Company Overview

Premium slate and standing seam copper roofing installation, assessment, and/or repair services. We are Ray and his son Justin, German-trained master slate roofers, and licensed C39 roofing contractors in California.

Kroeck and Son's is a family-owned roofing company established in 1885 in Giessen, Germany by Philipp Kroeck along with his son Karl Kroeck. Philipp held the title of ""Dachdeckermeister,"" which means ""master roofer."" In Germany, this entails attending trade school, then proving one's skills in the field to earn the title and certificate of master. Karl later earned his master certification and carried on the family business alongside his son, Karl Jr. Karl Jr. likewise earned his master certification and later opted to pursue the roofing business in America. In 1959, Karl Jr. relocated his family to Colorado and revived the business. Today, the family legacy continues and is now run by Karl Jr.'s son, Reimund Kroeck.

Reimund (Ray) has over 30 years of experience in the industry and excels in several roofing specialties. Ray is now assisted by his son, Justin, who represents the fifth generation of the Kroeck family tradition. Ray and Justin hold master certifications in slate and copper roofing and take pride in tackling challenging projects that demand a great deal of skill and craftsmanship.

I can't say enough good things about Ray, Justin and their expert team of craftsman. In 2013, Ray and Justin replaced our ancient failed roof with a beautiful new slate roof with copper gutters and downspouts. We are delighted with the results, and would happily serve as a reference for them. Ours is the third of four roofs that Ray has installed on our street - and I imagine that others in our neighborhood will follow suit at some point.

During the proposal phase, Ray was very patient and thorough, explaining each step of the project in advance. Before we committed to the project, he created a sample board of colors / patterns of slate. We loved it, and made no revisions (a rarity in our house!). When we got underway, Ray and Justin went out of their way to minimize the disruptions to our neighbors and us. Our house is almost 90 years old, and we uncovered a few surprises that Ray could not have foreseen. He modified his proposal very fairly to accommodate the extra structural work we needed to do, with little to no mark-up. Over and over, he did lots of little extra things at no incremental charge to us because it was the ""right"" thing to do (e.g., installing expansion joints in an inaccessible part of our roof, to replace some old putty that painters used 20 years ago).

Ray and Justin are incredibly meticulous, ensuring that each slate and each detail are 100% perfect. And I mean perfect. Example: Ray rejected a very high percentage of the slate (from Vermont) because it didn't meet his exacting standards. The slate company replaced the material with a fresh batch at no extra cost to us. As a result, we trust that our roof will have integrity for decades to come.

Did I mention the copper work? Our gutters can now withstand torrential rains with absolutely no risk of overflowing, and they look spectacular.

If you're thinking about a new roof, and slate is a consideration, I encourage you to talk to Ray.
