We used Josh Hays to remodel our master bathroom. We started on April 24th 2019. It was supposed to take 3-4 weeks to demolish and renovate. We paid Josh $3,500 to start the job. It was approximately an $8,000 job with us providing most of the material. We had a faulty shower floor that was causing leaks down to our first floor living room. This was the purpose of the remodel since our tile was discontinued. From the very beginning of the job Josh sent multiple texts messages per week telling us he could not work that day. There were many reasons, the first was his truck kept breaking down. We thought when he got a new truck that he would start to show up to work on the bathroom. He would come between 1 and 3 days per week. The wrong bathtub was delivered and it took 3 weeks to get the right one in. According to Josh he could not go any further with any work without the bathtub. After the bathtub came in he said he had to take another job and would be here Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to work on our bathroom and we were happy about that because it was an improvement in the amount of days he was previously working. He did not show up on those days and we continued to receive multiple text messages per week saying he could not work that day. Josh Hays said his wife was wanting to know if we could give them a front of $1,500 before the job was done because they have had a very hard year. We gave Josh Hays additional money. This was June 19th. The next week Josh did not show up at all and was in Key West on vacation. When he returned from Key west we continued to receive multiple texts per week saying he could not show up to work. He had various reasons but the main one was he was working on another job. He kept telling us that after July 2nd the other job would be done and then he would work on our job full time. That never happened. By July 18th we still had a demolished bathroom with roughed in tile on the floor and some plumbing had been done. This is 3 months after the start of the job and $5,000 paid to Josh Hays. On Friday, July 18th we received multiple text messages from Josh Hays saying he was coming that day. By 2pm we still had not seen Josh. We called and got no answer. He did not call back but sent a text saying he left his phone at Floor and Decor and that he would not be coming that day to work. We gave up and hired someone else to finish the job. When the new contractor demolished the shower floor he discovered Josh Hays had not fixed the shower floor at all. Josh left the old shower pan liner that was defective, the old concrete and had put Aquaguard, thinset mortar and tile on top and called it a new shower floor. We tested the shower floor by using a balloon to seal the drain and filled the shower floor with water. We had significant leaking to the first floor still. The new contractor had also discovered that many of the floor tiles did not have enough mortar underneath and were completely loose. After approximately 3 dozen text messages cancelling on us, $5,000 given to Josh Hays we were left with a mess that another contractor had to fix and finish.
Please use a licensed contractor and don't use the least expensive contractor. Josh is not licensed and when we googled him we found no information on him so we are hoping that this review will save someone else from Josh Hays. We tried multiple times to call Josh Hays and talk about a resolution and texted him but with one response saying he would call us. That never happened. We had to leave his tools on our front porch because he didn't show up to get his tools when he said he was coming. Almost nothing Josh said to us from the start of the job was true.
