Overall: I recommend Lawson's Roofing and am happy with the final product and service. The start of the project was rough and I doubted if 1) we'd finish with them, 2) if I would give them any review above 3 stars. However, Dylan went above and beyond and resolved any issues we faced. His crew was exceptionally nice, thorough, and committed to finishing the project at a high-level (pun intended).

My advice: In addition to verifying a contractor's license with the state, if you live in Ventura, ask any company you contract with to show proof of a current business license with the city. Ventura's permit process is different from other cities (more on this under Day 4 below). Other advice is to make sure all variables costs are spelled out in your contract (Example: the 10% wood contingency was outlined for us, but it was unclear how that is measured. Also ask if there is additional costs per layer of existing roof that is removed. More on this under Days 2 and 5).

Before Day 1: We got nine quotes and picked Lawson's because they were second to lowest in price, had higher quality material, strong Yelp reviews, and could start within two weeks ( other companies were pushing us out a few months). After we signed the contract, our experience went downhill. The project manager was inconsistent and unclear at times with communication.

Day 1: We have a 10-year-old dog and I work from home. I made arrangements to take our dog and work elsewhere during the demo. To prepare I called and left a voicemail and texted our contact twice with no response. We were told the crew would arrive between 8 am - 10 am, and at 9:45 am I received a call from someone else at the stating we were confirmed for the following day. I asked why it was being pushed back and was referred to Dylan (who we hadn't been in contact with up to this point). He apologized for the miscommunication and said there was an issue with the crew's truck, so they were unable to arrive to start the demo until the next day.

Day 2: Demo happened. We received a text we would have to pay an additional cost because the crew removed 3-layers instead of 2-layers, like our quote estimated. HOWEVER, our contract never stated there would be an additional charge if additional layers were uncovered. Since we were working off-site due to the noise, we were unable to confirm there were 3-layers. By the time we got home, the crew was finishing up and the materials were cleaned up.

Day 3: No work happened. We learned the original shingles materials we selected were out of stock. This felt like a significant change considering the material type was part of the reason we chose Lawson's. Dylan assured us the quality of material that was available was the same as what we'd originally picked (50-year shingle instead of the standard 30-year we were quoted from other companies) but just a different brand.

Day 4: Inspection was scheduled. I texted to confirm what time so I could be available and was told it was cancelled by the city. I called the City of Ventura and learned Lawson's did not send copy of their business license, and therefore the city was pausing the project until it was verified. TLDR - I spent the day in calls between Lawson's and the city to resolve the issue. If we could not get on the inspection schedule for the following day (Friday), then the inspection could not happen until Monday. That would mean our bare roof would be exposed for almost a full week. Dylan remained calm and professional throughout the ordeal. While it was being resolved, Dylan sent two guys over to finish the wood repair so the shingles could be installed once inspection passed.

Day 5: Dylan informed us that our roof required more than the 10% contingency of wood that was outlined in our contract. This was as a surprise based on what we observed as having been replaced. Inspection happened. Shingle materials were delivered and it did not match what we had discussed on Day 3 (it was the 30-year shingle, not the 50-year). We got on the phone with Dylan and the supplier to discuss. We decided to proceed because we did not want any more delays and the crew began installation.

Day 6: The crew came on a Saturday and did the majority of the work. They ended up replacing more wood and Dylan informed us that he was waiving additional costs for wood and the removal of the 3rd layer that was discovered during demo. Given all the back-and-forth he confirmed our total cost would be the original price in our contract.

Day 7: day-off

Day 8: Project finished in less than four hours.

Day 9: Final inspection and approval by the city.

Lawsons assisted me with my total roof repair project and they did an awesome job; my new roof looks excellent. They offered a much more reasonable price than several competitors that I previously spoke with and I was impressed by the quality workmanship. The crews worked hard and fast on the demolition and renovations and Dylan made sure that all details were finalized and that I was satisfied upon completion. The only area that could use a bit of improvement is their overall communication, but otherwise I am really happy with the final product and thankful for a job well done.

They recently gave me a prompt estimate and a reasonable quote. The value for their services and material costs beat the competition. Will write more after the job completes. to be continued.

This review is for Lawson Roofing and their lift and relay of me and my wife's tile roof. For context, we had some damage that needed to be repaired but the recommendation was to get a whole need underlayment (life and relay) because our underlayment was very old and it was time. My wife and I reluctantly agreed as every roofer recommended it. Omid at Lawson took a bit of time to show me what would be done and I showed him things I wanted done in tandem. They were very reasonable on the price and I appreciated that. They seemed great.

Lawson started and completed the project. The main issue we had was the communication between Lawson and us was a bit to be desired. We had to work hard to get a good solid communication. We had to consistently tell them to fix things or do things that weren't done right the first time. They were tough to get ahold of after we got a project manager and such. They didn't fully fix a part that I was hoping for. I had expected a better communcation stream with a customer who wanted a whole new roof (basically). It seemed like they were very distracted for most of the time.

So, while the work was done and I feel confident in their work (after having to have them fix issues seemingly every day), I think they have too much work on their plate. I understand the focus on growing a business and I appreciate that very much, but with so many projects at once going on, some customers are left without as much attention, and I think we fell in that camp. It was too hard to communicate at times and there seemed to be miscommunication with things at the outset with the team that performed the work. I will work with Lawson again as they have warrantied my roof, so I will be working with them. I just recommend focusing on their clients, if that means taking less work at once to make sure all clients are given the attention they need, it would help. It shouldn't take a client checking the work daily.

I like the guys here, they are proud of their business and I appreciate it. I just think they have a bit too much going on and their quality of work sometime showed for it.

They are the first one to visit our home and provide an estimate. Very engaging and prompt. Although we didn't go with their services, I recommend them based on my brief experience with their company.

I met with seven, yes seven, roofers and Dylan was the only roofer I felt I was getting a completely straight answer from. When he wasn't sure if I was going to have to replace the fascia, he gave us a fair estimate and reassured me that that we wouldn't be over charged. We weren't. And most of the fascia didn't have to be replaced. Two other companies assured me I would have to redo all of it. He and the rest of his workers were professional and clear. Lawson's extended my roof, worked diligently and cautiously, and we are so happy with the result.

We had a great experience with Lawson's roofing and Dylan. We had two sections of roof redone, one simply replacing what was there with equivalent material, and one adding a thick layer of insulation where the roof is very thin and has no attic over the room it's in, and also patching a hole for an old wood-burning stove that we never used.

Everything was done fast and high quality. The insulated roof has been amazing for keeping the temperature regulated in that part of the house. I couldn't be happier.

Dylan is a great owner. Really made sure that we were happy and satisfied customers. I appreciate him for really going out of his way to make sure that no stone was left unturned. Overall the team was very very nice!

The roof job itself was fast, efficient , best price we got quoted on and the employees were nice all throughout.

Very responsive when I first called for a quote. Omid was very personable and extremely knowledgeable. Their bid was very fair, as I talked with two other contractors. The materials they used were top notch and acceptable by my insurance carrier for insurance on a flat roof. The construction team showed up on time, were courteous, and completed the work very well and on time, including clean up.
