was hit by a tornado a few months back. It was right before the E5 hit Garland and Rowlett. I was still waiting to hear back from my insurance claim when tornados tore through North of Dallas. I thought it would be impossible to get my minor repairs done at a time when every roofing contractor was being called to an area of total devastation. Lon Smith took my call and within 48 hours had an Esitmator on site climbing my roof. Their estimate was much lower than expected and within a week they were on site and completed. I felt terrible tying up a contractor with my minor repairs when two towns over they were completely devastated. Lon Smith assured me they were not pulling resources from that area and were able to meet the needs of both of our communities. I pray this is my first and last experience with a tornado, but I can tell you I would call Lon Smith again without hesitation.

Had a roof leak on a 16x12 shed that turned into a rotten deck. Needed a full reroofing and redecking in the rotten sections. Lon Smith Roofing was out within 8 days of our call even though we had 4 days of rain in between. Totally professional and on time when they said they would be. Scope of work was performed exactly how they said it would. Great job on the roof and great customer service with a thank you card sent by mail and a follow up call to ask how we felt the job went. We had nothing but positive results from our call to Lon Smith.

I would not recommend Lon Smith Roofing. They have horrible customer service and they do not stand behind their work very well. There are several other good roofing companies out there. Just remember folks, the big companies aren't always the best!

Had Lon Smith Roofing replace the roofing over my patio. I know this is a small job to them, but they were out quickly, replaced the roof, and left the site clean. It hasn't rained since, but assuming there will be no problems.

On recommendation from my independent insurance agent, I contacted Lon Smith roofing about my estimate on my roof. They came out twice. The second time with my home insurance company adjuster. I was initially impressed with their presentation.all that mattered to me was solid workmanship, great track record and excellent customer service. After signing the contract, two days later Lon Smith pulled my credit report. I have a guard on my credit that reports any suspicious activity. I was confused at my why a roofing company would access my credit report in face of an insurance claim. I asked my lender, home insurance agent and CPA about this occurrence all stated it was a red flag and odd that it had happened and advised me not to deal with them further. I did call them to inquire if it was a mistake. It was intentional. I received a range of excuses none of which were plausible. The excuses ranged from...we thought it was a cash transaction to we need make sure we get our money to the color tile, green, you want is a special order and would be difficult to return if you decide to not get it. I signed off immediately. This triggered a few apologetic calls from the company. The apologies were for me being offended not so much for their invasion into my privacy and accessing my credit report without a disclosure or my permission. Before I terminated the agreement, I received a letter from Lon Smith stating they wanted approximately 18,000 upfront. The is 60% of what the insurance company estimated to replace my damaged roof. Even if I somehow was stupid to go forward with them, my lender would never approve of that since they control the administration of the funds. The home insurance sent a check in my name and the mortgage company's name. They would at the very least give a third upfront. This is completely unrealistic to ask for that much. My lender requires contracts, affidavits to be signed by me and the roofing company and drafts sent after periodic inspections of the work.
The pieces of the puzzle have come together as to why they checked my credit. It ranges from how much they could discriminately upcharge and manipulate this job in their favor to treating me like a thief or fraud. I never received a signed copy of the contract with my signature and the company representative's signature to the agreed upon price. I am very disappointed in their actions. Their business practices are not equitable or transparent. I reported them to several entities. I want the public to be aware of their shady actions.
