Congratulations - you no longer need to find who to use for roofing, here is my story and I am sorry it's taken so long to tell.
I had my roof replaced by a contractor who was not a roof specialist and decided to look elsewhere to replace my gutters. I heard about John from a long time (30 years) Palo Alto realtor that used him to evaluate the quality of roofs as part of her buying and selling process(that's a big deal since her market was the top end homes of Palo Alto, read: $5 million +.)

John came by, looked at the roof and said instantly: ""this roof should never have passed inspection."" That blurt was then accompanied by an encyclopedic conveyance of facts relating to building codes, manufacturer specs, and personal experience.

To make a very very long story short. The city of Palo Alto agreed that the roof should not have passed (a big deal.) The manufacturers of the roofing agreed and I got a complete refund from the contractor to replace my roof.

My new roof has the symmetry and perfection of a cathedral - John is a true craftsman. His crew are perfectionists that have been with him for decades because he treats them with respect and he knows how to pick talent.

He fixed other issues relating to my roof and vents, everything was on time and hassle free. John has great pride in having one of the oldest licenses in the business but unlike his competition he will still be found on the job (due to his amazing fitness.)

This work was completed years ago and I just spotted a note I made to write a review for Kurz roofing - if I had done it sooner, this would be even more praiseworthy.

Our real estate agent referred us to John. We realized we had a leaky skylight after the last storm. It took them a few days to get out to fix it (which I see as a good sign when someone is busy) but they tarped the area during the delay and it's all fixed now, no leaks. They even fixed some things free of charge. I would highly recommend John and his crew for your roofing needs.

John Kurz Roofing replaced my roof in the summer of 2004. He was not quite the lowest bidder, but he did everything exactly when and how he said he'd do it - he arrived promptly for the estimate, sent the crew out to do the work exactly as promised, and completed the job professionally, speedily, and neatly. The cleanup was complete - all they left behind was a new roof. My house has a unique design which makes for roofing challenges - but the new roof has been leak-free and problem-free.
