The roof was 30 years old and apparently was not the original roof. I've only owned the house for 10 years but at the time I bought it the inspector said it would probably need to be replaced in 10 years. Got three estimates. Two from small business and one from a large entity. Kennedy came in the middle. Sam came over, walked to roof and gave me his bid. We both knew extra work would be need once the roof was torn off. The prior roof was not installed properly thus leading to rot at the gutter line. He gave me a cost estimate for the extra work. The final cost was in line with his bid plus the extra work. The crew showed up early and was ready to go at 8am. I don't think they ever took a break except a short one for lunch. They worked until 5. The job site was left clean and free of debris every day. Sam called most every day and told me where the job was at and what to expect over the next couple of days. All in all I am very satisfied with the work of Kennedy Roofing and highly recommend them. Sam only runs one crew so you may get on his wait list but it's worth the wait.

Sam came recommended by my neighbor who had his roof done last year and was extremely satisfied. I had a couple of estimates and his came in very well priced. He lived up to everything he promised plus more. He could not quote on hidden problems but when discovered his overages were very reasonable. In fact he replaced one gutter at a very reasonable price. Job was done in a timely matter and cleaned up every evening. Great crew and very helpful.

Great company. Sam and his company helped out my pergola and deck construction. Unusual pergola and he waterproofed everything and made it nice. Great job and keep up the good work.

Just put a new roof on the house and these guys were just terrific from start to finish. They really went through the process and in many cases went above and beyond the work that was supposed to be done. Thank you Sam and Dan and your terrific crew for doing such a wonderful job.

~ the Kennedy Roofing team provided us with an excellent experience, from start to finish! upon buying a new home, we knew we'd have to replace the roof within the year. and i was dreading doing the research so that we could begin planning for it.
luckily a couple of our neighbors had already chosen Kennedy, and one day Dan knocked on our door to offer a free estimate. when he did get up on the roof, he provided us with pictures so that we could see just how bad parts of our roof actually were! and from there we got familiar with our options - and he even patched up a couple of sketchy areas up there since we had to wait a couple of months before we could do it. they were extremely accommodating and understanding about our need to be flexible in our scheduling.
Sam (the owner) was there each morning of the job, to make sure we understood the process - and he was so sweet with our young girls (bringing a beautiful black lab with him didn't hurt!) and he even offered to haul away some of the junk we had stacked up on the side yard, saved us a trip to the dump next weekend!
thanks to ALL of the crew that worked so hard on our house, in the hot July sun! we really, really appreciate it!! it makes our house look so much younger - incredible.

Work was decent, but they did not complete what they said they would do. I was going to tell them to finish the venting under the roof that they said they would re-screen, but its been 3 weeks of nagging them to get a simple receipt and it still hasnt been done. I really feel they will play nice till they cash the check and you cant get anything out of them.
Price also changed three times during this roofing job. The bid was done, where they person (Dan) who was really nice, went on the roof and gave me a bid on removal and placing a new roof. Then the day of the job it was suddenly 2700 more because they didnt realize there was two additional layers. Thats not my fault it wasnt noticed (I had no clue) and when I looked myself it was obvious there were multiple layers. So bid was off and i went with it still.
I was told the workers were ""legal and spoke english."" Let me tell you that wasnt my concern but they were stating they are against hiring illegals. Well oddly enough one worker spoke zero english and it was clear he was new to the US and the other barely understood me. So I felt I wasnt told the truth over something I wasnt worried about.
My initial receipt was tossed on the ground or dropped. I found it on the street in front of my house with the wrong rood type and wrong cost written. Also had scribble and other peoples phone numbers on it. So I called Kennedy himsef and left a message. No call back. Called and sent Dan texts and week after week promises of a receipt and nothing. If I cant get a receipt I am skeptical Ill get any service if an issue.
Then I took a day off to meet with the city inspector. They didnt leave a ladder to get to the roof so the inspector left. They blamed my renter for stating we had a ladder (which we did), but wasnt tall enough. Not our fault. Customer service is being here to handle it from A to Z. Especially when you keep marking up the price on someone on a tight budget.
In short...Dan is a nice guy and a good salesman. But they talk a big game and come up short with customer service and making you feel right at the end. I would honestly try elsewhere...roofs arent cheap...why feel short changed or like youre not important.

Dan was very nice and knowledgable. He drove me to see 2 roofs to compare the shingle grades and color. They worked w my husband to let him install the security system wiring while the roof was off. They also cut extra vents to allow attic to be cooler. Dan volunteered info so we could make an informed decision. Workers were fast and cleaned up everyday. They were nice hardworking guys and it was HOT outside. The day they finished it started raining! I would definitely, positively recommend them.

After a rainy winter our 25 year old shake roof was screaming ""no mas!"". I was finding thin, decaying shakes out in the yard after a windy day and the pine tree next to the house was dropping a heavy blanket of needles on our roof (please see my previous review on Agri-Con tree removal). Our gutters were beginning to droop, split and rust. Time for a roof and gutter replacement!
An acquaintance had suggested we call Dan at Kennedy Roofing. Dan came to the house and completed a through inspection of the roof, even taking us into the attic to show us where a little daylight was coming through. He completed his bid on the spot and kept in contact with us as we evaluated a total of six bids. Of the bids we felt the most comfortable with Dan's bid and the reputation of the company. We set a date a month or so in the future and made preparations, including dropping the biggest culprit, the imposing pine.
We contacted Dan a week prior to the tear off and were on schedule. The morning the work was to commence the crew arrived on time and eager to get going. On site was the owner of the company, Sam. I have to say, this was the happiest crew of workers I have seen in years. They had all worked for Sam for many years and it showed...there was a lot of good natured ribbing and cajoling. Obviously everyone seemed to enjoy their role on the work crew. Unlike all the other companies we talked with, only Kennedy had the same crew do all the work from tear-off to installation, including gutters. There are no sub-contractors to deal with. That was a real selling point for us.
Everything went according to schedule. Sam was very accommodating when I made small requests that, on the surface, seemed like trivial things but were important to me (downspout locations, reattaching the phone line). He was onsite 80% of the time, something that is unheard of with a big company. I have to say that I was impressed with the attention to detail and the desire to make things look right.
The job was finished on time, a day before a drenching rain hit. Nothing like testing your new roof! We only had a couple glitches, one being a rafter replacement that took some extra time.
Note that the company is located in Santa Cruz County but seems to work throughout the South Bay. That was a little confusing when we first started looking as the house is located in San Jose.
It's hard to pick a roofing company. You only need them once every 20 or 25 years, so when you start to wade through all the companies and their services it can be daunting. We felt fortune to have found Kennedy Roofing. We felt they were competitive, qualified, honest and reliable. Isn't that all you need in a roofing company?

Kennedy Roofing installed a beautiful new shingle roof on my home, which evinced, excellent workmanship, done within the time period that the owner had promised, and by a friendly crew. I highly recommend the firm.

Just had my new wood shingle roof finished by Kennedy Roofing. (3500 sg ft) Specatular job! The roofers have been working for Sam Kennedy for 20 plus years. It's a smaller crew, and they took their time to do the job right..It was not a rush to get to the next job. My family felt safe with Sam's team, as they were very nice and professional. In fact the city inspector told me that it was one of the best roofing jobs he has seen in years.I got their name from a friend who had his roof redone recently, and he gave Kennedy a good referral as well. I'm not sure what Chris S. is talking about. We used B grade medium shake/shingle and my neighbors all comment that the shingles look high quality. Overall very pleased and would use again.
