Joe is an absolute pleasure to work with, thank you JCW Contracting for everything you do!

We are beyond disappointed in the work from Joe Woods at JCW Contracting. At the end of August 2020 he met with us asking our budget. He assured us the conversion could be done for our budget because it was already partially built but never asked about the interior or exterior finishes, nor fully investigating the needs in detail, which was peculiar. He told us the build could finish in 30-45 days, that quickly moved to 60-75 days. He volunteered information that seemed odd to tell a prospective customer about other clients who didn't pay him and how he had been done wrong in the past. He continuously ensured his character, saying he would be physically on site working, ""not like others"". Honestly, there were many red flags in his story, but we were in a situation where we had a loved one who had a hard medical road ahead and she was living in our home. That was incredibly stressful and Joe promised a quick build in budget where other contractors were saying a much longer timeframe. Turns out Joe says what you want to hear to get the job. That he admitted to us later.
He said he worked on handshakes and a small deposit to get on his calendar, ""a man of his word"". At first he refused to send an itemized bid but wanted a contract signed. The bid finally came after weeks and us deciding to interview other contractors. We were almost 60 days in before the first worker arrived. The completion date pushed out every week. In November, he realized he mismanaged the funds and was nearing the end of the budget but we were only about 70% finished. This caused major delays while he accumulated more cash for this project. Workers stopped coming and when we pressed for work to be complete, they would show up overnight after their day job, tired and sometimes high. They were sleeping here instead and strange cars came in an out. We could smell marijuana. Joe rarely ever showed up to check progress unless we were angry about the above issues. We began purchasing supplies ourselves and allowing workers to borrow tools because they would be on site unable to proceed without them. We accumulated $4500 worth of receipts and ended up with broken tools, and he refused to reimburse us. The kitchen cabinets came out of another house he was working on and had to be modified to fit. Other finishes were downgraded to accommodate the mismanaged funds. We began to see that we needed to fire him but he had all of our money at this point and many promised that all the finishes had been purchased already. We found many times that was not the case. He had a hard time really knowing what he had already told us and his communications began stumbling over each other, revealing lie after lie. We found that the project was not built to code causing additional requirements from the county. We paid for some of those repairs, again to keep the project moving. When we hired the repairs to be finished by professionals, we found that the initial work was not done properly and had to be redone. He refused to pay for the portion that had to be corrected and has accused us of taking advantage of him and lying about agreements. Interestingly though, I have everything in writing so I'm not worried about his own misconceptions or intentional manipulation. He finally admitted to underbidding just to get the project but still refused to pay for what we purchased to keep the job moving.
As it stands now, the job is not finished and we are in a tough position of finishing a few things that still aren't working properly while he owes us for parts of the project he asked us to hire out above and beyond the other funds he refused to pay earlier. There are so many other details I could add but the point here is, I would warn anyone from hiring this company.

This company is less than mediocre. We gave them our business because it seems this is standard for contractors in Cobb County as dozens no-showed their appointments.
The owner spent his time touting his honesty and character, but as time passed his true character showed through as his habits came to light after he got comfortable. He explained how he had issues with people ""making lies about him online"", something about lies about porn, and other inappropriate things a business owner should not share with customers.
The first issue with his character was he does not do proper estimations for work. He makes guesses then throws numbers out to see if the customer will take it. He never measured anything. He never even looked at anything, just spouted off his mouth random numbers to which he then subtracted work to be performed from the monetary amount. He gave us a quote for a roof repair, sheet rock work, painting, gutter repair, siding, and other tasks then after giving the amount for the job started backtracking on what he would do for that amount.
This continued throughout the project to include never doing any sheet rock work and refusing to adjust the sum of the work cost -even though we were told the cost included it. During his estimate he bragged that his company did not need a deposit for the job but required a small amount to be paid for a ""good faith payment"" for the work to start.
He set this amount himself at $225. Then when he showed up the only time he checked on the project he tried to change this amount to several thousand dollars because ""he had invested a lot of money into materials..."" When I challenged his integrity on this he got observably angry and argumentative but backed down when I told him it reflected poorly on his character to change the terms agreed upon.
The next thing is the owner does not have a real crew and does not manage the projects himself at all. He showed up once to try to sell his subcontractors and me items he acquired from another home owner. His crews are mostly non-English speaking people who if you do not speak Spanish you cannot communicate with them at all. They were also unaware we do speak the language and were shocked when my wife caught them talking trash about us in Spanish and were corrected, which is probably a regular occurance.
The owner tried to convince us to give him a key to our house and our security code so his crew could come and go as they please. This would have been a major error if we agreed as he does not actually have a crew and sent random people he does not have a real relationship with to perform the work.
These crews did a poor job with the work completed. The painting was a single coat in many places which you can see the color they painted over and a lot of places where the paint is a mess. Even better, the painters broke our 75"" tv that costs several thousand dollars and denied they did anything wrong. This was deemed our fault for needing it moved off the wall for painting and cost me another several thousand to replace it myself.
The crew that did the siding left my gutters disconnected from the house and I did not find out until a storm ripped them loose the next day after they finished. They also left trash and paint cans thrown in my yard when they were finished. One of these guys had a truck that leaked oil all over the concrete and asphalt at my home as well just to top off the experience.
We only saw the owner once never heard from him again even though he was supposed to be providing us with an itemized estimate of work performed for our insurance since the work was required due to a storm. He said he would sent it and true to his real character never followed through once again displaying his complete lack of integrity.
He was supposed to provide several documents before he started work and also refused to follow through. According to the crews he sent to our home this experience is ""better than most"" as we were told that most home owners fight with him on nearly every job, throw his signs he demands be placed in the yard away, and other incidents that are not appropriate. Dealing with this business owner is difficult as he thinks he knows it all and will contradict and argue with you if you disagree.
I would never hire him again for work on any project because it is a waste of money since he simply calls someone else to do the work and charges for something you could do yourself. You would save money as he pays the subcontractors very little and the customers pay a lot for his ""guess-timates""....
